SPECULATION Kylo Ren's Next Lightsaber?

Question, is there any info out there on why the kyber crystal in Ren's light saber in VII is cracked? I mean, why would he use a cracked crystal? Is it possible the crystal was from Vader's saber that got blown up in the deathstar, and that's where it got cracked?

 

Nah brah it's literally that he happens to have a cracked crystal, but I think it's because of a shortage of crystals due to The Empire ...

 

Could you elaborate and enlighten me futher please? Why does he just happen to have a cracked crystal?
Also, and please correct me if I'm confused, but didn't the badies use synthethic crystals (with the red blades), and the Jedi the natural ones? Why would there be a shortage of synthetic crystals?

 

we don't have the particulars as to why he chose a cracked crystal. i'm going to hazard a guess that the fracture creates more power. he crafted his weapon based on ancient Sith design and it's a cranky wreck (just like he is) ~ metaphorically speaking.

Ok, so we don't really know where Kylo got his crystal or why its cracked.

You haven't entirely convinced me it couldn't possibly be Vader's old crystal. Please keep trying

I kinda like the idea of the crystal being a metaphor for what happed to Vader i.e. he cracked and let the light back in. To madly speculate further, if the crystals are imbued with the force from their users, then perhaps Kylo's crystal would be particuly strong if imbued by Vader and Kylo, even though it's cracked. Even more mad speculation, perhaps part of the completion of Kylo's training could involve fixing the crystal and making a new, more powerful ligjht saber that won't crack and let the light in. Symbolically removing the weakness that Vader had, and making Kylo invulnerable to the light.

 

Well the crystal would have been inside of Vader's saber and a fanboy such as Kylo seen wouldn't have taken only he crystal as he would have thought it would be cooler to use he actual saber itself but the empire caused a shortage of crystals which is why'd made Kylo be able to acquire a "broken" crystal .

 

Just give him a more refined/stable version of his crossguard saber. It was cool and it fits.

 

any chance he might obtain anakin/luke's old saber while rey builds her own? after all, it is his grandfather's old saber and he does yell in the forest to finn, "that lightsaber-it belongs to me!" perhaps he has used it in the past while training under uncle luke.. just a thought. although obviously i'd like him to build his own, perhaps after becoming a darth...?!?!

But surely if Vader's saber got blown up in the Death Star, the hilt would be kaput, but posibly the crystal could have survived, thou cracked? I just find it hard to believe that a shortage of crystals would have forced Kylo to use the one he did, as between Kylo, KOR and the FO, surely one decent crystal could be found in the galaxy if they wanted it.

 

the cracked crystal has more power. it fits his personality to be hungry that way. he chose it specifically.

 

so at the start of episode 8 Darth Vaders old lightsaber is floating through space......

The link about states that the plasma blade is unstable, thus the need to vent excess power out the side vents. That implies to me that the vents act to modulate fluctuations in plasma blade, funneling off spikes in the energy generated to maintain the plasma. The link doesn't say that its more powerful than the average light saber, but it follows that un unstable energy stream would have peaks and troughs, so moments where its stronger and moments when its weaker than the average light saber. If the peaks werent vented off, explosion would be the likely result. Bit like Kylo himself really.

 

I think it would be really cool if the crossguard is damaged but it can be repaired. Kylo would use Luke's lightsaber that he stole during the Jedi massacre for like the first act of the movie then get his crossguard by the 2nd or 3rd act.
