...We still don't know what exactly they'll look like. What they're rumored to look like keeps evolving...

    Anyway:

http://articles.latimes.com/2014/mar/11/entertainment/la-et-st-star-wars-rebels-20140310 (Kennedy has (exec.) produced the U.S. release of Ghibli or Miyazaki films like Ponyo, The Secret World of Arrietty, and From Up On Poppy Hill. Her husband also produces many of their U.S. releases like The Tale of Princess Kaguya)

You're talking about a creation of the guy who did a lot of work on the first season of Avatar: The Last Airbender. It would be more surprising if you didn't get Miyazaki vibes from some of Filoni's story elements.

The birds in the ending scene of TFA do look a bit like Convorees. There are a lot of them, too.
I wonder if they are cgi.

These may just be birds that live on Skellig Michael. This island is, after all, is a protection area for a number of birds' species.

    That is very true.
I am pretty sure that in the commentary for TFA JJ said that those birds were real, that they were literally everywhere. It's a great shot in my opinion!

    Oh, I like this:

    But, ESPECIALLY:

Luke Skywalker is the “emotional entry point” into Episode VIII.

I think RJ saw the birds and was like "let's make them a thing! They're going to be in the SM footage. Let's use them instead of their absence being a problem when we film somewhere else that's supposed to be SM"

It's the inverse of the JJ habit of "hey, let's add something random here"

'Johnson is aiming for an enjoyable experience rather than a darker middle chapter in the new trilogy. “I want it to be a blast and to be funny and to be a ride the way The Force Awakens and the original Star Wars movies were."'

This is interesting, especially since it sort of goes against what he said himself at Celebration about it being different than TFA and what a lot of the actors have been saying about the tone being different.

For all we know it's the last act that's dark and twisted but he may not want us to know that. :)

Actually that's not what it's saying. It says it will spend a part of the movie addressing why Luke was on Ach-To
All he said was it would be a different tone.

I remember him describing TFA as “an incredible explosion of adventure,” and said Ep VIII would be “where you start kind of zooming in on the characters, getting to the heart of them, challenging them, pushing them deeper.” He says the same thing in this new interview about the characters, but was surprised to hear him describe the movie as being similar to TFA this time.

The title was in the first draft of Johnson's script.
