SPECULATION Star Wars Episode VIII Teaser

That's a very real possibility. If not specifically then.....probably sometime this summer. Can't wait!

 

We wont see a teaser until Rouge One is out.

 

Doubtful. Rogue One comes out just five months prior. It's doubtful the first teaser will be released then.

I'm wondering if there's going to be a tie-in between Rogue One and the Death Star to Starkiller progression, i.e. what the big, bad plan is.

Rogue One teaser at Celebration/SDCC in July, unless it comes around the Blu-Ray release.
The release of TFA's first teaser was an unusually long time in advance, but for something people had been waiting 30 years for, it was justified.
4-6 months ahead of release is pretty normal for first teasers/trailers, even for Disney/Marvel films.

 

You'll probably need to take a look at the marvel movies and how they spread out their trailers, for an idea on what they're going to do.

6 months is the usual for Marvel.
6 months before VIII puts us at about November/October.

Nothing before Rogue One. I guess they have their rythm now. Expect it for next year.

 

Disney has put themselves in an interesting position with Star Wars and marvel continuously rolling out something new and promoting something new.

Black Panther comes out in February 2017. I think the Rogue One Blu Ray will come in April or May 2017.

I think they will release the teaser for EVIII before April. They did that announcement video for first day of principal photography. I think we get a teaser a couple of weeks before or after black panther opens. Yes that would mean Feb 1, six weeks after RO, but Christmas and New Years do a lot to clear out people's brains what with all the family time, church, presents, drinking and such. In America you have NBA Xmas games, the College football bowl games and NHL winter classic on New Year's Day then the NFL playoffs in January.

That helps clear the decks before Black Panther.


RO isn't expected to be the box office behemoth TFA was.

since EVIII is the big gamble in the trilogy (everything wont pay off, will be darkest chapter, wont have the automatic good reviews like EVII--the nostalgia film the critics wanted to like that had Ford's return &departure--- will likely be most complex chapter in new trilogy, and WILL BE AN ORIGINAL STORY UNLIKE TFA), they will need to feed the beast until the summer conventions when we'll see a full trailer.

JJ isn't in charge this time. We've already seen that RO has treated its first trailer as tool to show relevant scenes.

I'm confident EVIII will too.

I think we see a trailer a lot sooner than May 2017.

I'm calling my shot now. The announcement for the name of Episode VIII and a 60 sec teaser will air at Super Bowl 51.

 

Disney is in an odd marketing position for VIII. We have Rogue One coming out in December, but production for VIII is in full throttle, and is set to be finished far before TFA or RO finished filming in their respective years. It seems that the Star Wars routine will go like this:

Summer - Filming for new Star Wars Episode starts
November - Marketing for Star Wars Spinoff
December - Star Wars spinoff released
April - Blu-Ray marketing for the spinoff / trailer for next Episode
Summer - Filming for next spinoff starts
November - Marketing for Star Wars Episode
December - Release of Star Wars Episode
April - Blu-Ray marketing for Episode / trailer for next spinoff
Summer - Filming for new Star Wars Episode starts

...and so on and so forth. This cycle will continue for who knows how long.

Since Episode VIII was supposed to be released in May 2017, they aren't filming it in the summer like they usually would. They're going to be finished filming at the beginning of the summer, whereas TFA finished filming in the middle of the Fall. This is much earlier than usual. This means they could easily have a trailer as early as July this year. But they almost certainly won't release one. So, I'm not sure what they're going to do. I'm hopeful that they'll release SOMETHING small during the summer, right before Rogue One marketing goes full throttle. If I were to be realistic, then I'd say they'll hold off on anything VIII related until Rogue One is out on Blu-Ray, which is this time next year.

 

Hell, by that time Jason Ward would have leaked the whole damn movie!

 

I think that there will be a BYS video with some interviews but a trailer...maybe in December.

To me, we are going to see a little teaser, like the first TFA teaser, directly attached to Rogue One this december. It could be a possibility.

During the SW celebration, we are maybe going to have the full title and some official confirmation. Maybe a bunch of images from the sets, but nothing more, I think.

 

You're not factoring in the Marvel movies release ad marketing, as well as their Bluray releases and marketing.

Trust me, Lucasfilm is factoring all that in.

RO and TFA waited until after principal photography. I don't think TFA revealed the name until after the movie ceased filming.


I don't think E VIII will be done filming until July at the earliest.

 

I think it is a good chance. The first teaser for TFA was out just a year before it was released, right after Thanksgiving 2014. I'm not sure if they would do that now since RO would be coming out in less than a month. I think it would take away from RO's hype. I'm think it would have to come before the RO publicity starts in full force or after.... or maybe attached to RO itself. Would bring more in to see it.
