SPECULATION Star Wars Episode VIII Teaser

Hey Pete, guilty as charged bud. Truth be told, and I speak for myself, even if we had 100,000 signatures, it would not change one iota of how I believe they have this planned out.

They know millions are waiting.

Man, now I think I speak for everyone, or at least most, when I say WE WISH that there would be an episode VIII teaser in December.

I admire the optimism, but that thread could get 15,000 +1 and it won't make a difference. There are millions of Star Wars fans who want to see a trailer. This isn't news and Lucasfilm/Disney aren't going to alter their marketing plans based on some grass roots effort.

Even so i'm sure it would only be hardcore fans who would go see the movie for the trailer, and the hardcore fans would go to see the movie anyway. So in my opinion it wouldnt work in terms of drawing more people to the theater.

 

Ask Meet Joe Black what a SW trailer can do for a film.

It's a different time, but GOTG & THhor 3 had comic con presentations which haven't leaked in anywhere near HD format, the former at all as far as I've seen.

Disney has the resources to keep a trailer "theater-only" if they want.


Again, I think if RO is trending toward a super soft opening weekend, they'll put the teaser trailer as a stinger (like Avengers trailer with Captain America), and deploy their interns or whoever to keep sites from posting bootleg videos, both to boost attendance.

YouTube and official sites are the way most people get trailers. If LFL controls those and most of the major film blogs are too intimidated to show bootlegs, they will have fans coming back for argued viewing just to see the trailer.

Part of this is people wanting to see NEW SW after getting TFA and a prequel that features a Death Star (for the fourth time).

Correct. A lot has changed since then and people know that if they add the teaser to the film it will eventually leak somewhere or they'll just wait for it on YouTube.

I didn't sign because I don't believe Disney will change their agenda for an online petition.

I'm pretty sure it would get in the way of R1. It would also possibly cause Star Wars fatigue. I bet they keep things quiet for a few months after Rogue One knowing that episode VIII doesn't really need much early hype to make a killing at the box office December '17.

 

I agree.. The Ep VIII teaser will be released at SWC Orlando if you ask me..

 

a teaser would give me such peace of mind u would see me watching R1 with buddha mode.

 

I actually lean the other way, and have for awhile. I think they show it with Rouge One.

60 secs, no dialogue, just images and the title over music. One year out.

Fits the traditional teaser time-frame.

Plus, with how quick they've rolled out the R1 trailers, everybody will know about that film already and not be confused. The next 2 months are going to be flooded with R1 stuff.

They will use that moment to get a little hype going for VIII, IMO.

Then release it online a week later.

 

Couldnt agree more.TFA teaser was released nov 28 2014 13 months prior to the movie. Why the heck should they wait till april/may now? They will use R1/VIII Teaser to keep up the hype. Teaser will be out 2016!

 

Might I suggest you look at this as if you are a Disney executive providing direction to Lucasfilm? You know that you're going to make a ton of money. There is zero possibility that there will be negative buzz on episode VIII UNLESS you show fans something to be critical of. There's zero upside to showing us an early teaser. There's only downside if it sucks in fan's eyes. That's why I would bet against any trailer this year.
