I don't have to meet someone to know I don't like them.

Seriously, do you think if Smith was shown some advance footage of the movie he'd come out trashing it?! I'd be far more impressed with rave reviews coming from someone who is generally indifferent towards Star Wars or who normally doesn't like Star Wars. I care just enough for Smith's opinion as I do Harry Knowles, which is ZILCH.

"I’d rank it right after Empire in a list of fave Star Wars flicks."

    Today I learnt something new.
He just forgot about the OT like George Lucas did, as he had written/directed the PT.
Maybe Smith is a good guy, but statements like that are mind boggling.

    Which list?
He must have erased ANH and RotJ from his memory during the release of TPM.

I edited my post, now it's funnier.
Agreement or not, telling the fans that TPM is the second best Star Wars movie right after ESB is crazy even back then.
I know that there are people out there who like the PT more than the OT, but I guess they are outnumbered.

I doubt he's seen the full movie. I bet tthat maybe 11 or so people in the entire universe have seen the movie.

This quote should be written on everyone's hand so when they start to think "You know maybe I can trust Kevin Smith on this one", they can just look at their hand and go

    "oh yeah"

Calling someone a schmuck is quite a bit farther down the road than not caring about one's opinion.

You can say you dont care what his opinion is - I dont either - but calling him names is bit ridiculous. He is involved with numerous charities and helps his friends with promotion. What a Rebelscum for helping friends and those in need. I could give a rats ass about his opinions on this movie, but that is a far cry from labeling him personally.

I think any one who is criticizing KS about his PT opinions from over a decade ago needs to understand that most of us were trying to justify the PT as being great movies. Now, that we are older and wiser most of us will admit that there were a lot of failings in the PT. I would imagine Kevin Smith is the same way and I would think that he went in with some skepticism about the film and over time the things he has seen has amped him up. We are less than 50 days out so we will know soon enough.
