No, it's still happening. They just haven't formally announced it yet.

No way does the first part of RJ's trilogy come out before Anthology #3.

And they're wrong to have come to that conclusion. The only evidence that they had was that a Star Wars movie wasn't listed as part of Disney's 2020 movies, which means nothing except the fact that they haven't scheduled one there just yet.

Let me put it this way - knowing about Lucasfilm's trouble with directors, do you honestly want them to formally announce a project before it's actually ready, or would you rather that they find a writing/directing team that can produce results and then announce a date?

I thought the director of Billy Elliot was the nearest thing to being officially chosen of the Standalone 2020 film.

I'm starting to think Disney will dump the stand alones & just focus on "trilogies" now. R1 made 600 million less then expected & Solo may not pass 900 million world wide.

Why make risky standalones wen u can make bank on 1.5 billion making Trilogies.

Many Hollywood insiders/bean counters/money handlers originally thought R.1 was gonna make at least 1.5 billion ww.

I'm not saying R1 was a flop, not at all. It did underperform. I thought it wood make 1.3 minimum.

If they stop developing standalones and focus 100% on Rian's trilogy (for the time being!), it would be the best thing they could do right now IMO. Rian's trilogy is a spin-off on steroids. Strike while the iron is hot. If they have such potential on horizon and the plans are already set, they shouldn't waste time on anything else. I think that them announcing this trilogy before the third standalone strongly suggests it might be the priority.

Never officially announced by Lucasfilm. Nothing was official about that. It was a rumor from a third party.
This is what I don't like about major franchises these days... If you've got a major tentpole that doesn't make $1B, your movie is considered a failure by people who don't understand how the box office actually works, or how few movies have reached that benchmark in two decades. Heck, the only Star Wars movie to do it before The Force Awakens was The Phantom Menace, which only got to that point because they did a 3-D re-release years later. For the record, back then, people were putting unrealistic expectations on that movie, suggesting it should have made as much as Titanic.

So far, absolutely nothing Disney has done - officially or otherwise - suggests that they'll be cancelling plans for future spin-offs. For all intents and purposes, Rogue One making just $1B is a massive success in and of itself. Solo doesn't need to get that far to be considered successful, and honestly, it's more important to Disney at this point that the movie is good in spite of a troubled production. Disney wants to milk the cash cow annually, and if they choose to skip a year, then that's their call - not a sign that they'll never do one-off movies again.

For the record, I honestly don't think that the "it's part of a trilogy, so therefore it will make $1B" argument you're making makes any sense, either - TFA rode a wave on nostalgia, while Rian Johnson's trilogy will have next to nothing to do with any of the existing films.

I don't know if the film will happen or not, but I hope it doesn't. Obi Wan retired to look over Luke. We know this from Episodes 3 and 4. I have a hard time seeing an interesting story worthy of movie in the daily routine of a desert hermit.

Now a Mandalorian movie, or a film about rogue slicers, I could get behind something like that!

I will absolutely see Solo, but likely only once. I think Solo is a bad idea personally. Han is a borderline perfect character and so much of what made him so timeless was Harrison Fords particular charisma and presence. Going back to the well on that one is all risk with very little upside potential.

Like I said LF will still get my money, but I'd bet Solo will be the worst performing of all the movies through EPIX.

Movie studios should take risk instead of playing it safe. Looking forward to the SOLO film more so now cuz...
I read OB1 makes cameo in the SOLO film
LFL puts their heart and soul into every film I don't think KK would release anything remotely mediocre.

Ob1 was/is my favourite SW character however I struggle to see where the content for his movie would come from. Between PT, clone wars, Rebels and the OT we pretty much know most of his life.

As much as I love the character I'd find it hard to see what the content of the film could be.

I'm not particularly big fan of the idea of basing the anthology films on one character ie Solo, Kenobi, Boba Fett etc because we know what happens to them in the end.

However R1 was based on an event that we were all aware of and introduced a brand new cast of characters (for the most part). IMO I think that is the better way to do it. That way we are left with a more suspenseful and original story.

However if the film turned out to be good I wouldn't give a sh*t lol. After all I wasn't expecting R1 to be any good and I was pleasantly surprised.

And to be perfectly honest, the next spin-off wouldn't release until after Episode IX, so it's not as though they need to announce it anytime in the near future.

Plus, the production cycle on several of the new movies have undergone varying degrees of problems - some of which could have been avoided under better planning. After what happened with Solo, I think they're going to keep their cards closer to their vests.

I heard on youtube that an OB1 film will start production in January 2019. can anyone confirm this? I still don't believe were getting a SOLO film. I'll believe it when I see the SOLO teaser trailer.

As I said earlier, it was reported via another website. One that isn't reliable 100% of the time.
