SPECULATION How important is it to you, that Rey is a Skywalker/Solo?

Or he could take the Skywalker name in honor of his former Master Luke, and finish what Luke started.

 

if Filoni was writing I'd say this is likely, but he isn't so I'm goign to assume they won't take short cuts and avoid doing things they might want to in order to tell a good story.

 

I am curious to where Colin will take both Kylo and Rey's stories in IX. Now there's rumors Rey is heading back to Jakku.

 

I mean, I think Filoni is more interested in playing with his "favourite toys" then telling a good story. We'll never get actual closure on Ahsoka because Filoni will never end her story because he'll force her into every project he ever handle's for Lucasfilm. Instead of dealing with the actual betrayal of the Clone's like Rex turning on Obi-wan, Filoni's personal favourite's are the ones who pulled the magically chips out and stayed good and pure. Darth Maul coming back because he liked him etc....

I think having Kylo or Rey "just take the name out of respect" would be similar to that. Its a "having your cake and eating too" cop-out. Having Rey be Lukes daughter introduces some.........issues in Lukes past. Having Ben be Lukes son introduces some drama on his past. They aren't neat and clean etc...

 

It will depend on what they planned since VII. Rian and J.J are on the same track, so if Colin is too, we'll know soon enough.

Rey just taking on the Skywalker name doesn't do it 4 me. Anakin is not the legacy of Obi-Wan even though Anakin loved Obi-Wan as a "father".

She better have Skywalker DNA in her veins because the only other way we'll see a Skywalker by 10 is . Ren/Ben will surely croak.

For the next 4 films she can be referenced as the student of Skywalker. "The student of Skywalker must never be allowed to escape."

She will be compared to the Skywalkers, "Her skills are impressive but she's no Skywalker."

"You have taken Skywalker's place but you are nothing and never measure up. Join me and I will teach the unbridled truth of the Force."

Also while we could argue as folks have countless times she would be adopted. Not likely but it it isn't that they will go to space court and she gets a new name its that Ben in his choices have proved that he is not who the Force intended to be the one to move the Skywalker legacy forward.

The other simplier option is after Luke is gone because just a reminder he is a Skywalker, but after he goes the theme will be can whoever is the heir apparent can they measure up. But Rey has no last name so at some point she can take one or be given one or give one to a baby she might have.

 

So "the sidekick of Batman" would mean a Robin lead movie is a Batman movie?

 

I think it could be like Anakin and Obi-Wan with Ben and Rey. Ben is the Skywalker and she's like Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan was just as important, and even more important in my opinion in the PT than Anakin.

 

After Superman died there was an entire year of Superman comics dedicated to 5 different characters who attempted to take his place.

Batman is a title role so it isn't a direct comparison. Comparing apples to pears.

I understand your devotion that the saga is about the Skywalkers but 1) Luke is still a Skywalker and he might be around for awhile. There is no reason that he might not be around for 6 more films. Sure he's this trilogy's Obi-Wan but he might be next trilogy's wizened master Yoda. 2) You are putting the marketing of a Skywalker as more significant than the story they might tell about the Skywalkers. I think that is a fairly jaded look at the film makers and the fans. If Rey is recieved as Luke's pupil and takes up the task then she will be to connected to the story.

The story trumps marketing. If the story works fans will accept it. If everyone loves the story and we find out that Luke blazes out in glory leaving Rey Whoever to pick up the pieces people will understand and the saga will have a new icon.

I dont want her to be a Reywalker or a Solo because I would find her and Kylo's interactions very...very disturbing if they were related. Writters/creators made them that way, very unfamilial, on purpose. I dont know what that purpose may be. Doesnt have to be romantic reylo at all but rather force yin yang thing.
If they made their interactions that way knowing that kylo and rey are related then i would think luke and leia was not a slip but sw is a weretched hive of scum and villainy and i would stay away from it personally.

 

We already know it was confirmed he was crushing on her, so yeah, it would be weird, and not Luke/Leia weird since it was planned.

I think if most of the GA had gotten the impression that there was deliberate sexual tension there they wouldn't have left the theater thinking the two were related.

I also think that if JJ had meant to indicate that Rey and Kylo would become romantically involved, neither he nor PH would have used the word "torture" to describe that scene/Kylo's actions.

Uhhmmm You all probably know my stance on rey's origins. However I am open minded. It is altogether possible she is Leia's daughter abandoned to be spared from Snoke. Possibly, meybe, perhapse, who knows. We'll see.
