Would you have liked Rogue One more if you were given 2 extra seconds at the beginning of the movie where the camera pans from an empty star field to Krennic's shuttle? How does that extra couple of seconds help you get into the world? What if it better serves a story for audience to not be settled in at the beginning?

Doing things exactly the same way every single time gets boring. I don't want boring Star Wars movies.

 

Along time ago in a galaxy far far away. We see a shot of Rey* trying to hand Luke Skywalker his light saber. It is a different shot that we saw in the force awakens. He has A reluctant look on his face and does not take the light saber. He turns away to walk off as her face turns a slant disappointment. It's implied that this is going on for days. A seemingly twisted take on how Yoda encountered Luke for the first time. Luke will at first present himself in a very odd fashion. We pan out into space ( opposite to the pan in the opening of the Empire strikes back ) we see a beautiful shot of ach-too and its system. (I'm hoping the space sequences have a feeling of prequel quality. George Lucas didn't Blast that up in the prequel's) Now this may seem wacky but I believe it would be cool if the camera panned over to the side of giant floating yellow text that then came into the center shot. Boom you have a new take on the opening crawl. Plus it will set the pace for what I'm hoping is a more CGI influenced film. #Can'tWaitForEight

It would be awesome if the opening crawl lifts up and we have a bottom to top of the screen classic Star Wars fade to a scene of wherever Kylo is.

I think the unfortunate thing is we're bound to know the answer before the movie comes out. Would be great to not know how the movie starts before we see it but because of all the curiosity it's bound to leak out, ala Rogue One not having a crawl being the focus of entire news articles leading up to it's release.

 

Exactly. I think EPVIII will open with the First Order, probably a scene of Kylo Ren on the Finalizer.

 

They won't give us what we want right away which is Luke and Rey. That's why they left it a cliff hanger. What happens next now Luke is found? It is what will drive everyone to see VIII.

So I'd say it starts with a few other things then to Luke and Rey then maybe jumps to a few months later or something after Kylo shows up if the rumors are true that is.

 

IMO that's the most they would mess with the formula.

 

They let that out intentionally to prepare people for the opening being something other than what we're accustomed to.

 

This is not official, but I just saw an article online form the Latin Review that Ep. 8 release day could be possibly pushed to 2018 !?!?! due to a labour dispute with the lighting technicians who haven't had an increase in four year. Please say it ain't so. Haven't heard any confirmation from anyone else.

 

Thanks. I thought it was odd thinking that they have all year and principal photography has been done apart from possible reshoots. How would that affect release dates? Just noticed it was up just today. But thanks for the quick reply. Didn't make sense.

 

That was reported back last Jan/Feb right before VIII was supposed to start filming and there was a concern that it might delay the start of filming. It turned out not to cause much of a problem.

 

I think it'll open with Luke. I suggested this in another thread:

With so much emphasis placed on finding Luke in TFA, I think it would be perfect for Ep8 to begin in this way as it rams home the main focus of this middle film: Luke and Rey's journey.

If Rian Johnson really wanted to provide a big tease, the opening could lead up to that TFA cliffhanger moment and then cut to the First Order or whoever just to hold that suspense.

possibly, but i doubt it.

i'm no film maker, but if your gonna resolve the cliffhanger from VII then i'd do that first.

if i was going to do it.. i would still have a space opening shot after the crawl. I would show the falcon approaching Ahch-To, and i would show Rey walking up the steps to find Luke. It would not however be the same as VII.. i would have asked for additional shots of these elements from a different perspective. So a third person shot of the falcon approaching the planet (nothing from the cockpit), and then perhaps a distant helicopter shot of Rey going up the steps. I would use the same awsome JW music that was used at the end of VII.

basically it would be a different perspective recap of Rey getting to Luke.

that's how i'd do it anyway.
