    I don't think those Lego shorts are canon.

    What we do know, thanks to the Bloodline novel, is that he is alive at least six years prior to TFA.

    Pablo Hidalgo said Lego stuff is separate from main canon not too long ago. Maybe they changed their minds on that. I'm cool with Lando being alive at any rate.

    I think it would be a bit odd for them to play up his character so much in The OT and then just say he died somewhere in the galaxy on some planet in a tweet or something.

    Realistically I don't think he'd have a big part.
    Not a Maz Kanata size part anyway. Now he could have a small but pivotal Lor San Tekka size part (hopefully without being killed)

    Also I think that Bill Dee Williams looks way too different to play Lando in my opinion so it could be hard.

    I keeping thinking they may do like what Star Trek Into Darkness did with Leonard Nimoy. Have him appear on a communications screen and briefly talk to the heroes.

    He did say that Lego stuff often represented Lego-ized versions of canon events in one of his tweets though. As in, the events may have happened, but the characters obviously weren't really Lego characters and the trademark Lego humor wouldn't have come into play either.

    I think it will be enough with Han and Leia in The Force Awakens and Luke and Leia in episode VIII. I rather see more new characters than bringing in another old character.

    From the same TPTB that was trying really hard to get Wedge back for TFA? This same group of people would have no interest in Lando? If so just another knock against them in terms of presenting real diversity in the franchise.
