    No doubt I'm teaching some people to suck eggs, but the original sequel to ANH was a novel called 'Splinter of the Mind's Eye'. This was intended to form the basis for the movie sequel, too; but after SW went stella, Lucas proceeded with a bigger, grander vision.

    Elements of Splinter did find their way into the story, however; the loss of an arm and death through a pit fall both befalling Vader during the climactic battle with Luke.

    Central to Splinter, too, was a search for a lost temple named Pomojema (always admired your moniker, @Pomojema-very "true fan") and the search for a Kaiburr Crystal (the novel's spelling). So, far from being a recent addition to canon via Rebels, the idea of "magical crystals" have been a part of SW lore (on-and-off), and a part of Lucas's vision, since the very beginning it seems.

    Little info there for those who didn't know. Now move along, move along.... :D
