    Small theory I thought about:
We see that Luke's robotic hand in the vision and the final scene is different than the one we see on ROTJ.

What I think is that maybe Luke lost his previous robotic hand when Ben/Kylo did what he did whit Luke's students.

    Thoughts?

There certainly must be a reason for it to appear as it does now. You raise a good possibility. Or perhaps Luke has faced Snoke before and that is partly why both remain in shadow

It's too bad C3POs red arm isn't his right arm because that would be neat if Luke used C3POs arm haha.

How do we know it is a different arm?
it could be just without the synthetic skin?

From what I remember about the last scene in TFA, it seems that the hand in the vision and at the end may not be the same one....
Does anyone have a picture of the last scene?

Perhaps it is just an upgrade, also why does he need to cover it as well with anything.

They don't even need to explain it, it can just be done for aesthetic reasons. That's one of the reasons why I love Mad Max Fury Road because it didn't bother explaining every bit of continuity but rather focused more on capturing what made that franchise special.

Maybe he removed skin as a constant reminder not to follow Vaders path. In Jedi he looked at vaders hand then his own mechanical hand before throwing down his saber

Luke has just grown wiser and older... he probably had several hand upgrades over the last 30 years, no longer feels the need to hide it as he is just above that kinda stuff now.

Either he got cut in the EXACT same spot (again) and got a new one which i think is unlikely

Or the "skin" has worn off and he just doesn't care anymore

I think it is a display of sober humility.
Why would a Jedi master play pretend that his body is still intact ( both for himself or for others )?

    *whispers*
I was talking about possible motivations for not wearing the lifelike one he got in ESB.
I saw the movie too :)
