Force trees in episode 8?

Ooh What do you mean 'Another' homage to Kurasawa's Seven Samurai? I was hoping they would draw a lot on Kurasawa's work, pacing visuals ect before I saw the film. But I think they went more medieval aesthetic than Feudal Japan. I mean I suppose with vader they had already done a space samurai.

But yeah what other things do you think are homages to Kurasawa's films?

 

The big battle in the torrential rain and mud looks straight out of Seven Samaurai. I recall GL saying the Obi Wan/Jango fight in the rain (AOTC) was also inspired by that scene in samurai.

 

Pablo is a big fan of the trees so i think part of the reason why the trees are there is because of Pablo.... I dont think in 7 we have anymore prophecy's but yes the force has to be balance not the light nor the dark can dominate

 

I would say a lot of Poe's extraordinary piloting skills comes from hanging around that Force tree! As for whether it'll appear in 8, maybe!

 

A force tree doesn't sound terrible to me. The tree has played symbolic roles in other stories, why not Star Wars? I think it would be cheesy if it's like a re-charging station for Force batteries, but maybe they are symbolic ties to the original temple or the first race of force users. It would be like the old trees in Israel or California, a reminder of something wilder and much more ancient than the current GFFA.

 

I'm personally still a little disappointed that basically the only thing we know about post-ROTJ Luke is that he rescued a tree, so I hope not.

 

I agree and I fear we won't get anything new from Luke before VIII/IX is out.

 

I think that tree leak is valid which could mean that Snoke is the first dark side user. He looks ancient as hell straight outta crypt. I dont believe he had a master but he is the father of all dark side users. An ancient new original character .

Timbertrooper VS Force Tree

 

Perhaps this was mentioned elsewhere, but does anybody else see a major resemblance between the alleged force tree in the leaked production photos and the rebel insignia?

 

What excites me most about the whole Force Tree theory is that it implies the story will delve a bit into past history. This may (or may not) include
1) the start of the Jedi order (since Ach-to was the first temple)
2) more insight as to how the Force works
3) information on how Rey fits into the bigger picture.

The tree being shaped like the Jedi Order symbol is extremely tantalizing, (even though it may just be nothign more than us wanting to see patterns in a plain old tree stump the same way ufologists see animals and faces on mars rocks...)

A while back there was a rumor that the tree is a portal in the force like the one on Dagobah. Rey enters the tree and sees the origins of the jedi. While these rumors are far from confirmed, they are interesting and I hope Episode VIII includes something to chew on in this regard. The one thing about the leaked Episode VIII sets that I'm shocked noone is talking about is the courtyard or landing platform that seems to have the same architecture as the Coroscant temple, thus implying that there may be Old Republic or prequel era connections in VIII.

 

I've felt for awhile that the tree/cave on Dagobah will have a role to play in the new trilogy (created a thread somewhere!). I think this trilogy has a good few questions it needs to answer relating to the chosen one, balance of the force, how the force imbues environments or objects etc. Using Dagobah could also enable a good way of bringing Yoda back in some way!

My view on Force trees is that, like all life, they create and are penetrated by the Force. And an ancient living tree would retain the energy of the force that has existed within its environment. I guess a force user can then tap into this energy and receive visions or memories from the past.

 

Maybe whole Jedi Temples were made of Force wood.

Whether there is a literal or stylised connection, if this has merit it sounds good to me.

I like Force tree ideas. With what we know about the Living Force it makes sense that there would be concentrations and variations of energy around different beings. I would be happy to see this kind of thing explored further in a suitable story.
