That's what I was about to say. I think they should have the title out BEFORE celebration, as to give fans something to refer to when speaking about or asking questions rather than "Episode 8". This way they could at least get some merchandise ready.

 

Maybe like a week before celebration...?

 

Hmm... Maybe that's connected somehow to the scene they shot on the boat.

 

I share that feeling. In a way it is just as significant of an event as us seeing a trailer. It is the the reveal of what we are going to call the film forever, that is huge! I remember when TFA name dropped, people were reacting to it with the same excitement that people do with a great trailer. Fan speculation went through the roof trying to figure out what the title tells about the plot, I expect no less from us fans when the title for VIII finally is revealed.

 

If they announce the title before SWC, it'll happen in March at the latest.

They will space out all E8 news for maximum effect.

Studios don't waste big news like the title and trailer by releasing them a week apart.

 

Somewhere around the 20th is the start of spring.

 

I cannot believe they have waited this long to reveal the title.

I have to think they reveal it between now and SWC just because it'll get so much attention on its own.

They have to release a trailer at SWC so waiting to reveal the trailer and title together isn't very smart or savvy


LFL has always been very savvy and shrewd with its marketing.

Revealing the title in February costs them nothing but will result in millions worth of free publicity. That's why I think we get the title by March 1.

 

I still think we're going to have to wait until SWC for a title as well as a trailer. I just imagine they want Rogue One to keep all of the spotlight until it hits home video.

Also, just throwing this out there...maybe it still doesn't have a firm title?? I remember that being more or less Pablo's response when asked why they didn't announce a title at Celebration London last year, unless he was just being funny...

 

I've been thinking about this too but I just feel like, until that presentation at SWC this April, they really don't need to market the film to the general public. The only need they would have to market the title would be for the presentation at SWC itself, and since that's an event for only the hardcore fans they don't need to have a title ready. Call it the Ep VIII panel, we know what they're talking about. It's also safe to assume they're going to unveil the first trailer at SWC so I imagine that will effectively be the start of the marketing campaign for the general public once it hits youtube. Announcing the title alongside the trailer will surely have a pretty huge impact that will ripple beyond just us die hard fans.

Also, The Force Awakens title announcement came when they announced that principal photography had finished. I can't imagine what kind of milestone they could use to make that announcement this time between now and SWC.

This is starting to remind me of all the speculating we did for when the final TFA trailer was going to hit...

 

The only thing that makes me think a title will come earlier than SWC is that they can't hide it once it's at the convention centre printed on some piece of promo gear. If they did wait till SWC, someone working for a contractor or even security is going to snap a picture days before hand. The title will be on everything promotional at SWC. Do they really want to risk it coming out like that?

If they think they can hide till a celebration panel, good luck.

I wonder if they have to first figure what to do with Leah's character before they show us any VIII information.

It's a show with Mark Hamill. I don't know where or when the episodes are released though.
