SPECULATION How important is it to you, that Rey is a Skywalker/Solo?

I could go either way on that.
As long as they don't do anything ridiculous with and be like "Viola Davis is the new Leia!"

If they had Billie Lourd step in and do a few scenes as more of a tribute or something, that'd be fine with me. But yeah, as of now, hard pass on a recast

I'm a fan of the EU, and loved the Jacen/Jaina characters. For me to have Rey be Ben's sister and Han and Leia's daughter would be a great nod to the EU. I feel like the scenes between Rey and Ben would have so much more depth to them if it turned out they were brother and sister, rather than just two complete strangers. If Han and Leia were Reys parents it would also give her character a lot more depth.

I have heard rumours, as I'm sure we all have, that Rey could turn to the Dark Side. I had thought that the determining factor for this could be because of Hans death and her not getting chance to know him as a Father before he was killed.

Even before TFA was released and we only had snippets of information about Rey, I was convinced she was a Solo and until I hear it for myself I always will believe she's a Solo.

 

I never read those stories but that is exactly what I thought. Its possible in a remote sense but I don't think likely.

Zero importance. Whatever plot 'twists' will pale to the one in ESB.

 

Why must it compare at all if there even is one?

 

I don't mind either way, I personally used to believe she was a Skywalker, but at this point in time, the evidence is pointing to her not being related to anyone in the franchise.

 

If the Episode/Saga films are going to continue past Episdoe IX, and there isn't some twist where Ben is really Lukes son that Leia and Han were going to raise instead on Luke for some reason....she has to be a Skywalker to carry the Skywalker Saga forward.

 

What's important is involving and connecting your main character to the other major characters in extremely important ways and family connections are the best way to achieve that and tie the screen and backstory together. I'd be saying the same thing in another dimension where the Star Wars is about Saoirse Ronan's character feuding with Benedict Cumberbatch's character as siblings with roles for their parents in the story as well. So, yes, Rey being directly connected to the villain and their backstory is very important and Skywalker/Solo is the means by which that is accomplished while keeping the narrative simplified enough that a child can understand it.

 

It's not important. We have a Skywalker for this trilogy already. TLJ is about family, but not just family bonded by blood. Making her a Skywalker or Solo would take away the purpose of her character.

 

Yes, Luke is still a major character in the ST. Thats why I said - "If the Episode/Saga films are going to continue past Episdoe IX"

Making her part of the skywalker family doesn't take anything away from the story or characters - she still would not be connected to Finn, Poe, Chewie, Rose etc...

 

Luke was the Skywalker of the OT. Kylo Ren is the Skywalker of the ST. Rey is kind of holding them together in the middle.

 

Except Kylo is a Solo - still part of the family, wrong last name to carry on the Skywalker Saga.

No she isn't. She is the young, untrained potential that Luke and Anakin were.

 

Names don't change what is in Kylo's blood.

 

No but you don't tell the SKYWALKER SAGA with a main character named SOLO.

DC wouldn't make a sequel to Batman starring Robin and still call it Batman cause he is connected to Batman.

 

It doesn't change that he's a Skywalker, and if fans have a problem with a name, that's their problem, not mine.

 

But he doesn't have the right name for the product. As I said - you wouldn't make Batman with Robin as the star would you?

IF they plan to continue the Episode past IX (what they've called the Skywalker saga) we need either 1) Rey to be Lukes daughter 2) Ben is Lukes son who was raised by his sister or 3) Another child we haven't seen yet. I'd say 1 is most likely, 2 is possible by less likely (would be that twist everyone wants, and Luke naming his son Ben makes more sense the Leia and Han doing it). 3 I don't see happening.
