    It looks to be the case as of now more than the republic symbol even though the jedi pretty much work in tandem with the republic as enforcers .

    There could have been multiple inspirations.
    The Republic symbol was 8 spokes, which looks nothing like the Jedi or Rebel symbols.

    Yeah that's what I saw attempting to say...but the user who pointed that there is a center and 4 spires on the temple on Coruscant directly relates to how the tree looks...
    from a certain point of view ;)

    I think we have a hint from ESB.

    And the symbolism goes a lot deeper:

    The PREQUEL TRILOGY: we know this trilogy uses the FORCE TREES as symbols for how it starts and it ends.

    The rise of Darth Sidious starts on Naboo with trees being crushed by the Trade Federation machines:

    And the trilogy ends with Yoda going in Exile to "Re-connect" with The Forest...I mean, The Force.

    You bet you are right! Yavin 4's Force Trees, before the great victory by Luke & the Rebels.

    And how it all ends?

    Force trees are used to crush the Empire:

    Force Trees have been there from the start Folks... it's no novelty to the Star Wars universe...

    Nature = good, technology = evil has been a theme of Star Wars since the first screenplay draft ("the Star Wars") had Wookiees on Yavin.

    It is really important what you expose here my friend... and we have to extrapolate that theme in the sequel trilogy.

    That is why, that Force tree thing is not THAT absurd. And maybe on the dark side.... it's the opposite.

    I was about to joke around the fact that the dark side could have been created in a laboratory, out of samples from the Force Tree, like Maple Syrup. But... maybe its roots are in the manipulation of nature, playing God, cloning, technology....

    That theme will stick to the SAGA.

    Snoke is probably alive because of its anti-nature "nature".
    Kylo...well... he is still a mystery... his humanity keeps him a candidate to turn back to the light.... unless something terrible happens in Episode 8 or 9.

    That is why Vader turned... he wasn't totally a machine yet and even if he did the worst possible things... killing children, wife, step-brother and sister....
    He turned back...

    Kylo is a candidate to do the same...
