I disagree. Concept art that is released for the "big announcement" should be your best stuff. You should put your best foot forward. What I saw left me underwhelmed. I didn't say it was crap. Just underwhelming. The cover for the Charles Soule book looks like the main character is Dr. Who's Jodi Whitaker! LMAO

I had the exact opposite thoughts. I thought the story and the animation was amateur level bad for The Resistance. Thus I was out after 2 episodes. I might watch it this summer on Disney Plus when there is nothing else to do.

But hey, good people can agree to disagree. :)

In my honest opinion as I watch the series from the begging to the end as they aired, I personally would not recommended watching the series. Without getting into spoilers, this is why. The show doesn't bring anything new to the table in the greater scheme of things. You had TCW compliment the PT by expanding on it, you had Rebels that did the same with OT and Rogue One but the Resistance didn't do anything to compliment or expand the ST or even Episode 9. Sure a few cameos of ST characters popped up along the way and the show gives you an insight on how the First Order operates and how people perceived them but that's about extent of it in the bigger picture. There was one episode in Season 2 that mentioned about the Sith but they never expanded on it or add any new juicy information. That episode is the only episode that makes any mention of the force. This is where my disappointment of the series come in. I was expecting the show to tie in/expand the ST or at least Episode 9 but it didn't. Which isn't a unreasonable expectation since the previous 2 cartoons did with there respective eras.

So to answer your question. If you're looking at the series as it's own self contained series that has no effect on the bigger picture, then the show is great. If you're expecting the show to expand the ST and add things to the bigger picture, then the show is horrible and very disappointing in that aspect.

I give you the story but the animation is just a different style just like Rebels went with a different style than TCW. Cel Shading isn't lower quality of animation (which the show uses) and it works well in the right context. It worked well for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker on the GameCube and it worked well for The Resistance. It's just a different style. I personally hate the animation of TCW. I'm not a fan of the angular shape of their models. Obi-Wan's beard looks wonky to me and so did Count Dooku. But I can see why you don't like it.

I think, for me, it was a combo. I really didn't like the animation style (I thought the characters especially looked bad) and the story. Like you said, it didn't appear, even as early as episode 2, that it was gonna add anything. It seemed geared at kids, which is cool, but I'm not a kid so... Add to that the animation was something I found lacking and boom. There ya go.

I thought the animation for The Clone Wars was actually pretty good. Yeah, there is a bit of stylization to it, like the beards, but all in all I've often found myself impressed with it. To each his own right?

I hope that Project Luminous meets and exceeds my expectations. I really do. I am excited to see what Soule can do in a longer format. So that's a good thing. I still think they should bring back some of my favorite EU writers like Drew Krapyshin and James Luceno, but that's a conversation for a different day. :)

    Eh, I mean...

First, it's easy to make the comparison to things like Shadows of the Empire and The Force Unleashed. Expansive as The High Republic might get, it currently doesn't cover nearly as much ground on a multi-media scale.

Second... I think regardless of how much they might talk about it being in publishing, the reach on that conversation is really gonna only hit some of the more devoted fans. When you have the main Star Wars accounts on social media start cryptically teasing "Project Luminous" reveals, you're reaching a much wider audience, and you're bound to disappoint many people who have no interest in reading the books.

    Like, I'm excited. I am.
But I do feel that the hype surrounding this, in part fed by the "Project Luminous" buzz that LFL intentionally manufactured, just seems kinda incongruous with what we actually are getting. Like, it's a group of books. We didn't have this amount of intrigue and marketing for stuff like the Solo book line, and heck, even the "Road to..." series didn't have the hype campaign this seemed to.

I don't think it's surprising at all that many felt underwhelmed at what they had hoped was a bigger thing. I mean, even I figured it wouldn't touch the films, but I'd had a small amount of hope it might incorporate a game or show, something other than just books and comics.

