    Mental xD

But, like, I'll never understand how anyone could possibly like Dubstep, Cricket/Baseball or the Assasins Creed games as a few small examples so I understand how tastes vary. But I've seen it twice now and it's been brilliant both times.

I'm at a loss to explain the negative reactions amoungst some fans, this is the film we all wanted right? Like the OT but with more engaging characters and updated action sequences.

Han is nearly as good in this as he was in ESB, Kylo Ren is the most interesting and fun to watch villian in the entire saga. While Rey isn't as iconic as Luke, she is much more funny, charismatic, engaging and 3 dimensional than him. The Han/Kylo bridge scene is on par with any scene in the series. This one has by a long way the best opening 30 minutes and it's climax is on par with ROTJ/ESB and slightly better than ROTS etc etc

How in the hell are you lot finding so many faults in this? It is what it is and it's frelling fantastic!

I gotcha, thought you were one that was bashing the movie to death lol, but yeah it has a lot of call backs to the originals but I honestly didn't feel they were forced (no pun intended). But I assume it will if the reports of them already shooting on Skellig from a few moths ago that it will pick up right where the film left off.

    Let's be honest:

    - The pacing was bad (15 seconds...CUT...15 seconds...CUT). The camera only lingered and let us take in the sights a handful of times.
    - The score was very mediocre. JW is in his 80's and it shows.

    But, that said
TFA is an awesome Star Wars movie.
Vastly superior to the prequels. Only the most completely delusional Lucas-lover could think otherwise.
For example, it was weird to see a new Star Wars movie with good dialogue and good acting!
Judging by some of the comments about Boyega on this forum, I'd been worried going in; I was very pleasantly surprised. I actually thought he stole the show. And Daisy was pitch perfect, as was Oscar. Driver's Kylo Ren is a huge success.
Finally, an awesome Star Wars villain worthy of stepping into Vader's shadow!

The lightsaber battles were truly fantastic.
None of the "dance battle" crap from TPM, and nothing as ludicrous as dancing Yoda from AOTC.
When Finn uses the lightsaber for the first time against the stormtrooper, I had chills.
And the final lightsaber fight between Kylo and Rey...wow...stunning achievement. As perfect as it gets.

Rey, Finn, and Poe....the best Star Wars heroes since Luke, Leia, and Han. Despite the issues with the pacing and score, the movie was perfectly cast.

Excellent movie all around, but definitely not perfect.

    Phew, thanks for saying that.
I wanted to post the exact same sentence word-for-word, but I thought I'd get a lot of crap for it. From a neutral point of view, I actually agree 100%. Kylo Ren is arguably the most fun villain in all of Star Wars.
His character was a major, major success.

    Rey was great.

Finn was underdeveloped. Him killing other Stormtroopers but being disturbed by the death of the Stormtrooper from the village in the begining doesn't make since.

    Kylo Ren was cool.

    Phasma was weak.

Han was dumb. Trusted Rey and Finn too fast. Had his old friend Maz destroyed. Walked to his own death but already knew his son was super bad. So many bad decisions Han made.

Luke is hiding for what?!!! He just sits there and watched a whole star system be destroyed? Really?

    Snoke bad.

    Maz bad.

    Leia cool.

No it's not only about getting confirmation, but the last TV spots gave me concerns. (transformers-esque)
And why is the comparison considered a stretch if people feel this way?

In general: "movies never live up to the hype it's impossible nowadays, the expectations are to high especially for a new Star Wars movie"

I really felt the tone of the trailers was better than the tone of the movie

    Agreed.

    I loved the second trailer.

    That thing kicked ass.

If only the movie had been like that.

Movie trailers are always misleading the better the trailer the worse the movie and vice versa.

I mean, Rick Moranis is awesome, and that industrial strength hair dryer bit gets me everytime, but there is NOTHING in TFA as annoying and grating as Barf, Joan Rivers, and Yoghurt. Sure TFA has some choppiness and world-building failures due to some overzealous editing (along with an underwhelming uber villain (Snoke), a totally disappointing "cool" villain (Phasma), some dumb CGI creatures, a highly dubious 3rd act control room decision matrix staged like a football huddle, etc) but on the whole it was competently made, the lead hero (Rey) was legitimately captivating, the lead villain (Kylo) was an endearing weirdo, and the group rapport was great. This is not something you can say about any of the prequels, or Space Balls for that matter (except for the endearing weirdo villain).

    *scratches head*

I am all for people having differing opinions about the movie at that is fine. (Because I know that they will still go see Episode VIII). But, I am sorry... I cannot agree about any character development.

Rey, Finn, and Kylo had some of the best Development in any recent Star Wars film. I actually cared about what was going on with them. I wanted Finn to be a hero. I wanted Kylo to not kill his father on that bridge. I fell in love with Rey with her excitement of being on an adventure, and felt her journey during the movie. I cheered her on when she grabbed the lightsaber and went after kylo in the forest (and beat him no less).

I cared way more about those 3, than I did any of the prequels. I love what G.L. did, but I don't think he would of done anything better.
