This is my copy/pasted comment from another thread, but it so applies here:

I know a handful of people here who viscerally HATED TFA, but were capable expressing their disappointment in the movie and then continuing to participate on the boards without making it difficult for others to enjoy it. They didn't change their opinion about the movie either (nor should they). It's hard to react positively to criticism if there is thread about apples and everyone is talking about apples and then someone comes and screams "BUT THEM ORANGES! AM I RIGHT? AM I RIGHT?" Why? What is your goal?

Our posts typically address misinformation, lies, untruths and ignorance. When people make comments that are not based in fact as presented by the films, then we have called people out on it. When many in the haters thread seem to base their opinion on erroneous information or flat out not understanding what is presented in front of their eyes, we've pointed that out. Holding people accountable to their statements is the hallmark to a healthy debate.

I realized the other day that I don't like TLJ as a film, I like it as a historic retelling of the events taking place in the galaxy we all love so much. I sat in the theater not going "what the hell" or "he shouldn't be doing THAT", but instead "Okay, I know this happens" and "So he does this and it leads to that". I'm not interested in film quality itself. I'm in it for lore and story on a world I'm immersed in.

In the conversations we've had, your posts have consisted of trying to convince me that I'm wrong for thinking we need an explanation for Rey's power, Snoke's backstory, etc. I use examples throughout the Star Wars timeline to back up why I think these issues should be addressed. That is not "misinformation, lies, untruths, and ignorance."

My point was that the phenomenon of people going into threads that are created for people who either like or disliked the film to convince them their opinion is wrong, is not limited to those who didn't like the movie.

    Awesome attitude!

So glad you've found a way to enjoy it!

The mythology/lore is one of the best parts about Star Wars, and TLJ has a lot to offer in that regard!

Then these new films shouldn't be given Episode numbers that follow the PT and OT in the same space and time continuum. As retold stories, they should be given the new JJ Star Trek treatment, create two alternative universes. RO can stay in the Georgeiverse, TFA and TLJ can be the first two stories in the Disneyverse.

I'll stick with my Georgeiverse films and its rich wealth of Extended Universe novels, thankyou very much.

When I say misinformation, an example would be when people say “we’ve never seen anyone use the force like Rey with no training”. Yet there are countless examples. When I say ignorance, it’s when people say things like “KK and Lucasfilm purposely made Finn a racial stereotype”. Stuff like that. I have no issues with differing opinions. That is expected in everything we do. What is wrong with presenting an argument to help someone not HATE a film? Are the haters just here to hate or is there a point to the conversation?

There's nothing wrong with it. Just like there's nothing wrong with someone who disliked the film trying to help someone who liked it understand why they didn't like it.

You have learned from the fake news media well. Demean the people you disagree with by labeling them so that their opinion doesn't need to be debated or hold merit because they are as you said a tiny, ugly, and very vocal group. You have spent weeks defending a movie you like, and attacking the people that dislike it with 100s of posts. Generally people don't get this obsessed with a desire to convince other people of their opinion about a movie. My guess is the themes presented in the move are dear to you.

I've seen the film three times over the course of five weeks. The thearter was packed each time. The crowd responded to all the obvious parts. The loudest ovation at the end was the last time I saw it in January (which shocked me). What does this mean? Absolutely nothing. I'm not sure what this story has to do with this thread.
And here it is... it's not simply enough that a person dislikes the film. That's fine. Nope, there's some elaborate political conspiracy that's attempting to hoodwink people into believing most people like the movie. Do people realize how insane this sounds? I mean, it's really, really crazy.

Last night I saw The Shape of Water. The movie has gotten really great reviews. I love the director's other work. I really hated the film. It's well made, but I just didn't like it. That's it. If someone asks me about it I'll tell them what I think, but I haven't gone to RT to vote it 1. I don't believe the critics have been paid off or that there's a conspiracy to get people to like the film.

If you all were truly going to ignore people. This thread would never have been created. It was created to demean a group of people, not ignore them.

Also, for what it's worth. This has been a great thread at indetifiying new people to ignore. I'm not seeing a lot of the posts. :)

If this common sense thread bothers you, it's very possible that you're part of the unhinged minority the article was targeting.

The very fact that you're making this thread shows that there's more than just a tiny amount of people creating backlash against the movie... Sure there are those ridiculous men's rights activist being stupid, but there's also A LOT of people who genuinely just did not like the film.

I might not have "hated" it, but if KK or RJ asked for my opinion, I'd be extremely critical of the story telling aspects with substantiative reasoning.

Also you titled this thread "Ignoring the Star Wars Haters." I find that title ignorant. You can hate TLJ and also love SW.

It's been over a month since the release of The Last Jedi. People have made up their minds and will either like or dislike this film based on their own experiences with Star Wars and life in general. Everyone brings a different "Point of View."

For those that didn't like it: I can't help wish you did. But please look at the bright side, the movies you love are not getting erased. They will live on. There are many more movies to come thanks to Disney and LFL. There is HOPE for all of us.

For those that like or loved the film: Let's move our conversations to Episode IX threads. Not much else can be said about TLJ. We like it. We get it. We want to see what happens next. We have 2 years of excruciating waiting. Now is the time to do like we always do, theorize, analyze and discuss until the film comes out.

    Just my two cents.
