Rian I have some confidence in.. Trevorrow? ABSOLUTELY NOT! He's the wack version of J.J. but luckily he won't be writing episode 9. It'll be a similar deal as Richard Marquand on Return of the Jedi so that'll be okay. Just as long as he doesn't light every scene like an Apple store like Jurassic World..

I think you might have misread what I said...I said that I believe in Rian more than JJ AND Treverrow, as in I do not believe in Treverrow, and think that he will turn it into something worse than the ending of DOTJ .

Okay I haven't seen that yet.. but JURASSIC WORLD STINKS!

Seriously though i'll give Safety Not Guaranteed a chance. I won't throw Colin under the bus.. but as of this moment his record is 50% at best. I'd rather have Guillermo Del Toro directing episode 9, or even Gore Verbinski or Francis Lawrence.

Show that you can direct, show that you can be bullied by studios.. do something kinky for the producers and then you're the new Spielberg

Lol there are actual "s*x parties" that happen with certain big directors and all and young up and comers...I was invited by. Friend who was invited but I stopped talking to him right when he mentioned it lol . Either you spend a lot of money, know people, or you will never get anywhere unless you're a 1-in-a-BILLION hotshot. In my case, I've spent a ton of money pumping it into my own company. I can't speak for Treverrow, but he seems to have simply been. Product of being in the right place at the right time .

It's not that extended cuts can't be good. I enjoyed The Wolverine extended cut for an action sequence that was heavily advertised that was cut from the film. That sequence didn't really change the story but it was cool to watch though it padded the running time.

Lucasfilm have enough problems already trying to keep the canon straight with the novelizations, books, and audiobooks going off in their own directions without extended cuts and director's cuts and what not clouding things even further.

Rian Johnson's notes and direction could have also affected what got cut or changed. They can't just reinsert stuff without screwing up their messaging for Episode VII or the plans for the next two films.

A lot of scripts for movies are just too long and too bloated and should have been chopped down before the cameras even started rolling. Peter Jackson I'm also looking at you, but also this trend of dividing movies into two to maximize profit.

Very good points and informational.. i'm still holding out hope. TFA is alright but too child-centric for my liking, hopefully Rian pulls an Empire Strikes Back out of the hat.

Wouldn't the movie released be the original cut? or is the original cut just the unedited version with every scene filmed in it?

I don't think film 7 is the spot to start adding extended editions. But man would I love to see it. I loved them for LOTR. I am watching the BO5A right now. LOL the extended is better. The OT special editions really are very different they tweaked and outride changed content. A good extended edition just gives you more to see.

Too true. I've seen a lot of people complain about the lack of character interaction and politics, yet that was their same complaint with the prequels.

OH wow. All the Jurassic World bashing is giving me a headache. I loved that flick for purely entertaining reasons. Though I must admit to being a Dino fanatic so obviously I'm biased. Lol

First of all, hi all! I've been reading the cantina for a while now and following the site but it's my first time joining the discussion:)

I've been thinking about this too, maybe in the first cut or in the script the fate of some characters didn't match Johnson's ideas, so JJ just left their last scenes out of the film. Johnson was already writing epVIII script while TFA was still in development so there could have been some contradictions.
At least it's interesting that we didn't see the death or escape of any of the new characters, except of course Kylo, we really don't know for sure wether Phasma, Hux or Maz are alive.

Wow even more deleted scenes! It seems Leia was underused after all... just cut out in editing for some reason. I guess us fans don't deserve an explanation on the politics or more screen time with their favorite characters. This movie would have been much better if at least half of these scenes were used.

"the iconic shot of Maz handing Leia the lightsaber" What does this mean, exactly? A brief shot in one trailer does not make it iconic. Millions of people have gone to see the film and they've all likely forgot they ever saw that shot in the trailer let alone that it wasn't included, nor did they know its context. JJ Abrams doesn't owe us anything. He already made a fan-friendly film. Stop complaining.

    Deal with it.

Any fan has the right to complain, especially if they paid to see the movie.

*facepalm* the answer to there being too much politics in the prequels is not to have a sequel that gives the viewer virtually no information about who the sides are and what everyone is fighting over. If we didn't have the new EU to flesh things out I would be very upset about this, and it does lessen the movie not have the relationship between the Republic and the Resistance (and what the hell planets Starkiller blew up) defined, but as it is I'm just mildly annoyed that I have to read books to figure out what was happening in the film.

Yeah I can't help but think those scenes would have been great. . . . especially the snow speeder scene and Rey needing a rescue from Chewie would lessen some critics.

Not sure speeches and politics would sell but I would dig it.

I hope they offer the option to watch the scenes IN the film. Not just extraneously.
