If it is a good story, I don't really care what Rey's bloodline is. Of course I do favor some theories over others. I think people can tend to interpret TFA in different ways and a lot of times it is influenced by their personal preferences of what they want to see. The similarities between Luke and Rey is one of them. Those who find it very important that Rey is Luke's daughter will point to the similarities as evidence that Rey is Luke's daughter. Others see those similarities as a device to show the audience that Rey is our new heroine in the mold of Luke. Personally Inthinknthat was JJ and Kasdan's intention. However it did also serve to leave the opportunity of Rey being Luke's daughter if the storytellers decide to go in that direction

Initially, I DEFINITELY wanted Rey to be a Skywalker, and it was entirely too easy to believe it because as I reflected back to the old EU there was more than one grandchild of Anakin, and THEN we saw George ask JJ after TFA; "What of Anakin's grandCHILDREN"...it was too easy to believe that Rey was Luke's, because...she HAD to be. Now of course, I'm not so sure, especially as NOBODY has even attempted to divert that line of thinking....honestly, it's all too much to try to decipher, so we just have to wait.

I'm personally a Mara Jade fan (I know, I know) and it's probably mere nostalgia that keeps me hooked on the "Rey Skywalker" theory, and after snapping out of my little bloodline fantasy at the end of the day, I'm only logically made aware that we'll likely never see any type of "Mara story" related to Rey...because she's probably not Luke's daughter.

NOW, with that being said, you'll also keep in mind that the "Kylo story" we've already seen....Anakin turning into Vader, and I REALLY CANNOT believe that LFL/Disney are just going to rehash that scenario...they're smarter than that. Some will agree that the entire third trilogy (or what's been seen so far) is a rehash of the OT, but I think it's only too familiar because of the similar arc, and not necessarily the story.

Like the OT, there's BOUND to be an "I'm your Father" type of moment that's going to surprise the fanbase, and hobnestly it could be a "Rey, meet your father Luke.....Luke, this is your daughter Rey!" type of revelation where NEITHER one of them knew it...it could happen.

Yes, want Rey to be a Skywalker, but will be fine without it....saddened, but fine. :)

I hope it doesn't give us to many new ones without answering old ones from the TFA... else EPIX will be defined by the questions that need to be answered.

Batman is a single title character of stories that center around him so it isn't a direct a direct comparison to an ensemble cast story about a single family. So while close the are not direct comparisons.

Sorry just accusing me of lying about my point is ridiculous and hollow. Frankly your more intelligent than that.

You have 000000 argument related to story. Your only argument is that for marketing reasons they need the Skywalker name. That's jaded and foolish.

Luke Skywalker isn't dead and may be around for more movies.
Ben is alive and will be around for more movies possibly many more.

The fact that a large number of people have utterly rejected your argument by pointing out that Ben is all the Skywalker they need proves that by in large your Skywalker is NECESSARY argument is failing.

Further as myself and others (are we all liars or just me) have offered rather simple ways that the Skywalker family continues even if the name doesn't apply to one of the characters.

The majority are happy if the story is good. I'd be happy for her to be a Solo if the story is good. My point is that I can't see how the story can be good now if she is a Solo. It will make a farce of TFA and the story opportunities available in her being a Solo are now diminished/have been missed.

They already did for TFA, Rey was stated as a jedi while no official picture was showing it.

Absolutely must be. Otherwise, it recontinues what we've learned about the force, and the exclusivity of the Skywalker family and their connection to the force. Because it doesn't matter what is in Rey, or Ben..cannonly, Anakin had THE greatest connection to the force of anyone in Star Wars. Prodegy. Luke, and Ben as well. Making Rey a Skywalker IS logical just because no one has that innate strength like the Skywalkers BECAUSE Anakin was born from the force.

Having her be a random, with OP strength, despite having established lure in universe about the force (and how midichlorians are cannon now) that equals or surpasses that of the bloodline born from the force itself..for the sake of modern day sociology in the form of narrative is a HUGE mistake and in my opinion, shows disrespect to what Lucas has created. These films are about that family.

Rey is a Skywalker. There is legitimately no other logical-consistent in universe explanation for why she has this connection to the force. Anything else is a narrative recontinuation of established canon that I would not be able to take seriously. Same would go for Ben if he wasn't a Skywalker. Fortunately, he is.

Unless the Force has intervened again but in a different way? Or if Palpatine/Snoke had a hand in her origins (like Plagueis/Palpatine might've with Anakin)? Or if she was experimented upon or had an accident (Jakku Force well or the research facility there spring to mind)?

Only a Rey Relator deals in absolutes!

That' an option for sure! I said it doesn't work if she is just naturally a random.

My personal belief is that she is related and what the connection between her and Ben is, is the power of Anakin. Snoke is trying to use THAT power to spread the dark side of the force through the galaxy. And that we will see multiple force ghosts of characters from 1-6 in this movie.

And somehow, Luke is responsible for the arrival of Snoke.

Think about it. Over the last year, Hayden Christensen has said Star Wars is still part of his life, he was seen at a site or studio where the movie was being filmed, and there was concept art of him for TFA.

I said it before, this series is going to bring the PT and OT forward.

That by itself makes a whole heap of sense.
It's just the Rey Solo story asks serious questions of TFA. And Rey Skywalker looks less likely by the day.

I'd also say though that Snoke is using the light and dark within Ben - and Rey would seem superfluous to that in relation to the Anakin link. (But I dig the idea of HC returning!)

    Paraphrasing.

GL has stated numerous time that the Saga is....

    A. About a family, the Skywalkers.

    B. Anakin "would" of become the most powerful Force user of all time. Now his son is.

Now GL has changed his mind many times. Like 6 movies vs 9 vs 12. But has remained constant on theses 2 issues since TESB.

Rey & Kylo are OP. Thier doing feets that Luke & Ani never did.

One is blood related, but for Rey? You can talk about adoption & Force choosing all u want. That's fine. But Rey not having Skywalker DNA goes against the core of the Saga.

Now will GL approve of Rey Sky/Solo? Probably. Rey new chosen? Probaly not.

I hope GL gets interviewed soon.

Not that important, the only important thing is that we'll have at least one person from the Skywalker line who'll survive and have their own offspring.

Although Rey isn't a very compelling nor interesting character IMHO, I'll wait and see and make my final judgement after Episode IX. It seems they have something "special" in mind for her.

The potential problem of having Rey a Skywalker is that it will become more and more difficult to tell fresh stories if the saga movies always have to have a Skywalker. Disney/Lucasfilm plan on making SW movies for a long time. If we start getting stale Skywalker stories, it will do more harm to GL legacy and what he created then if they stop making films about Skywalkers. Creating something new will go live them more flexibility in stories going forward. It will allow to build in the legacy GL created. Making Rey a random can lead to this.

Well, it can go both ways. If they want to make her seem like a "dangerous being who can't be controlled", they at least should have hinted to this in TFA. In TFA, she seemed to be able to control her powers very, very well. Now, it seems as if Rey is turning into a completely different character.

The problem with overpowered characters is that the power itself becomes the main focus instead of the character.

Or they could of given Poe Not A Skywalker & Finn Not A Skywalker bigger screen time.
