A few weeks have passed. While Rey is off-planet training with Luke, there will be an assault on the Resistance base. Ackbar, Nien Nunb, Snap and many others will be killed. Leia will be badly wounded and Poe and BB-8 will rescue Threepio and Finn (not sure how he'll come out of the coma). They'll get to another base where they run into an old friend -- Lando Calrissian, with his daughter (future love interest for Finn). Finn wants to find Rey. Lando's daughter takes him and Threepio to find her. In the midsts of this, they start out as fighting and eventually fall in love. Lando and Poe begin to develop a plan to fight back.

Meanwhile, Leia has been kidnapped by Hux and Ren, this time, they are even more set on finding Rey and Luke. Leia is kept alive just barely in order to give them information. Of course, she is able to fight back and seemingly Leia begins to turn Ren back to the light. She is taken before Snoke, who realizes Leia's intentions and strikes her with Force lightning, weakening her more. As opposed to stopping Snoke, Ren watches, interested more in finding Luke and Rey. She is weakened within an inch of her life when she finally offers up the information they need. She is left for dead while Snoke and Ren begin their plan.

As a massive First Order fleet leaves for Luke's world commanded by Snoke, Lando and Poe's fleet arrives. They find Leia, who is completely unresponsive to anything although she hangs on for her life. She's able to whisper two words: "Save... Luke." For most of the film, Luke and Rey train although their relationship is not a great one as Rey doesn't fully trust Luke and Luke finds much darkness in Rey. He does, eventually, reveal her heritage(whether that's Luke or Obi-Wan's, I don't know). Finn, Lando's daughter and Threepio arrive at the planet and find Chewie and Artoo. Finn says he needs to find Rey. Chewie stops him. The First Order fleet arrives surrounding them. Ren and Snoke land. While Ren and Rey fight, Snoke and Luke have a battle of ideologies. Rey loses her hand which makes Luke lose concentration. Snoke fires lightning and Luke is thrown from the cliff to his death. Finn, Chewie and Lando's daughter climb the steps, running into Phasma. Phasma and Finn fight and Phasma is distracted as Luke falls. Phasma is knocked out.

Meanwhile, Lando and Poe's fleet arrives. They take a severe beating but manage to drive off much of the enemy fleet. Poe's X-Wing crashes into the ocean. Seeing Luke's demise, Rey runs Snoke through, her place as Kylo's pupil in place. Finn and Rey make eye contact as Rey boards with her new master. Lando conducts a search for Poe's X-Wing and finds BB-8 but no Poe. Mirroring the end of Empire, aboard a medical ship, a slowly recovering Leia and Lando watch over the body of Luke Skywalker as Finn, Chewie and the droids look on. They have one mission ahead: Find and stop Rey and Ren.

ETA: Also, just a thought -- what if Rey's Palpatine's granddaughter?

I'm going to keep this short and simple.

I would love to see Rey and Kylo sent on their own missions by Luke and Snoke respectively - to find Darth Vader's lightsaber. A race against time with each other while in the backdrop, the First Order moves to take control of the gaping hole in the New Republic after the destruction of the Hosnian System.

Ever since Vader's light saber was mentioned in "Aftermath" and the focus of Luke/Anakin's light side lightsaber being in Episode VII, I have to think that these two saber's are meant to duel again as they once did on Cloud City. I could be way off base here, but I feel it would be poetic to see these two sabers duel again with the blood of Anakin flowing in each of the wielders.

Bravo. This is awesome. So Kylo Wins the race otherwise no duel. But for the sake of poetry: both sabers get destroyed/lost again at the end of EPisode 8 so both have to create a new saber for Episode 9? (Like Luke had to do for ROTJ)

He realised he had a choice.
They were all taken from birth and are essentially brainwashed slaves.

If Finn can make himself someone people would aspire to then I can see the ST's breaking ranks and deserting. That would be a different and interesting way to go (in defeating the FO) rather than out and out war.

Yeah but there's no evidence that it can or will go this way. In order for him to break FO programming he's going to have equally persuasive measures.

