Nah I dont think they would directly change up teh core movies' formulas...I want to be able to hold out the hope that we see the logo, title/crawl, then we pan down to hux's ship with him, ben, and phasma landing at snoke's house, them talking, whatever, and then cutting to the ending of TFA kicking off from there like we were promised..

the most likely reason i imagine is that it opens with present day, then launches into backstory for luke and FO/Kylo story. For which we will need a crawl about the state of the republic remnants and Kylo's training.

Sources? Cause I just checked Hamill's twitter, (along with other hardcore fans like Kristian Harloff's, the Stupendous Wave, and Urban Acolytes) the Star Wars Speculation and Star Wars Leaks subreddits, and I haven't found so much as a glimpse of the pictures. Or even a mention of them being taken down.

 

Looks like confirmation that Luke uses his green saber to me!! Episode VIII: Luke Goes Green.

Yeah, Anakin's lightsaber is Rey's now, no two ways about it. I can see it now:

Luke: "And it flew into your hand?"
Rey: "Yes. But it's yours, right?"
Luke: "... yes. But I have my own now. And I don't really feel like using it."
Rey: "Why?"
Luke *Has a flashback to all the crappy stuff that happened to him when using his old lightsaber* "... no reason."

 

...but they do build there own...although I'm pretty sure they also have some sort of back jp saber stash since we saw "Extra" ones in AOTC on Geonosis.

 

It would be cool if Rey uses the blue one in VII, then builds her own in IX. Then in the next trilogy, the blue one could be passed on to her child to keep it moving through the Skywalker line.

 

I would much rather they change up the intro formula than alter the story to fit the established pattern. If the story calls for only the first few minutes to take place directly after The Force Awakens, and the rest to take place some time later, I would have no problem with them doing the Crawl after that scene.

I don't want the creators to be constrained by what is essential window dressing. I'm really happy that Rian Johnson can start Ep8 the moment Ep7 ends if he feels that exchange is essential to his story. The traditions are great as long as they don't interfere with the creative process.

 

When you write a script for the eighth film in the Star Wars franchise, you have definitely seen all six (or seven, depending on the date) previous iterations and you write it in such a way that both incorporates the traditional elements, like "I have a very bad feeling about this" or the standard Star Wars opening and the new ones. Rian Johnson is a talented guy and he'll manage to make the opening... make sense.

 

I think then it would look almost generic like a generic generic star wars movie .

So if one of the writers for a future installment of the Star Wars Saga has a perfect idea for how to open the movie, but it doesn't involve an opening shot that takes place in space, would you rather have a weaker movie that adheres to that tradition, or a stronger movie that does not?

 

I wouldn't care. However, I don't think opening Episode VIII on Ahch-to with Rey and Luke would be the best idea. There's a reason why all Saga films start with an opening crawl and shot from space. They allow you to get into the world properly before the action kicks in. So far, the only film that doesn't provide us with some kind of introduction to the story was "Rogue One" and it definitely doesn't help the cause of no-crawl Star Wars films, as the cut from "A long time ago.." to the actual film could have been handled much better.
