    https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsLe...e_shouldnt_expect_an_extended_edition_of_tfa/

If you ask me, J.J. Abrams is being extremely selfish by holding all of this back and not giving us a more content filled episode 7.. instead we have to live with his ADD edited version which skims over the plot, holds back information on the state of the galaxy and gives us less time with these wonderful characters.

Content MISSING from The Force Awakens:
More dialogue and character development with Rey and Finn, dialogue between Leia and Maz Kanata (including that iconic shot of Leia holding Anakin's lightsaber) Kylo Ren sitting in the cockpit of the Millenium Falcon.. MUCH MORE content regarding the battle of Takodana and more shots in practically every scene which could help the pacing to be more relaxed.

Other scenes missing include information on Leia and the senate, the peace treaty between The First Order and The Republic, what the resistance is and so on..

This is so much more than what could be an extended cut.. J.J. (or Disney) have obviously cut important story elements to focus mostly on action.

Not good enough in my opinion.

wow, a director wants to chose wich scenes to put in the final version of a movie, what a bad and selfish thing! xD
seriously, I just want the theatrical version, they can put the missing scenes in the dvd/blu-rey as a bonus, I hate special-extended-super edition where they say "look, we just added 10 senconds that completely change the movie!!" just to take some easy money.
The final movie is as we saw it in theaters and I'm ok with it, there is a reason why some scenes get cut from the final version, and the director knows it 100 times better then everyone of us, it's not that directors are there accidentally, they usually know what they're doing
don't star with the "true fans" argument, bucause that's a dumb argument, noone has or should have a definition for a star wars fan (or a fan of every other thing)

its JJ 's career. if he wants to look back on his SW film the way it is, so be it. but his title as Hollywood's Greatest Mimic will be his legacy. He rips off other filmmakers as he just doesnt have the needed creativety. Go read Birth.Movies.Death.com's (previously known as Badass Digest) most recent SW article. it calls out JJ as a mimic and explains why TFA is borderline Fan Fiction.

Maybe we fanboys brought this upon ourselves.

Remember all the whining about how the prequels were too bogged down with politics? I'm not too surprised to see J. J. go the direction the fans demanded and leave the political angle out of the movie.

Not saying I agree with the decision; just saying it was the decision the fans wanted.

We should be careful what we ask for.

I'd totally be up for a better paced version of this film. The beginning especially is choppy as Blast. The middle is fine but the ending is a little rushed again with the R2 waking up, showing them the map and then boom, we're off. The novel's pacing was so much better.

Regarding Birth.Movies.Death's article, there's an element of truth to it but at the same time Devin Faraci's always had a hard on for Abrams, so there's really no way to take his opinion seriously. He reminds me of the blogger Rainn Wilson played in Entourage.

I never had a problem with the politics, it could have been more snappy but thats it.. It was the quickest way of telling us about the galaxy outside the title crawl.

    @Lord Skywalker why the dislike?

As far as I am concerned, a director has every right to do with his movie as he/she sees fit. Also, while I have nothing against "Director's cuts" and the such, I do think that is a bit disrespectful towards the audience to say "Hey, whether you liked the theatrical version or not, that wasn't the COMPLETE version, so you should now pay more money to see it".

For me, TFA works perfectly fine as it is. Sure, if they ever release an extended version, I would probably buy it, but I wouldn't be enthusiastic about it (pretty much like I've never been enthusiastic about the "Special Editions").

There were 30 years between episode 6 and 7.. and this film barely touches on the state of the galaxy. It leaves it up to the novels because a) J.J. wants to have the most action packed movie in the saga and b) Disney wants more money.

OP seems to remember me for some thing I said. If OP felt condescended to in a previous thread, that wasn't my intention. I may be abrupt or skip straight to the point with people, but never intentionally condescending.

The movie has problems, but nobody other than perhaps Disney or Lucasfilm has any right to demand another cut of the movie; least of all some random forum user. It's extremely childish to feel entitled in this regard.

Why do people have to make things so black and white?

"Oh but you complained about politics in the prequels"

Like... I didn't. And I didn't even have a problem with most of the special edition changes.

Are many Star Wars fans capable of compartmentalising properly?

Ironically enough, the filmmakers and studio are the only people entitled to label something an 'original cut'. So there's no way you can claim what you've seen isn't the 'original cut'.

Yes I'm upset if this is true I WANT that extended edition. Every director should be forced to release there original cuts of movies.

isn't the "director's cut" the cut of the director? So in this case JJ's cut? xD

why? if there is a scene that doesn't work they shouldn't put it in any version of the movie

Edit: the first answer is a joke don't take it too seriously :p

People should still have the OPTION of watching it on DVD with the theatrical version.

Disney probably told J.J. to keep it under a certain time limit so they could squeeze more showings in and break the box office record. Therefore it isn't 100% a director's cut. More like 50/50.

But after hearing J.J. say he doesn't like extended cuts and won't do one for Star Wars? That just shows that the extended/more intelligent cut is more likely to come from Disney.

Fans will make an extended edition of Episode 7 with the deleted scenes of the Blu-ray.
