SPOILER New Extract from Aftermath: Life Debt

Agreed. I'm starting to dislike the new canon in regards to what they are doing to Luke.

Luke leaving for searching Jedi artifacts to rebuild everything from scratch is not illogical and it's something that I can see. But this piece makes it sound like an abandonment, as if Luke woke up one day and disappeared without much of a notice, not even a "went to look for Jedi things, CU!" note. Which is simply OOC. In ROTJ Luke did go on his own to face Vader, but he did say everything to Leia beforehand. Also, I don't know in what galaxy and canon anyone would make Luke Skywalker go away from family like that. The whole catalyst for Luke staying on Tatooine was because his family was there (much like Rey was waiting for hers on Jakku) and he left only because Beru and Owen died. He believed in Vader's redemption again because he was family and almost slipped in the Dark Side when Vader threatened Leia, his sister.

It's not even Legends nostalgia, it's a canon 180.

I know that it's implied that he returned, since Kylo went to him for training, but this causing this abandonment doesn't feel IC for Luke.

As for the rest of the text, it explains how Leia was able to sense Han dying in TFA. This Force sensing seems to be her thing in the new canon, but it seems she doesn't have anything else to show. Which is fine, IMO and it fits with why Kylo Ren turned to Vader for Force guidance; if Leia was more knowledgeable, maybe Kylo could turn to her for guidance.

There are many aspects that are so interesting it it. Here are just a few...

1) We have Force meditation i.e. Leia's first experiences of consciously attempting to connect with/practice the Force, which foreshadows that for the next 28-9 years she probably continued with this practice and advanced? That is exciting indeed.
2) The connection between Leia and Ben apparently is very special and beyond just the usually strong mother-son close connection - they probably formed a strong bond in the Force as well? I think we may speculate that that would be explored in the next 2 movies and probably play an important role in the story...(Leia's statement in TFA that she knows there is still light in her son has even more weight...) In my headcanon they have a Force bond, but this excerpt is 1st canonical info about that actually being the case...

4) Ha! Another direct connection between trees and the Force.Well, that's definetely a pattern!
5) Well, it is exciting to hear that baby Ben has spirit and courage, wit and a keen mind...Of course, Leia will want her lost son back. So do we!

EDIT: Well, obviously, #5 should actually be with #3...Have trouble loading the Cantina forums as I'm travelling in far away lands with sketchy/unreliable Internet...I can hardly even follow what I'm typing ...

 

I think they are just being quiet about him because of his absence through most of TFA. I am sure after VIII more will come out. Leia always seemed kind of empathic and strong in mind. Resisting Vader in IV could be used as an example, even if it wasn't that developed she was Force sensitive at that point.

 

Another thing I forgot (and misplaced the numbers in my post) was to mention that baby Ben being aware/conscious (and possibly already connected with the Force) in the womb reminded me of the twin children of Paul Atreides especially Leto II (Dune fans will know what I'm talking about)...There are many parallels/call backs in SW "borrowed" (?) from the Dune books in the past films...For example: the Kwisatz Haderach and the Chosen One; the mind-trick and the Bene Gesserit use of "the voice", etc.

 

Anyone else wonder why the the room was padded? Reminded me of a padded cell.

Any other preview chapters people find yet? Usually there is a drop of another chapter or two close to release. As far as what the new canon has done to Luke. It's mostly mystery, and they want to save it for the movies. I remember kind of being upset the same thing seeing TFA and what they did to Han and Leia, but the most extra stuff came out, the less bad it started to seem (well, except for the whole patricide thing). I think they are just keeping a lot of mystery around Luke until the movie. I imagine more books and comics coming out later with Luke and his quest for jedi lore as well as Ben's turn.

 

Okay, I know this is a Life Debt thread but I didn't think it was necesary to start a new one with this cover. So, I'm going to put it here. You may have already seen the cover for final book in this trilogy but I just now saw it. Is the SD crashing, the same one that crashed into the surface of Jakku and could we see more of our favorite characters from Lost Stars? If so that's fine but was hoping it would involve Luke and it very well might.

 

I suspect that what we see on this cover is the Ravager, the Super Star Destroyer mentioned at the end of the first Aftermath. It's the same SSD that the Millenium Falcon flies through in TFA. I look forward to finding out the identity of the mysterious Admiral who commands it.

 

I didn't even notice it being a SSD. That's good because I don't want anyone other than Claudia Gray continuing the story of those characters from Lost Stars.
