Anyone remember the red hair wig that was ordered for the movie about a year ago? Is it possible the sentence to Rey was spoken by a possible red head and which was later taken from the final cut in order to preserve the mystery?

I can almost certainly see them giving Luke a Mara Jade-like wife. But on a side note (if Rey is Luke's daughter and his wife was a force user) this would explain why she is so powerful. A Jedi-Jedi child has perhaps never been seen before in the main saga. This would also play into the theory of Luke getting her away from the Jedi Academy, he wasn't confident in his abilities as Kylo was failing.. and Rey was much stronger than him, stronger sith potential.

    I agree with John Campea.

Rey being revealed as Lukes daughter raises more questions than answers. Who is her mother, Lukes wife? Who WAS she? What happened to her? Why did they, or Luke, leave Rey on Jakku? Why doesn't Han or Leia remember Luke had a daughter? Why doesn't Kylo Ren remember? and if he does, why did he keep it a secret or tell Snoke and try to go after Lukes kid? Palpatine knew Vader had a son.

Theres alot of having to goback to explain stuff, coming up a potentially silly explanation of a force technique that "wiped" memories, introducing a character who is already dead (Unless the mother gets no mention)

It's just alot to establish in a movie thats supposed to answer atleast some of the questions TFA raised.

I know most of you are probably going with Mara Jade but that was a eu fantasty off course I was glad Luke found love in his life but like Anakin it would be his weakness, I doubt Luke met anyone during the 30 years since TROTJ Rey is probably a niece.

Where Rey gets left on jakku

Why the red wig a year ago and no specific red head in the movie now?

“I'll come back sweetheart, I promise"

I think it might be a figure with red hair which was left out as to keep the mystery

I have a feeling the reason the 'Rogue One' movie is being made between TFA and VIII is that Felicity Jones' character could be Rey's mother.

    That is from the novel.
And it is more damning, to me anyway, of the Luke's daughter theory than supportive.
"I'll come back, sweetheart. I promise."
    Is a promise broken.
Remember: Maz Kanata says, "the family you are waiting for - they're never coming back."
Either the promise has been broken, or Maz is a liar. You pick.

It is much easier to imagine that Rey was left on jakku, and circumstances kept her birth family from ever coming back... Than it is to believe luke broke a promise to his only daughter.
Or to introduce even more wrinkles.... Like, luke not knowing he knocked up some woman. A woman who never told luke she bore his child. A mother who we will never meet in the movie. And that woman leaving rey, etc etc.

Man, is it getting complicated for you guys. :D:p

If I remember correctly I think the red haired wig story was false. I may be mistaken though.

Not really. Since it is speculation:

    (a) it is not a broken promise if the person dies, i.e. if Rey's mom is dead
    (b) Luke is standing next to a gravestone at the end of the movie.
    (c) Luke was clearly never "coming back"; he had to be found to be reinvolved

I'm not saying Rey is Luke's daughter, although that would make "legacy" sense. She could also be a "no one". Like many other things in the movie, there are a lot of open unanswered questions that can be addressed in many ways in the next two movies.

Why do i keep hearing about this grave stone? I watched TFA 4 times and it certainly didn't stand out to me.
Anybody want to share a still image?

    On this, we totally agree.

Honestly, I don't take screenshots of movies, and I admit I'm not 100% certain it is a gravestone. I just think it looks like one. It's to the bottom left of him, near his feet.

I specifically looked for it after someone first mentioned it and there is a small rock sticking out of the ground to the left of Luke. While I don't think it is a gravestone, I can see where someone may think it looks like one

so that's why the Rogue One first draft has Jones' character as code name "Cougar"!
