The politics wouldn't involve an actual senate scene, just the set-up for one that never happens due to a planetsplosion.

I would have liked to hear Leia give a rousing speech in the movie, though.

It looks like a lot of the scenes missing are things that may have been removes for a good reason. Take Kylo Ren's notification to Rey, the "it is you" dialog. I think by removing that it leaves the mystery whether they grew up together. There was a lot of good moves.

That's probably why the flashback scene was cut down significantly. I wouldn't be surprised if they re-used footage from that scene for a similar sequence in Episode VIII.

I only learned about this scene a few hours ago, that really could have been something special. Screw the people who didn't like Carrie's performance, she surprised and entertained me the most out of all the returning characters.

Adding unnecessary scenes that don't directly drive the plot, over-saturates the story. This is what TV shows do that intend on running for multiple seasons...ever heard of "filler episodes"? Where there might be 2-3 minutes of an hour-long episode that actually drive the story, and the rest answers questions that nobody asked about or even cared for in the first place? If he were to release unnecessary scenes in an extended version...it is all people would watch. It would disrupt the "flow" of the movie. I remember with GL added the unfinished Jabba scene to ANH...it's a painful to watch and really disrupts the flow that had been built up to that point.

Filler episodes = designed to be very cheap to make, contain very little new or original material and usually lightweight on actual story or contain montages of scenes from past episodes. Purely designed for advertisers to buy slots in commercial breaks which earn the show and network some money from advertisers. ;)

Is it me or did some of us confuse the terms "first cut" and "original cut" and use them interchangeably with "theatrical cut" and "director's cut?"

JJ has only ever referred to that initial cut as his "first cut." He never said or implied it was meant to be the cut he wanted to be the theatrical cut. The released theatrical cut is by definition the "original cut" of the film.

I feel that eventually we will get a "director's cut" extended edition, but I also think we will have to wait for it until the entire ST has played out and been released on Bluray. Unlike a lot of other franchises and situations, it might reveal a bit more than wanted to put together a real "director's cut" and release it before VIII and IX come out.

Definitely, it took me no time to go "This is Leia" and to me she felt just like the Leia I knew from the originals. The direction of Han Solo's character between ep 6 and 7 was less convincing for me. All the criticism is mainly aimed at her appearance and nothing else.. people get old, big deal!

Some said "she could have lost more weight" but then she would have been taking her own real life personality out of the character. People build their personality around how they look.. so her being unusually skinny would have felt too forced.

Deleted scenes are sometimes pieces that can change a movie a LOT.Remember my friends that this is a NEW trilogy. There are planning to do 2 more and they must link them together the best way possible. For me SWTFA was REALLY GOOD.I had enjoy it a lot.Every time i watch i like it more.Let the producers make their job.We will know if the final product was good or not.Happy NEW YEAR 2016 to ALL...:).
