    I think he's been done for quite a while. His beard at the Guardians premiere looked great and very befitting the character, whatever role's playing. When the beard started getting longer and longer, I said to myself "Well, hang on now. If he's been shooting since the summer, then he's already shot scenes and this crazy thing doesn't match up." I think he just grew it out a little past finishing filming to screw with us.
    And I don't buy the rumors that it's all to cover up his cyborg. That would interfere more than it would assist. JJ has to have learned his lesson from people complaining about Khan.

    For limited reshoots they'd probably just glue a fake beard on and try to avoid extreme closeups. if they know they lost something big and need to reshoot it, they'd probably ask him to grow it back.

    That sounds like a nightmare for the people in charge of costume/ wardrobe continuity. That's having a lot of faith in your backup and for a gigantic film like this...doubt they would do that. Everything has to be perfect.

    Its common for a movie of this size. Sometimes its handled better than others. For a poor example look no further than the scene with Obi-Wan in TPM when Jar Jar comes out of the water from Gungan city towards the end. Guy is 20 pounds heavier and looks about 5 years older.

    But for anything but a close up, a wig-beard should hold up fine. They've come far with that stuff.

    I just refuse to believe that Hamill will have a beard during the whole movie. He is not that old as Ben Kenobi for example. I bet that there will be a scene (with the appropriate music) where we will see Luke on the screen in all his glory (shaved), where he saves the day. They just can't miss on that opportunity. I'm still not buying the Evil Luke rumors.

    Captive Luke or Luke in hiding might let himself go a bit. Yoda looked a bit shabby when Luke finally found him. Maybe they filmed a scene that required he shave his beard.
