    I think Rogue One will simmer down by mid-February and we'll get the title before celebration via twitter, just guessing.

    and i'm almost certain that i partook in some of the ridicule. :eek:

    However, this is why i can't see a title being released at SWC. Kudos if they can pull off the release at SWC with no leaking; but the moment a t-shirt or cap pops out of a merch box, it's going to be all over twitter.

    Could you imagine trying to hype up the release of the title on the panel and everyone already knows. :mad:Too much can possibly go wrong.

    You can hide footage easily, you can't hide merch at a convention. Title before SWC and teaser 1 at the panel. Just seems logical.

    Agree 100%. They've waited this long without any stills or footage leaking.

    The first toys are about to start being made overseas. Photos of toys will leak.

    The merchandise for SWC is being produced RIGHT NOW. They know the title, its locked in, and they are going to sell stuff with the title at SWC.

    They'll announce the title in February or early March and get the blast of free publicity.

    It'll leak if they try to wait until SWC.

    Disney doesn't have a movie coming out in January or February.

    They'll announce the title in the next 8 weeks without affecting any other projects

    Do you think they'll show both a teaser and a sizzle reel at SWC? We know Rian Johnson has been putting one together because Daisy Ridley said she has seen some of it.

    the interesting thing about a "sizzle reel" is that it could be comic con or d23 exclusive so they don't have to show more footage till the full trailer. Remember when Simon pegg said the BTS video was really a cast/crew video they showed to celebrate the end of filming? I think most BTS folks were surprised that the BTS video actually came out.

    Prime example. TFA had celebration exclusive t-shirts. If they leave the announcement for the VIII title till SWC, someone is going to leak a pic of the VIII shirt. I can almost guarantee it.

    No offense to you or your post (I think you could be right), but I HATE the "trailer teaser" that studios have started using lately (Spider-Man homecoming & GOTG2 being recent examples of thaf irritating marketing tool.
    TFA released two or three of those a day or two before the MNF trailer, and while someone else probably did it before TFA, it rubbed me wrong then and every other time it's been done.

    Trailers are 60-180 second commercials. Releasing a 10-15 second commercial for a commercial, especially ore that will be shown within 48 hours, is such a cynical and insulting idea that is a new low for the advertising industry (which is quite an achievement).

    Well, now that we agree that we're likely getting something before SWC, just throwing this out there...

    ...what if we get a trailer in front Beauty and the Beast and a sizzle reel at SWC?

    I'd tend to think they'd leave the "red meat" i.e the VIII trailer for the faithful fans trekking to SWC. Trailers aren't really tied to movies anymore anyway. If it was with Beauty and the Beast, then it would probably come out 24 hours before hand on youtube.

    Regarding a "sizzle reel", i think it's more suited to the general public and just to keep VIII in the news. However Beauty and the Beast is a 'spring' release date so all these events are "maybe's" for VIII info.

    I think the people at MSW have called "negatory" on that.

    I should also mention that they have GOTG2, POTC5, and C3 to advertise before the first half of the year ends, and it's likely that one or more of those will be promoted in front their live-action remake than Star Wars. Conversely, it's likely that the trailer for Episode VIII will be attached to one of those three movies that I listed, meaning that putting it in front of Beauty And The Beast would be redundant.

    If I would have to guess, should they take the "sizzle reel" route again, then it will be for something like SDCC or NYCC - small enough to warrant showing it in the place of a trailer, but large enough to get a significant amount of media attention.
