The TFA teaser was released nov 28 2015...will we get Episode VIII teaser this year?!?

 

No, not before R1 hit the theaters. I think we will get a teaser at SWC in April 2017.

April? That seems quite late, for the next Episode. Latest guess I've heard, for sure. Not impossible, but I would have to admit to being surprised if they did wait quite that long.

Am I the only person who still thinks we're going to get some sort of major Ep8 news this December? I still speak to people on the regular who don't understand why they haven't seen Rey in the trailers for Rogue One, and I can't help but feel like making some big Ep8 news (whether its a teaser or even just a title announcement) would be the easiest way to explain to audiences that Rogue One is not a sequel to TFA.

 

I think it's more likely that we could get a surprise teaser of a teaser with R1 .

 

I actually have a friend that works in marketing (low level asst) at Disney. The rumor going around with absolutely no factual evidence to back it up, is that there will be an EP VIII (no title) teaser attached to R1, or at least that's what's being discussed.
Apparently, 2 reasons for this, one to clear up confusion for the casual fan about what a stand alone movie is, and 2, actually create more hype in sales and revenue for Rogue One when word gets out that a teaser for VIII is playing.

No word if it will be exclusive to theaters only or anything else.

It makes sense to me. Now is that what will happen? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

 

putting a trailer exclusively in theaters means you lose the explosion from launching it on social media. increasingly these days the size of that explosion is getting bigger and bigger.

20 yrs ago the only way of showing people a clip of a new film was either television or the big screen.. times have changed and i don't expect a first teaser until theater attendance drops for Rogue One. Who would go to the theater to watch Rogue One just because there was gonna be an ep8 trailer showing?? us lol, and we'll be going multiple times anyway!

probably way off here, but i'll have a punt:-

December: R1
February: ep 8 Teaser & Title
April 1st: R1 Blu-ray/DVD release
April 13th: (SWC Orlando) ep 8 Trailer 1
October/November: ep Trailer 2
December 15th: yeah baby!

 

See that's the problem isn't it? and this is my speculation, If they were to launch an EP VIII teaser online when R1 comes out, it would kill the R1 buzz on launch day. They couldn't possibly do that. I wouldn't. I would do a theater exclusive, and let them whine about it not being online yet. 2 weeks after word of mouth, critics, magazine articles etc come out on R1, I would release the VIII teaser online. No more than 30 secs.

Then again, who the **** am I to plan this speculative narrative, lol.

i'd love to jump in and say "nah not in a million years will they do that", but they did it recently.

they showed an exclusive R1 trailer at celebration and left the online world hanging. I watched phone footage of the trailer the same day and the same would happen with an ep8 teaser. I don't live in disney's world.. but do they really want people watching the first ep8 footage from a crappy cell phone recording made in the theater? worse than that even.. do they want us watching that footage on a site that they haven't branded up especially?

'reach' has become one of the most important phrases in online marketing these days. I can't believe they would do anything other than a global online release of ep 8 information/footage. what they did at celebration was lovely for the fans that were there... but utter bananas in every other respect.

 

Having the teaser trailer for VIII attached to R1 makes too much sense, IMHO. Regardless of whatever marketing strategy Disney has planned/is planning, in my eyes it's doing right by the fans to showcase it there. It continues the tradition of the whole "annual Christmas SW release" by making R1 feel even more so like an event. The idea that a trailer for VIII would be distraction to R1 just seems weird to me. I just think; with filming for VIII long since done, when it was originally slated for a May release, & that we got a teaser over a year out for TFA; it's the perfect time. Again, my opinion is purely from a fans perspective; it's what I would like to see happen.

 

I made a fan trailer, released it 4 days before the 1st Force Awakens trailer was released. It had 4 million hits in 36hrs. Went totally viral around the world. Disney did nothing to stop it, I even used their logos, Bad Robots, Lucasfilm..all they publicly said in a tweet about mine is that fans will like their's too.

The point is that I really don't think they care. It creates hype. Release a crappy phone footage teaser online, take it down within an hour, create even more hype. I suspect that is why they left mine up. I had people discussing Star Wars even before they released theirs. Hype.

Some of these rumors came out before VII saying that they would be in TFA. Especially Luke destroying a star destroyer.

The fan theory movieguide describes about Luke actually came from MSW

 

Another very slim possibility for an earlier teaser would be if they expect Rogue One to be a disappointment critically, they might move to show a teaser in January to steady the ship. But having a trailer this year makes no sense from a money making perspective. I don't think the artists beat the bean counters on this one. I see only downside to that play.
