But the version we got in the film is this one:

It may look silly, but there's a reason why sound is such an important part of films. Without sound, without score, a lot of Star Wars looks silly. The lightsaber fight in Episode I doesn't work without Duel of the Fates.

PS. Here's an example in practice:

PPS. Here's a personal favourite of mine:

Again the use of the word "fans" in general when what you want to say is "a portion of the fandom".

You'll never find unanimous agreement on anything.

I've heard people who hate Chewbacca. I've heard complaints about Yoda in the OT. I've even read someone who thinks Han Solo is annoying.

So you hate Leia in Space. That's okay. But let's move on with these things, and please... STOP DEALING IN ABSOLUTES.

If you really think about it, you'll see that no matter how good anyone is, you can't hit something like that without some sort of tactical enhancement.

    why is that?
hell, you could hit it even if you're the worst ever, simply by getting lucky.
on the other hand, there's not really a limit to skill so if you're infinitely good, you shoul hit it with every single try.

Pretty sure the reasoning behind that was introduced earlier in that movie "Your eyes can deceive you, don't trust them." by Obi-Wan with the face shield on the Falcon. Which I would think further supports the claim that taking that shot was closer to deflecting a blaster bolt with a lightsaber.

I find it odd people use this as their example to substantiate Leia Poppins. Luke required essentially one moment, split second to press the trigger at the right time, with the spiritual guidance of his old master.

Leia required to come back from unconsciousness, freezing conditions and a vacuum, to then proceed to seal herself from said vacuum and then focus on force pulling herself back to the ship. Within that time, returning to consciousness she had to fight back panic and disorientation all the while.

The funny thing is, for myself, I think having one simple element in TFA would have allowed or helped me to suspend my disbelief many times over on this scene. IF Leia had appeared with a lightsaber on her hip as general of the resistance, that would have suggested practice of some sort at some point (imagine the excitement had that been spotted in TFA, at the anticipation of Leia Jeid?). That's not on RJ though.

Maybe one day we'll get a special addition ST, where they add in stuff when 20 years after the directors finally realize and admit to themselves that some tweaks could have benefitted the experience, then we'll get a whole new slew of new complaints to deal with.

For me, the scene is done, so it's over. It jarred me out of the movie, but it was far from the worst part of TLJ.

Again, Luke never used the Force before. Only an hour or so ago he could barely deflect training droid fire. How was he able to channel the Force to blow up the Death Star without any practice doing it? In extreme cases, one can do extraordinary things to stay alive. I see both instances in the same vein.

Multiple force uses vs a single one aided by his master. Injury and age vs youth and health (isn't that a major argument for Rey after all?). A masters guidance vs doing it by ones self.

We'll have to agree to disagree I think. I have no issue with you enjoying the scene, I just think there is merit questioning it.

I have no problem with Leia being able to use the Force and wholeheartedly support a scene in the TLJ that shows her using it. Unfortunately the way it was done was to me maybe the absolute low point of the movie (although there are some really low points....looking at you Canto.)

I remain stunned RJ and the ILM team looked at that scene with Leia flying back to the ship and didn’t realize or care how fake and silly it looked. The visual was worse than anything I can recall in a SW movie, including some of the scenes that were essentially cartoons in the prequels. The filmmakers were trying to create this epic Force moment and instead gave us a visual that looked like something we could have seen in Spaceballs in the 1980s.

It’s especially disappointing when I contrast it with ESB and the subtle, yet powerful scene where Leia communicates with Luke when he is trapped underneath Cloud City. No crazy special effects, just a nice, powerful moment that shows Leia is Force sensitive and adds a key moment to the storyline.

I’d almost feel better about the scene in TLJ if RJ came out and said they ran out of budget by the time they got to it.

Isn't it canon that Luke taught Leia something about the Force? I remember something to that effect.

...Because it's a very narrow passage that you have to hit while flying at a very high speed? It has been shown that a trained pilot with a computer couldn't do it a couple of scenes ago.

as far as i remember, they showed a single pilot missing the shot once which isn't saying much. How are we to know how good of a pilot he was or more to the point, how good of a shot he was?
Anyways, back in the briefing scene someone says that it's impossible to hit the shot and luke immediately responds that it's not that hard, he used to hit whoompa rats back somewhere which are about the same size.
tl;dr luke has hit similar sized targets before even without using the force.

Considering the Pilot that missed the shot was Red Leader and Luke's superior officer who originally didn't think Luke could handle an X-Wing had Biggs not vouched for him. I'm sure being Red Leader requires great combat flight experience. Not like we're talking about Porkins or some other low level Rebel Pilot. So now we're at a point where Red Leader is a bad pilot, great

I personally thought Luke was being over confident and cocky in that scene like many hot shot pilots would say just like Han rolled his eyes in that same scene too.
