Official Finn Episode VIII thread

Why are we even discussing the merits of the TFA marketing in the Finn thread of all places.

We already know we can't rely on that for anything because of the bait-and-switch.

I understand what your saying but you can't deny other things as well. The final trailer asked "who are you?" and gave prominence to 3 characters answering this. Rey, Finn, and Kylo.

Also you can't deny that 3 lives were significantly changed and had their status quo changed in TFA. That is Finn, Rey and Kylo.

Poe didn't have his life altered in TFA like the other characters.


As it is, I'm just playing devil's advocate.


Going forward, I don't think they'll be a real big three anymore.

Take a look at the cover of the new Star Wars: The Last Jedi Sounds book. To me, the new team of sequel trilogy heroes is in that top right picture in their full team glory. (I include Chewie because he's now played by a younger actor.)

 

The trio is Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren. But because Kylo Ren is also the villain, Poe is being marketed as the third member. Ultimately, I think, both Poe and Rose will be remembered as the Lando's of the sequel trilogy. Not quite protagonists but still part of The Crew.

For a long time into pre-production, the main characters weren’t called Rey, Finn, and BB-8 but were known instead as Kira, Sam, and “Surly.” It seems “Surly” was just a placeholder name until a proper name could be found but it is quite funny considering the little droids perky attitude. Kira seemed to remain fairly consistent throughout, only changing names as filming began. But Sam went from being a Caucasian young man who looked similar to Luke to the character we’ve come to know today portrayed by John Boyega. Interestingly, the character known only as “John Doe” for a long time (later Poe) was portrayed as having African ancestry.

John Boyega's charcter Finn also resemble in Legend Finn Galifridian from Star Wars





Finn Galfridian was a Human male from the planet Artoriasduring the Yuuzhan Vong War in 25 ABY. He and his sister Kaye came from a royal background, as his father Caled and stepmother Nina were the rulers of Artorias. However, their peaceful existence was shattered when the Yuuzhan Vong, an aggressive race of extra-galactic invaders, attacked the planet. Finn fought in the defense of his homeworld, an effort which ultimately failed, although he was able to evacuate safely from Artorias due to the timely assistance of the Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. The rest of his family did not fare as well; his sister and mother were captured, while his father chose to remain on Artorias to lead a guerrilla resistance. During the battle, Finn demonstrated that he was Force-sensitive when he sensed his mother and sister being captured, and later became a member of the New Jedi Order under Skywalker's tutelage.

Finn was also the only known Jedi of his time who could sense the Yuuzhan Vong

 

The Kyle Katarn comparison is really interesting and I definitely can see them taking major inspiration for Finn going forward. Finn even wears something similar to Kyle Katarn in the BTS reel. Also given that Kylo is heavily inspired by Jacen Solo, I don't think it is too hard to believe that they could do the same with Finn or any other original characters.

 

Hmmm... Uncle Owen must be a Jedi too since he wears something similar to a Jedi.

 

The fact that its hard to pick out "The big three" is already a good sign. It means they are doing something different. More characters are involved etc I think its a great thing and it'll ultimately make the story better when all is said any done. There's more to like when more characters actually mean something. Just look at how much people like Boba Fett and he did next to nothing in the OT.

Fett's death in ROTJ is probably the most miscalculated thing in the entire OT*

I know I said this before but Finn's outfit look just like Kyle Kartan's from the new Jedi order. Rose's outfit remind me of Jan Ors.

 

Finn made up from these three characters and even have one of their names and they all was force senstive and weld a lightsaber

Some humor :

Who the guy who cleans up after massive amount of stormtroopers been killed ?

 

Pretty much everything you can base off of outfits for Finn goes for Poe too. Finn is wearing Poe’s outfit from the first act of TFA in TLJ. I don’t know if clothes are the best way to guess what someone will end up doing other than if they are obviously in Jedi garb or a Pilots suit....or in dirty, banged up sh*t green mandalorian armor.

 

Just as they said Luke's lightsaber knows belongs to Rey, and Poe's Jacket now belongs to Finn. What I posted is about Finn is made up from three characters from Star Wars Legend. Just like Rey is like Kira, and Kylo Ren is just like Revan from Star Wars the Old Republic.

Yes and no.
Are there similarities? yes but all Star Wars heroes really fall within the same tropes.

I think that's just the style for male clothing in Star Wars.
A lot of the same colors are worn by the same general typecast of characters.
Rugged, warrior types (Han, Kataran, Finn, Poe etc) are all dressed very similarly.
Lando, more regal and elegant...until he's in the Falcon and he's dressed like Han...

I bet if they made a movie on the Aftermath series, Jom would look a hell of a lot like Kataran too.
Nora would probably be a dead ringer for ESB Leia and Jyn Erso.
Snap would probably be along the Kataran/Finn/Han etc look too.
