SPECULATION How important is it to you, that Rey is a Skywalker/Solo?

I think we don't need to worry about future movies always having to have a Skywalker.

In my mind, the episodic movies will always be about the Skywalker family - this is what they've always been about. But Disney has a 100 year plan for Star Wars - I think it's safe to say that the episodic format is going to be just one of many formats in 20-30 years time.

We already got a taste of what's to come with the "Anthology" films. My guess is that later we'll probably get formats like "Chapters" dealing with ancient Jedi vs Sith stories, "Volumes" dealing with Galactic conquests, and so on.... "Episodes" will just be one out of many.

 

Spoiler: A hint to Reys origins?

I play "Force Arena" on my mobile every now and then. Today I tried my luck with the light side and with Rey as the main protagonist for the first time. I wonder why the "Rey-Card" has the same "special force ability" in this game as the Obi Wan card (that accompanies Luke in this game): Both, Rey and Obi1 are able to force the enemies beneath them to change their loyalty (FO/Imperial troops join Rey ans Ob1).
Do they simply have same abilities or are they - maybe - relatives?
We will see, soon enough..

 

Probably just a nod to the fact they notably used mind tricks. Mind trick is one of Rey's talents in Battlefront II.

 

John Boyega in one of TLJ junket interviews said that it's time to let go with Rey Kenobi theories (I believe it's this one):

 

Q: (12:00) One thing I found interesting...that's a lot of fan theories online about who Rey's parents are and I think it's interesting to look at the accents that some of the actors have in these films...
John Boyega: “[...] But I don’t think that those two worlds [of our accents] mesh into the narrative [of Star Wars] because to act means to be somebody else not yourself so…I think the fans should move on from that [Rey Kenobi accent based theory] one. Guys, trust me, I’ve got your back (both fingers crossed). Move on from that one.” (December 2, 2017)

 

For this trilogy I want nothing more than Luke to have offspring. I want to see that Skywalker name and lineage carry on and I would REALLY love it to be Rey. However, if it doesn't happen I will adapt and deal with it without much complaining.

For instance, it is easier for me to accept that Rey might not be a Skywalker than it is for me to accept that Boba Fett was one of the most lethal men in the galaxy in his time after seeing him completely buffoon it up in RotJ.

 

I like how the Rey Kenobiers keep forgetting how Luke used the mind trick also.

 

Don't get me wrong, I am no Kenobier, Skywalkier or Soloier. I am just as excited as everyone else, trying to bridge this last ENDLESS days till I am finally sitting in the theatre
..but thanks anyway; you are right about Luke doing mind tricks (it was just a reference to force arena)

 

The unexpected thing to do would be to make her Sith spawn....

It’s not important, but you can’t set it up in TFA and then have her as Random Rey in TLJ as it made no sense. Luke/Anakin Lightsaber calls out to her in TFA, Luke’s music plays when she force grabs the saber, yet she is Random Rey in TLJ? JJ and RJ should have been on the same page on this one as you either don’t have a mystery box or if you do, you have to give an answer that makes sense.
