It makes sense if the imbalance is caused not by the mere existence of Sith but the actions of powerful dark side figures/groups.

Essentially the Jedi could feel the balance was starting to slip in TPM - Qui Gon realised this more than anyone. But they didn't know why - until it was revealed that the Sith were around. The Jedi then correctly assumed that the Sith were causing imbalance and that the prophecy could in fact be coming true.

All the prophecy really stated was that there would be a long period of imbalance/dark times and that a chosen one would be born who would bring balance. The whole bit about the Sith wasn't part of the prophecy but rather what the Jedi perceived after the Sith reemerged.

Balance exists when light and dark are equal. When the Sith or dark sider takes over, they empower dark over light and spread evil everywhere. Their power makes them very successful at doing this and the only people that can stop them are the Jedi. And so when Anakin final destroys the Sith, balance isn't restored because of some notion that people that call themselves "Sith" are destroyed. It's restored because the specific people who are driving the oppression across the galaxy are defeated.

Now I don't know whether the balance was instantly restored or if it took a bit of time once Sidious died. But what happened was that hope retirnee to the galaxy and the oppression ended. This didn't mean evil was obliterated but that it was once again equal to good.

My suspicion is that Snoke, whomever he is, relied upon the Sith to keep the dark side strong so he could live off of it. When Anakin brought balance, the dark side was diminished somewhat and so was Snoke's power. He then was forced to come out into the open to find a way to strengthen the dark side again.

I suppose it could be Ben, it could also be Palaptine, heck even a Kenobi or Rey herself but as another name as a child. However I will burst out laughing if its one right under our noses. Someone who has raw power, untrained and related to Vader. Leia.......The mother of Ben Solo. That would be a hilarious reveal. In strange way it kind of fits. :p

I believe he is talking about Kylo. Mark Hamill said that Luke made the mistake of believing that Kylo was the Chosen One, much like Qui-Gon who saw Anakin's abilities and power which made him believe he was the Chosen One.

But if Luke thought Kylo was the Chosen One, that means Vader didn't bring balance to the Force, which Luke realises and that's why he want's the Jedi to end, that and the fact that his academy was destroyed and his students slaughtered, which would place doubts in his mind about the Light.

But in order for Luke to have believed that Kylo was the Chosen One, I believe Kylo must have shown "raw power". He wouldn't have feared Kylo's power because he believed he was the Chosen One and that his teaching could keep him on track.

But when he see's Rey's "raw power" in TLJ, he might fear to train her after what happened to Kylo and his academy.

When Hamill said that, he wasn't saying Luke thought Ben was the prophesised chosen one, but rather he meant it in the more general terms, as in: Ben Solo was bloody powerful and Luke's star student. Now, it could be that Luke thinks Ben is another chosen one for whatever purpose but this bares no relation to the prophecy that did come to pass when Anakin destroyed the Sith.

But yeah, Luke was most certainly talking about Ben. Nothing else makes sense.

    From Japanese Star Wars site:

"Humiliated by his defeat at Rey’s hands, Kylo Ren redoubles his efforts to crush the Resistance. However, although his powers in the Dark Side continue to increase, it is still not enough to impress his shadowy mentor – First Order Supreme Leader Snoke."

Doesn't sound like the raw strength Luke is talking about.
    And:
"Jedi Master Luke Skywalker: After his attempt to rebuild the Jedi Order was ruined, Luke Skywalker disappeared from the Galaxy in search of answers, leading him to the planet Ahch-To. Though he seems intent to live out a modest lifestyle away from the war, the Resistance needs the hero who defeated Darth Vader to stand a chance against the First Order."

I think the reveal is going to be Vader isn't as gone as we think, and Luke is going to have to struggle with fighting on in face of that failure.