The books are likely to both test the water and to set the context in the mind of the reader. With books, they are more of a low-risk preposition than suddenly going straight to films or shows. As an avid reader, such intellectual pleasures are almost orgiastic to me. When I hear of a new book, this is me.

It makes so much sense that's the case:
    - Once kenobi, cassian and mandolorian are out and running, clone wars ended and the "rebel sequel" if it does happen comes out, what would they do? Solely continue doing more stories within this timeline ? The sequel trilogy was blamed for not being new by the fanbase so there will be fatigue in this timeline. Disney has spent time developing the High Republic, that's time and money spent for years with no return on investment, with returns being books. They sell and will be bought but mostly by fans and book readers. So I don't see Disney investing with no return over several years just to sell books. It would be a waste in opportunity cost business wise. Onscreen makes more money.

    - They said this was phase one. And ( I couldn't find where I read this) the last book will be out around December right ? This means, in the scenario it's solely books, phase two will be: just more books. Why market it to the public there are phases? That's an internal business strategy. to me that's to explain they will widen up but are taking their time and show they have a long term strategy (vs being blame for not having one for the sequel trilogy).

So in the end to me all points out to being: Phase 1 = set this new timeline to the hardcore fans as they are the biggest critics, Phase 2+ = let's see what the fans liked and let's widen this to the bigger audience as they will enjoy if the film, series, game is well done.

I don't see Disney having a new timeline for books, another one for onscreen (tv/movies) and games doing their own stuff...
I don't work there haha so I might be completely wrong.

There were credible rumors saying that a film would happen.

Slightly off topic but I always wondered why half the crew wore TNG uniforms & the other half wore DS9/Voyager Style uniforms on the same ship?

Slightly back on topic. Everbody 4 short use PL & HR to mean Project Luminous & High Republic! Much easier!

Astute observation and a question I do not a readily have the answers for.

Does it make it easier though? Acronyms may be easier to use when in a particular context but of context they can be misinterpreted. Just look at Bible Discussion and Study Meetings.

Two new characters presented Sskeer -- the Trandoshan darling and Avar Kriss -- the Human and Hero of Hetzal. (Well, I guess Kriss has been mentioned before).

I'm so looking forward to this brand spanking new SW initiative! It should be pretty cool to fill in a period in time just a handfull of generations before the Palpatine enters the galactic stage and kicks off the Skywalker Saga. I love this!

Comment: I wonder if that darksaber looking energy blade is actually the darksaber? And if so, what's the story there? (I'm not up to date here, but the darksaber is supposed to be a unique weapon, right?)

I just wish it was this time period they were basing at least one of their new shows on instead of yet more TCW & OT stuff. As for the energy blade, do we know how old the Darksaber is? Could the Mandalorian Jedi that created it be in the Order during this time? I'm not familiar with the timeline for the Canon version of the "Mandalorian War", but could it be something this time period gets to explore?

    Yes, it is unique

in canon, the darksaber was made in i think 1018, so it would have been made like 800 years before the books take place

Me too. I’m looking forward to this brand new era. The Yoda bit didn’t really impress me because I honestly didn’t see anything different from the prequel yoda (maybe he was a little greener with golden robes but that’s it.) I am curious to see how Yoda factors into the story as a whole, as well as how they develop the new characters. In a best-world-scenario, this era will “feel” vastly different from the others in tone, but more akin to the prequels if you had to make a comparison (only because the PT is chronologically closer to it.) the big question, which I’ve stated here before: how do you make a “peaceful non-war” period interesting, fitting inside a “star wars” story?

People binge watch their favorite shows (Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, Breaking Bad) and immediately jones for more yet have to wait 1 year for the next season. If I tell you season 2 of the Mandolorian will only be available in 2025...what would you say?

As long as its quality and well done am down for 1 movie per month/6 months/year

As for SW fatigue.. heck there's only been 11 movies in 43 years. How tired can it be....

    Cheers, KH