I think it's way more likely Finn will free FO recruits and children than change the minds of Adult Troopers.

I'm sorry, but turning Rey dark would be a HORRIBLE idea. Have her face trials, and be tempted, sure. But to have her flat-out turn, Disney would be shooting themselves in the foot on that one.

I also don't see Luke dying. MAYBE in Episode IX, but not here. Han dying was for specific reasons, both on-camera and off. But I doubt that Disney wants the rep of "killing off one of the OG Big Three in every film."

And lord no to Leia being kidnapped/used as a hostage again. Shades of ESB much?

I noticed in TFA that Rey is a survivor so her first instinct is to run and hide when she can, but if you corner her or threaten one of her friends, she will fight.

I'm guessing that she will go MIA for a while once she learns the truth about her past, whatever bombshell that is going to be. If it was Luke who left her she'll be hurt he didn't come and get her, if she is Han & Leia's she'll be devastated that Kylo is her brother, if she is the child of a Sith...she'll freak out, etc.

The only thing that will bring her back out of hiding is to help/protect someone she cares about. Maybe Finn and Poe? Who knows?

Anyhow, just my guess, but no hard feelings if you disagree.

Well, I wrote it in broad strokes because I was coming up with it on the fly. But whose to say that she is totally going dark? Perhaps some hints of Dark Empire here? Isn't the idea of this trilogy shades of grey? You have to leave the second installment on a major cliffhanger. She's left with no choice but to go with Kylo. It doesn't have to mean she's going to be the next Sith. You have to up the ante and TFA left the ante pretty big.

Boyega has said VIII will be really dark. Maybe I've gone too far and that's a possibility. But again, you have to up the ante.

Admittedly, I just needed something for her to do. :p

Why do I feel like Luke's death will be ambiguous by the end of VIII? He will get severely injured by Snoke and whoever, and the movie will end shortly after. The cliffhanger will be whether or not Luke is dead.

Another idea I've heard and have become quite fond of is Rey and Luke finding the first Jedi temple. Thoughts?

Luke trains Rey and Snoke Trains Kylo

The new Republic ends up siding with the new Order( at least for episode 8)

    Rey's parentage is revealed

Part of Snokes back story is revealed but most of it remains a mystery only to be revealed in episode 9. we will definitly be having is Snoke Plagueis? discussions till episode 9 comes out.

Finn and Poe have an adventure together probably involving a girl and maybe to rescue leia who has gets captured by the New Republic
Finns main story arc after getting over his injury is coming to terms with life after been a storm trooper and dealing with different social situations.
    Finn is not force sensitive

Rey and Kylo have another light sabre battle at the end, this time Kylo wins.

Phasma remains crap and pointless just in cool armour.

Funny how my ideas were twice liked as original because the only thing I did was invert some themes from the Empire Strikes Back. Same way The Force Awakens inverted many themes from A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Why then are so many people calling TFA not "original" ?

I would guess as said by many before that what remains of the republic will ally it`s forces with the resistance and we will see a stronger resistance, but also a stronger First Order. I would guess there will be a gap between Episode 7 and 8 on 1-3 years. During this time the First Order`s navy will have grown a lot stronger as they have prioritized their credits on that instead of a super-weapon which failed in TFA. The resistance will see great losses and I think that Kylo will be a bit stronger than Rey in this film actually. It could be so that Kylo`s traning has been completed before Episode 8 starts, but Rey is still training with Luke. As the dark side is a faster path to power which even Grand Master Jedi Yoda said in ESB (right?). A confrontation between Rey and Kylo will defiantly be a part of Episode 8, but I think that Luke and Snoke will meet first in Episode 9.
Interested to hear your thoughts and good to be back at the cantin after a LLLLOOOOONG break.

