Actually, it was recovered. In Wendig's Aftermath, a group of individuals known as the Acolytes of the Beyond bought it from a scavenger.

I have to admit that I don't read the book, currently I'am reading "Heir to the Jedi"

 

It's a fairly rubbish book, but there's bits of canon information that are valuable.

 

I don't think she damaged the lightsabre. I thought she actually cut off his hand. When he is lying on the ground afterwards his arm is outstretched along the ground but the hand is out of frame, on purpose I think. Am I wrong, can someone confirm it was the sabre cut and not the hand off??

 

She didn't cut off his hand. My brother who'd seen it twice already made it his mission to confirm this for me when we re-watched and his hand is fine.

I hope his next lightsaber is similar or just a standard single blade. We've seen double-bladed, we've seen cross-guard... at this point, less is more.

 

He will probably make a cross guard lightsaber that is stable and has functional crossguard, one that will function like an actual longsword, without the inestability showing his completed training as a sith lord and mastering the dark side of the force.

The mask will be interesting to see!

 

I've watched the clip of her disarming him frame by frame (yes it is out there on the internet) and there really isn't a definitive shot of her destroying the crossguard. She wacks at his saber and could have just knocked it out of his hand. It could go either way really but there is definitely not a clear shot of it being cut into two pieces.

 

IF he lost his last saber I think he will build a new one, maybe a little more refined but the same style since he was able to use it to his advantage while fighting Finn.

 

It must have taken him a few years to construct that one, I hope he goes for a new design, I know the sword saber fans would want a return but I think it had it's had it's moment in TFA, I hope he wields something like this

 

pretty cool with the lettering etched in. I'd like to see the crossguard return just because of how radical it was. Especially if he takes on Rey with a double bladed saber like many are predicting.

 

I know the crossguard has evolved the design of a lightsaber unlike the previous seen in the OT & PT's , three blades against two are better odds, buy that I mean the two small side blades on Kylo's, if Rey can swing a staff a double lightsaber shouldn't be a problem seeing this makes me think of her.

I loved the crossguard, and would love to see a more refined version of that return. On the other hand, bringing back Vader's lightsaber while giving it a similar reveal and presentation as they did with Anakin's in TFA would be a nice touch. Can't think of any new designs that would be met without much criticism... but hey, maybe they will surprise us.

 

They floated this in concept art. Dual bladed with different colors. Since Snoke makes the comment about Kylo being made of light and dark I could see them going this direction. It would be kinda cool to see two dual bladed users fight each other. And Rey should definitely have a gold/yellow color even if I'm dying to see a white saber blade
