It is not the case. Dont worry. Luke will show up in the movie before the end and will have more scenes than some people think.

I agree also, this idea of Luke showing up at the end is killing his character's importance in this movie, whatever Luke do, Luke will do great.

Luke is the MacGuffin, "what happened to Luke?" is the question the whole film (and discretely the publicity) seems to turn around. He has to do something more than be 'found' in the last scene. Compare him to the Ark of the Covenant in 'Raiders of the Lost Ark', the film is about the search, in the third act he appears and is fundamental to the resolution. This leads to question like, how does Kylo escape? and do Snoke and the rest of the Ren show up?
I am intrigued by the idea that the unbalance of the absence has somehow weakened the Force as a whole and that's why Luke is hiding. He's weak. And the Ren rediscover the Dark Side and thus Awaken the Force.
A good question that someone else brought up ... what are we supposed to make of the fact that the 'confrontation' scene takes place in darkness while pretty up everything else we've seen of the 'ice planet' is daytime....raises big question of how it fits in.

The elephant in the room remains this: why is Luke hidden? Why is he living in seclusion? After the Endor victory did he take an active part in rebuilding the new republic or a new jedi academy? And if he initially did, what happened that made him 'abandon' the true friends he risked his life for back in episodes 5 and 6?
Whatever the reason they damn well make it a good one as i feel it will be at the heart of what sets the ST in motion.

Exactly, then at that moment, he will know that he must go to face this evil.

"All that will be answered in Episode 8-9, this is Rey, Finn, and Poe's story now!"

Slightly off topic, but it's ironic that even Daisy Ridley finds it shocking and maybe a little scary that so many people are buying toys of her and getting tattoos of her face already despite knowing nothing about her character aside from the name.... For the record, I agree with her 100%, and haven't bought anything in relation to the new characters yet. How are we supposed to know we like them without knowing who they are, lol? Yet I'm "bad" because I was excited to see Luke and am hoping to see him again when I know I like that character? Lol...

Han, Finn, and Chewie are noticing the X-wings skimming the water heading straight for them.

I remember reading a "legit leak" months ago that Luke's entrance into this film would very much parallel Obiwan's reveal in ANH, that is a rescue of the hero(s), and pulling back the cloak hood to reveal his face. I would like this poetry a lot.

The thought keeps coming to me, as it did around the time of the Comic con panel, that Disney/Lucasfilm really underestimated just how hungry the audience and fans were/are to see the classic characters back, especially Han and Luke. And, I know I have speculated on this before, but I would love it if it came out later that Luke or Han's fate was changed or extended based on how much positive feedback they have gotten from the fans. How cool would it be if Han was supposed to be killed off in Episode 7, but they realized how loved he still was, and that Ford realized he had more story to tell, and they literally filmed a new scene where he could comeback. I know, wishful thinking, but the awesome feedback to see Luke, Han, and Leia together is amazing.

Luke's entrance will be somber, because we will find him in chains....

    You better be right

This definitely makes a lot of sense, i'm pretty sure he will show up and make mincemeat of Kylo.

I completely agree with this. They're being rescued- shouldn't they be smiling or cheering? At least Han & Chewie should be.... but they look completely shocked. Not at all like how they should look when the x-wings show up.

So who is it who has come? I think Poe's black x-wing used to be Luke's, and he acquires (is given?) it on Jakku. That could make the heroes look like this- or perhaps that bit in the script about "A black TIE fighter saves the day" really did mean a black TIE fighter and not a black x-wing, which is how we all kind of explained it away. In which case, it could be Luke inside it. (It's not Poe, he's def. in the black x-wing).

He never has to get out of it, and Hamill doesn't need to have filmed a scene in one for it to work. But these three know something very, very odd is happening. It's not just the cavalry riding to the rescue. Not too many things leave Han Solo speechless, but this does.

Edit: Also JJ was just on the Howard Stern show and said Luke's not in the trailers so as not to spoil the movie. So there's still hope for more than a couple of scenes, including scenes where we know he's there, but don't actually get to see him.

I agree with this, but maybe he didn't abandon his friends & family. He's a Jedi- he can sneak around like no one else can. :)

what if the force was "in balance" after ROTJ, and "turned itself off"?
an unintended consequence of the death of the last Sith?
    who knows?

and, what if a dark and mysterious outsider (Snoke) is the reason the force reawakens some 29 or 30 years later.
it is "needed" again. Luke feels it coming back, and calls out across the galaxy to "recruit."

"It is time". kill him before he regains his strength.

i dunno. i think there is more to this plot than Luke the hermit.

this also supports my theory that Rey and Finn are unrelated to the big 3.
and they are simply the "nobodies" who answer the call, and are swept up in the action.
conceivably, they become Luke's "children of the force", and since they (conveniently) have no last names, they become Skywalkers.

    i dunno.

I am convinced that Luke will be in the shadows. I think the scene where he puts the robotic hand on R2 is on Jakku after the attack. That's just my gut feeling, but who knows?

The Kylo TV spot has Snoke saying that they will face their biggest challenge; it's got to be Luke, the only Jedi to defeat Vader and Palpatine (they won't know Anakin killed his master). I think Luke will save the day.