"Now reach out, what do you see?" "Light, Darkness, a Balance" "It's so much bigger..."
I believe that The Force remains out of balance because Anakin failed to replace the Father personification and become the one to balance the Force (Mortis Arc, The Clone Wars). The Skywalkers were conceived and brought about by the Force to bring balance (The Phantom Menace). I believe that Luke felt that Ben would be the one to fulfill the role that Anakin was meant to achieve (http://screenrant.com/star-wars-8-last-jedi-luke-kylo-ren-chosen-one/), but Snoke (who I believe may be the personification of the Dark Side of the Force) began influencing Ben in the womb (Aftermath Trilogy) so that he would not fulfill that role, thereby keeping the Dark side stonger and imbalanced. (Snoke may want to destroy the Skywalkers altogether to keep the Force permanently imbalanced). I believe Snoke is speaking to Rey in the trailer, because Rey is the personification of the Light side of the Force, and is 'awakening' (The Force Awakens) to who she may be ("and beyond that, something truly special...","something inside me has always been there, but now it's awake") Luke has found on Ahch-To the Journal Of The Whills, which talks about the origin of the Force, and the origin and beliefs of the early Jedi. Luke wants to end the Jedi Order because his understanding of the Force has changed, and he understands that the current Jedi view of the Force, though well-meaning, to be incomplete. Qui-Gonn understood this to some degree, because he was more focused and aware of the living Force. Luke wants to end the Jedi because their understanding of the Force is incomplete, as was the Sith, and any other group who side completely with one side or the other. This is why Luke's academy was destroyed, because the cycle repeats without balance.

I personally felt passionate Snoke's desire to control one that has this Raw strenght.

And it seems he is talking about Kylo.

However his word, "and beyond that"....I sough Rey.

Luke also talks of 2 that has this raw strenght.

I know it is unpopular to claim Rey Solo has been confirmed but I am sure Snoke wanted to control both children of Leia.

He got his grip on the older one,Ben, but the second one, something special, a girl, he has somehow lost as she was hidden there on Jakku.

When he get his grip on her finally, he tells her..."fulfill your destiny"(to be mine).

Evidence points to the contrary though:

    - The Force only began to go out of balance as the Sith took over.
    - Lucas and all other official sources confirm that Anakin did bring balance when he destroyed Sidious.
    - We don't know for certain if the Force created Anakin or the Sith did. The prophecy is separate to the will of the Force.
    - Star Wars is a fairy tale that provides a moral lesson for 12 yr olds. That message simply cannot be that it is right to embrace good and evil. It is that one knows evil exists but that you should resist it. This is exactly what the Jedi did and it is why they are heroes. Balance means accepting that good and evil co-exist but in order to keep the balance the Jedi must destroy those who seek to empower the dark over the light. They can only do this by using the light because the Dark Side leads to suffering.
    - We don't actually know if Luke wants the Jedi to really end or indeed if he does, why he does. We may have heard half a sentence.

Yeah, it's all just speculation and theory at this point. I am very happy and anxious to see what the movie reveals come December.

To be fair, the Jedi were aware of the prophecy before they were even aware that the Sith had reemerged.

Also, whether Anakin's conception was a direct act of the Force, or the Sith influenced the midichlorians and used the Force to create life, as Palpatine said, it was still an act of the Force. Theoretically, the Sith couldn't have done anything without manipulating the Force

They were aware of the prophecy and they had begun to feel the balance was slipping. But the point is that it was the emergence of the Sith that caused the balance to slip. Before that everything was "ok". But when the Sith emerged and then took over, as we see in the opening scroll of RotS: evil is everywhere. If it was a case that the Jedi were always in the wrong, then the Force would've always been out of balance.

The point I was making was that it isn't necessarily the case that the Force created Anakin to bring balance. It might just be that the Sith did it (yes by using the Force) or that the "Force struck back" at Sith meddling. This then means that Anakin wasn't born to bring balance but was merely prophesised to do so. I actually prefer the idea of Sith creation as it removes the complex questions surrounding the idea of Force creation/intervention, such as: why not create 1000 chosen ones? Why not just give the Sith cancer? Sith meddling makes sense to me. But the important point is to look at the prophecy as separate from his conception.

Even though I think that Luke was referring to Ben, I voted Kenobi because it was funny...

How is this even a question? Im mean the entire trailer is about Kylo and Rey. Though I lm not voting because I don't necessarily think it means they are siblings.
