Add to that the fact that he literally tried to decapitate Finn when had him pressed against the tree. Also note: it was after this potential kill swing that Finn slashes his shoulder. I'm mentioning this because a lot of people think he was toying with him throughout the entire fight when this sequence shows that was clearly not the case.
Anyway I think Kylo thought he was dead which makes sense because the last he saw of him he was face down in the snow and completely unconscious. Also Finn's wounds were obviously serious as they had to rush him back to the med bay as soon as they got back to the base.

I guess Kylo has only himself to blame for punching so hard, that by the time he swung his lightsaber at him, his back was a good distance away. Slicing the epidermis, and a little spine, but nothing more than that layer.

If he pulled his punch, then swung, Finn would be sliced in two.

But I think we all agree, that Kylo was too angrily emotional at the time to think clearly during that part of the fight.

Honestly, Kylo should really be younger. I find it hilarious he is this incompetent in fights at his age.

Kylo was toying with him though.
He was haphazardly swinging with one arm throughout the fight (while bleeding out from the bowcaster shot) and it wasn't until AFTER the slash on the arm that he immediately dispatched of Finn.

I think it'll be explained, but if anywhere, it would have been from just being "another" stormtrooper. Maybe that just really made him want to stick out. That's what he was in the eyes of Rey when he acted like a Resistance member. And now maybe being stuck in the lie is his dilemma (as many have theorized)?

    Lol good point!

For me, his age is more of an issue because at 29 he seems rather emotionally stunted or petty or entitled and more difficult for me to sympathize with.

Anyone have any idea what Luke and Rey will be doing beside training? I can't think of anything that isn't Luke spouting exposition.

Personally, I still think Kylo has been under serious psychological pressure for years. He's desperately trying to believe something he knows deep down to be wrong, and I don't care what Snoke says, killing Han jacked him up emotionally. He's a roiling mass of unstable emotions at the best of times, I think he's lucky he was able to string together coherent sentences afterwards.

    Yeah.

But that makes me think that there's no way this guy can end the ST a fully-functioning adult.

Yeah, I don't see him surviving. The best I think he'll get is a semi-heroic sacrifice where he goes berserk on the First Order and dies a death of a thousand cuts.

Yeah. Generally storytellers who depict a villain committing patricide onscreen don't intend thst character to survive. I think that a heroic self-sacrifice would be by far the best way to rehabilitate the character in the audience's eyes.

If not inspired by grief for Han's death, Leia's likely death in IX may inspire him to revenge. Something tells me Kylo's a major mama's boy.

Yet he doesn't seem to mind breaking his mama's heart in order to resolve his own inner conflict :(

    Poor Leia!!

I feel like I'll feel SO much sorrier for Luke when Leia dies. Despite the feeling that I SHOULD feel more sorry for her son.

I never said Kylo was sane. Probably figures that he did Leia a favor.

Well there's traffic now.....concerning Kylo. It could be worse, our sister thread in that other forum is more rigorously moderated than Stalinist USSR

Ah yes popped in to see they moved from not talking about Race Related Issues to not being able to complain at all.

    Overwhelming Optimism.

I didn't see a lot of the things said here as controversial, they were just theories, speculations and/or opinions which everyone else should've been free to disagree with and go their own way. Where it got really weird to me was when that transitioned into "You can't talk about X" or "You can't talk about Y", not because the statements were erroneous or malicious, but because people didn't like them.

Like... that will never compute with me, not just here and on the Finn topic, but anywhere else. I see if often, people are never satisfied with disagreeing, they seem to have to also silence views they don't like. And no group seems to own the patent on it, I see just about every demographic do it one time or another.

On another note, is there anything new on Finn? I know the Teaser Trailer basically gave us nothing, the DLC for Finn in Battlefront won't drop until the movie opens, I'm curious as to why they're being this circumspect about Finn's upcoming melee combat

Hello, quick note from your friendly neighborhood Stormagadon. :)

As a moderator, I believe in the philosophy of letting people moderate themselves, and letting things run their course. But when you see X or Y topics go down hill repeatedly, the trick is to find a balance between stopping all conversation on it, or let it blow up again (where people really do cross forum rules and regs).
It's worse when we're dealing with a topic that has importance in real life (politics or some such thing), but here is not the place for it. And many times that starts with a comment like:
"Oh, Palpatine is just like a certain US President and here are a bunch of reasons."
Is it factual? Is the comment accurate and probably true? Is it bogus? It could be any of those. And there have been plenty of times throughout the years of cinema where the writers have used opposing political views to represent the antagonist, so it's certainly never out of the realm of possibility for it to be used here. But, what are we to do when discussing challenging views, both personal and political, while trying to talk about a Galaxy Far, Far Away? I've hardly seen a civil discussion last terribly long here or anywhere else. So, we simply ask to refrain from getting to political; specifically about real life politics.
Unfortunately, not all things are as simple as politics. More often than not we are dealing with issues that are much more nuanced. We do our best to observe reactions and the most common offenses that are caused, and strive to avoid those pitfalls.

Lastly, the moderators and Staff members are all human. That's why we communicate and discuss things with each other. We all have differing perspectives and viewpoints. Every decision that is made that effects the whole Cantina has been thought through thoroughly (say that three times fast), and we support our actions. If, however, you (that's plural you, anyone who reads this) find something that is actually prohibiting thoughtful and constructive conversation, contact one of the moderators or Staff members.

I hope that clears some things up, or at least gives a little more clarity to some things you've mentioned. :)

    Carry on everybody, carry on.

I respect the spirit and content of this post (I really do). It does required a nuanced hand to do the moderation on certain topics, I acknowledge it without reservation. But there's a difficulty (in my mind) in saying that any discussion that's related to the topic and does not include a personal attack should be moderated (this is just my opinion). People have a wide variety of views and sometimes they are intensely held, and that's ok. Passionate debate (in my mind) is fine as long as it's related to the topic and doesn't personally attack another person. The rest, I feel, is on the individual posters to do their own self-care (when necessary) and know when to back off a thread, or to disengage a particular poster or conversation for their own peace of mind.

Also where I see potential issues in banning certain conversations is that, while we can view the real world and the GFFA independently, the real world inherently influences the GFFA, sometimes intentionally, sometimes unintentionally. And (again just my personal view) discussing how race may have impacted how Finn was portrayed (intentionally and unintentionally) shouldn't be off topic because some people don't want to discuss it. To me, it is a legitimate point of discussion just as it would be if (for example) some one wondered how much of the accusations that Rey was a "Mary Sue" was based on sexism. People may not like that discussion either, but should it be banned on that basis?

Star Wars (I think) tries to be cognizant of these things, but they've had their misses before (i.e. the Neimodians and the Gungans). Bringing up a potential issue doesn't make it the SJW incursion it feels like it's been treated as. But one of the arguments (that I considered false and aimed at squelching discussion) was to say that Star Wars isn't political. Star Wars, to my mind, has been inherently political, from the "Triumph of the Will" type speech delivered by Hux, to Anakin's "if you are not with me, then you are my enemy" delivered around the same time as George Bush's "Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists". Star Wars has been infused with politics from the real world all the time.

Anyway, thanks for your reply and further clarification. My response is just my view, I don't expect the rules of the forums to change as a result. It does help to have this insight so thank you for providing it.
