I don't think Daisy Ridley will care whether she is Luke's daughter, student or lover.
What has being nice and beautiful got to do with her being Luke's daughter?
Surely, the best outcome for someone who wants to portray an independent, strong-willed, female hero is for her to not "be about" where she comes from but who she decided to be herself? If you make her a Skywalker that all becomes muddied.

As long as it fits the story and provides an intriguing narrative as opposed to an unnecessary big "twist" then I'll be happy.

However, that picture of Daisy - f0cd18cd70cb3b3ae2b94f22e3670dad.gif

You're free to think whatever you want, my friend. I'm just saying there isn't a rational argument for Rey "deserving to be Luke's daughter" because it will be nice and/or cool. But like you say, "we all have our head canon" - but that is all it is. Our own desires for where the saga should go.

However, in a rational debate, this kind of thought has little relevance. And if we are to determine what is important to us, I think it better to start from a rational position.

I suppose rational really doesn't matter now, the script producers have put there eggs in a basket now. That train has left the station. We'll find out soon enough who will be happier.

I do know however, I LOVED TFA, so I have great faith they will deliver.

I've mentioned a few times, I would actually rather she was Leia's. As much as it's the least backed on this forum. If not then Luke's.

    SKYWALKER for life! All day

Apologies for going slightly off topic...

@The Hud - you can actually 'enjoy' that Daisy in person! The pic is of the waxwork of Rey and BB8 which are in the Star Wars section of Madame Tussaud's in London... in fact here's my daughter sat in front of it last summer

Great pic. Thank you for this, I'll take my daughter there too - she's 11 months old but she needs to go...and...learn... :|

I went to the exhibition when it opened so they must have added extra waxworks, cool!

Back on topic (sorry mods) I'm torn between having an incredible backstory for her being Luke's daughter (though I have no idea how they'd pull it off) and having her born of other FS parents - potentially dark side.

Either that or LFL pulls a screwball and literally has her as the daughter of a pair of "nobodies" and she's a revelation

    Hurry along December...

I was wondering who would be the first to notice it wasn't real picture of Daisy, haha. My wife took that pic in Madam tussauds.

I noticed it but it wasn't really relevant to the poll.

I'm of two minds about this; on one, nostalgia is a powerful tool. I grew up with the Expanded Universe, where Luke had a child, and there was a Skywalker named Ben. And now, as a father myself, introducing my daughter to Star Wars, there's a fitting beauty to Rey being the daughter of Luke Skywalker, an icon of my own childhood. I want Rey to be Luke's daughter, I just may not need it.

And that's why, as long as the developments support the story and the logic behind it, I will accept any story decision. At this point, there's a very different Star Wars that's in my head than the one presented in film. Which is only natural for a 40 year old franchise with a passionate fanbase.

Personally, I'd love is she wasn't a Skywalker, but that option in the poll had "ReyLo" attached for some reason and I really don't care for that.

I hope she turns out to be a Skywalker or Solo, TFA made her past too ambiguous when it comes to parents identity. Does she know who they are but the audience doesn't? If her parents are some "Random" new characters that have yet to be introduced into the Star Wars Canon, then why make the past so mysterious. She could've had the last name as soon as we meet her - Ray "Randomstar". She would be the outside person swept up into the Skywalker saga. I feel like I waste mental energy on her as to Who is she related too? (so on and so on.) Just her discovering her force powers and how she will help the Skywalker Twins right the wrong that was caused by Darth Vader and Kylo Ren makes her compelling on her own. I don't like that J.J. and Lawrence K. had to give her mysterious parental issues. If she does not turn out to be a Skywalker or they do not address her parents identity by the end of The Last Jedi. I would be disappointed - not because she doen't turn out to be a Skywalker relative, but the lead the audience to an unnecessary mystery.

Actually, it's funny that Rey's own identity through her parentage is mandatory.

I'm not sure my parentage really tells a lot about who I truly am. The education I received from my parents could have orientated me but Rey didn't get educate by anyone.

Legacy and destiny are often pretty tied in fiction, though. Not to say that they couldn't subvert the trope (as in, Rey become important despite her humble origins) but we needn't pretend that it's not a common thing for characters to be a bit defined by their parentage.

Harry Potter, Aragorn, Jon Snow... I could go on, it's a pretty common thing in fiction.

i didn't use to care, but now i very solidly don't think she should be a Skywalker for all the reasons people have already more eloquently stated.
i do think it's unfortunate that once again we have a poll that will be skewed into irrelevance because of the needlessly included bias of the unrelated topic of Reylo.

    feh.

I have noticed that most of the Die hard ReySky fans are people who have a big problem with the character of Kylo Ren.

At the beginning I had this strong preference about her origins... which maybe deeply still lingers on, but not really as it used to. So basically I'm in the "
I don't mind either way, as long as the story is good" camp.

    Basically this is me:

One of my fav Disney movies growing up, I watched it every year. I hope Rey finds her family like they did, it was sweet and magical. Haven't watched it recently, either way I'll be happy for her.