    Ok, more ideas:

-Luke trains Rey, but is evasive about her backstory (which he knows about). She makes progress, but her anger/abandonment issues keep resurfacing. She also continues to have Force Visions, one of which confirms a past connection to Luke. She confronts him in an incredible emotional scene, and Luke finally comes clean. Either he is her father, but didn't know about her, or thought her dead. Or he knew her actual parents and had met her when she was a young girl. Either way, it ended badly because of the FO/KOR, and Luke didn't know where she was. Even though it wasn't his fault, he still harbors a lot of guilt about it.

-Luke feel like the traditional "Light vs. Dark" conflict is fundamental flawed. So rather than just continue the endless cycle, he went looking for answers from the original Jedi. They were able to balance the two sides of TF within themselves, without either side overwhelming them. But over the eons, that skill knowledge became lost/corrupted, hence the endless Jedi vs. Sith conflicts. The Sith were originally Jedi, who had let the darkness consume them, but the Jedi tried to compensate by leaning too far in the other direction. The balance between the two is key, Luke has learned.

-Luke also explains that, in an effort to correct this imbalance, a massive amount of Force energy is released every so often. This also serves to give certain individuals massive innate Force abilities, with Luke believing Rey and Kylo to be two such people. But one needs intense concentration and focus to spot and harness this energy, and those who are gifted with it need proper training to control it, or it could consume them. This is the titular "Awakening." Snoke is a powerful Dark Sider who seeks to harness this energy to spread true darkness across the galaxy and beyond. His backstory is also elaborated on a bit more.

-The conflict between the FO and TR (know openly allied with what's left of the NR) continues, with loses on both sides. Lando is the new Chancellor, and he and Leia bond over their shared grief over Han's death. Finn, Poe, and co go on secret missions for them, and along the way meet a female Mandalorian who was hired to kill them by the FO, and are also hunted by Captain Phasma and co. There's some confrontations, with the heroes barely escaping, and then Female Mando turns on the FO and helps them (as she was hired to by a "third party"). There's some romantic tension/chemistry between her and
    Finn.

-Kylo as been trained in advanced DS techniques by Snoke, and is now much more focused/powerful. He uses the info that he took from Rey's head in the first film to track her and Luke down with the other KOR, forcing them to flee in the MF. A cat and mouse game ensues, and Rey is separated from Luke. She confronts Kylo, and a fierce battle ensues. But Kylo uses his new abilities, along with exploiting Rey's anger/hatred of him making her reckless, to defeat and badly injure her. He wants to take her back to Snoke, but Luke arrives to try and talk him down. This fails, and Luke engages Kylo and the KOR himself, overpowering them. But he is wounded himself in the process, and the FO arrives to back up Kylo (Hux having secretly placed a tracker on his ship). Luke and Rey attempt to fight, but are overwhelmed by sheer numbers and firepower. But then Finn and co arrive (Female Mando having hacked into the FO's communications and tracked them). A massive battle ensues, with multiple named characters dying, but eventually the FO regains the upper hand, with the heroes being forced to flee.

-The film ends with Rey and Luke recovering from their injuries, with the others trying to come up with a new strategy. Meanwhile, Snoke compliments Kylo in his progress, and assures him that he will become powerful enough to kill Luke in time, and that the final stages of Snoke's ultimate plan have begun.

i've had a couple of outlandish ideas...

Episode 8 (approx 6 months after TFA)

