SPECULATION How important is it to you, that Rey is a Skywalker/Solo?

I think Rey is intended as "out of nowhere."

I even think her name is a twist on Sunrider. There was a Nomi Sunrider in the old EU. She fought Exar Kun. "Rey" is less on the nose than Sunrider as the new "Skywalker" type.

 

Nomi Sunrider married a great Jedi. I don't think dat will happen to Rey.

 

Won't bother me if Rey isn't from an established Star Wars name. Honestly her story arc continues on with or without that lineage. I think disconnecting her family from the established family allows them to start a new storyline. Still I cannot shake the heavy and intentional allusion to the light saber of Anakin and Luke calling out to Rey. Like if you intend to create her lineage a part from the Skywalkers, why the allusion? It's unnecessary

 

Yeah I didn't suggest that they would follow Nomi's story beat for beat. I just can't help but notice elements of Nomi and Rey and Exar Kun in Kylo Ren. One reason they got rid of the EU is the 30 years of stories to borrow from.

 

Star Wars movie franchise has had 3 arcs (PT, OT, ST).
i'll even give you 4 if you want to include R1.
and 3 reveals.
doesn't matter if it's 40 years or 100.
that's serious redundancy.

 

i'm not disappointed now, so i see no need to be disappointed with TLJ either.
rehash doesn't bother me. i'm just saying it's not required, necessary, or a "given".

I'd love Rey Skywalker or Rey Solo, but I also think having a great new SW character is just fine.

For starters, thank you for referencing Nomi Sunrider. As an avid fan of tales of the Jedi, it pleases me that someone actually made that reference. Exar Kun was awesome, too. Rey, if I was to be honest, I want her to be her own character. While i know a lot of people are married to the idea that she should be a Skywalker, Kenobi or even Palpatine(would be badass if that was the case), a part of me wants her to be someone new.

Bottlenecking the universe is something I am against. The six films are about the Skywalkers which is great. I'm not knocking them. But really, one of the reasons why I loved the EU was that there were characters like Nomi Sunrider, Erin Lennir, and Bastila Shan. Who weren't Skywalkers, but were just as compelling. That isn't to say I would totally hate the movie if they went that route. I may have a bitter taste in my mouth from TFA, but I am willing to give Rian Johnson the benefit of the doubt to explain it.

But really, the important thing shouldn't be who Rey is related to. Rather, it is who is Rey at the start of this movie, what is her journey going to be about, and in my humble opinion the most important part, who is she by the end. A character arc, in a nutshell.

 

I voted for no just because I'm team Reylo. It would be so cool if Rey was able to show Kylo that the power he seeks can be pursued in her new "gray Jedi" path, while still being a good person and trying to do the right thing.

 

I'd vomit if we get Reylo! Also from what we got in the Teaser nothing hints of it yet.

I'd leave the franchise faster then Biggs did if we get it!

 

There's a lot that's not hinted at in the trailer. All I'm asking is give love a chance!

 

I really can't understand Reylo. It's like Hera falling in love with Thrawn. I'm sorry it's just incomprehensible 2 me.