    - A First Order force attacks the resistance thinking it to be weak, only to find that republic ships have joined the resistance and the FO attack is crushed quickly.
    - Rey has been training with Luke. the resistance have not heard from them since the end of TFA. we see Rey training, but she has not been told about her family yet.
    - Hux comes before Snoke and Ren. Hux has failed Snoke for the last time... Hux is viscously killed by Snoke. his replacement enters.. Benicio Del Toro. he has news of skywalkers whereabouts for Snoke.
    - Finn has semi-recovered from his injury
    - Finn meets a new key resistance member (female). Poe is VERY 'enamoured' with her. we will call her Selene for want of something better.
    - The resistance uncover Snokes location. Leia orders Poe to prepare an assault. although still recovering from his injury.. Finn convinces Leia that he is fit enough to join them.
    - Luke tasks Rey with obtaining a crystal for her own lightsaber from within the temple. it is a dark side 'dagobah cave' type experience for her. She completes the task and builds her own double bladed light saber using the crystal she retrieved. She ignites her lightsaber... it's white. Luke informs Rey that she is his daughter.
    - Rey is confused, upset and angry. she is about to leave when Ren and his Knights land on the island. Ren goes for Luke, who defends himself but wont attack. Rey is attacked by the other knights.. she cuts them all down in a furious rage. Ren sees this, taunts Luke about another failure and escapes the island.
    - meanwhile.. Poe and his assault team fight their way onto Snokes mobile command centre. i hate myself for saying this but.. ITS A TRAP! Phasma is waiting for them. Finn has a big fight with Phasma and loses. Most of the team is killed.. Poe escapes but Finn and Selene are captured.
    - Luke tries to calm Rey, but she is very confused by her own actions and feelings. she boards the falcon and leaves... she heads back to Jakku.
    - Finn and Selene are brought before Snoke. Snoke senses the force in Finn - he submits Finn to severe torture.
    - Luke travels to the resistance and meets Leia (finally !) Luke tells Leia that only together will they be able to save Ben/Rey and defeat Snoke.
    - Snoke kills Selene in front of Finn. The Force is awakened within Finn.. cue some yellow eye action and some dark side music.

fiction to put it mildly lol, and i don't honestly think it will go this way. just some wild thoughts :)

Haven't read any of the threads in detail so I may repeat some plot ideas. But these are some plot points I think are likely. Not all possible details, just some ideas thrown out there.

    - The underlying theme of the film will be "the low levels people are willing to sink to to achieve their own ends."
    - Benicio del Toro will be the leader of the remnants of the Republic.
    - The Republic will become a sinister force in the galaxy, with its own super weapon. This is probably why the writers created the Resistance as separate from the Republic. The Resistance will find itself fighting hopelessly against two powerful sides.
    - Rey will have a romantic draw to Kylo Ren.
    - Finn and Poe will be on mission together.
    - Captain Phasma will probably pursue and capture Finn
    - Leia may purposely put herself in grave danger in order to appeal to her son's light side. This will fail.
    - The Republic will somehow capture Kylo Ren. Perhaps by turning the Knights of Ren against him.
    - Rey will abort training to save her friend, but unlike Yoda and Obi Wan in ESB, Luke will support this and join her. We will be made to believe they are going after Finn when it is revealed they are going to Kylo Ren.
    - Del Toro, the Knights of Ren, Luke and Rey, and a Captured Kylo Ren will end up in the same place at the film's climax. Luke and Rey's goal will be to disable the Republic's super weapon, fight and defeat the Knights of Ren, and free Kylo Ren, hoping to see his redemption.
    - Luke and Rey will succeed in defeating the Knights and freeing Kylo Ren. Kylo Ren will ruthlessly kill Benicio del Toro's character.
    - Kylo Ren will reveal information to Rey that leads her to seriously doubt Luke.
    - The movie will end with all three separating. Rey to find Finn, the only friend she now trusts. Luke to find Leia. Kylo Ren to who knows.

-No, I can stress this enough. Rey going dark, as opposed to simple being tempted=BAD IDEA!! Not interested, and it'd just be Disney shooting themselves in the foot for no good reason.

-None of the main heroes die in ESB, and yet that was the darkest of the OT by far.

-As opposed to them needing her military/political skills even more to deal with The FO since the NR fleet, and a big chunk of her own, is gone.

So, here's the nice thing about opinions: You can have yours and I can have mine.

Having said that, I haven't worked out all the details of my draft. I reiterate: This was my first draft of an idea I wrote on the fly. I admit. It's really dark. And it probably needs to be reigned in. Details likely will change as I develop the idea. Some might not. You don't like what I did. That's cool.

Besides, its my idea. The idea that it will bear any resemblance to what's actually going to appear onscreen in May 2017 is not a factor in my mind. So, what does it matter?
