What big four? There's only a big three and Finn is no longer a part of it as they've traded him in for Poe.

Leia with Poe was stupid. Just as Luke was with Rey. There were things you could actually attach yourself to in a spiritual sense with the OT. They had meaning. The elders in this movie gave no words of inspiration to the other characters or to the audience. Nothing as deep as when Yoda was able to pull Luke's X wing from the swamp. Words that anyone can apply to life. Luke: I don't believe it.... Yoda: That is why you failed.

Ben is just given more spotlight, but he isn't interesting or deep. He's dumb. JJ had him right in the first film. When Kylo catches a hissy fit, the stormtroopers just ignore him. That never would have happened with Vader, and anything that would have given us more insight into Kylo was destroyed the moment he decided to kill off Luke. There are no elders in this trilogy. Maz has been pushed so far into the background that it wouldn't make much sense to give her a lot to do now. It's obvious they want a bunch of kids to control the galaxy, and that in itself is retarded. Especially when they have no connection to anything.

Rey, Finn, Poe and Kylo as they're the ones going through character development and have a story arc.

Others like Phasma, Hux and Chewie aren't going through story arcs.

And Han, Luke and Leia are concluding their story arcs.

Does Poe have a story arc in TFA? No. But he definitely has one in TLJ.

But they didn't trade him for Finn in that aspect.

What Poe DOES have, is a more well defined role in the good vs evil conflict of the sequel trilogy, being a hotshot pilot, being Leia's protege and becoming more of a leader for the Resistance overall.

Unfortunately, Finn has none of those aspects but Poe always did have those aspects and their potential.

So Poe wasn't "traded" for Finn.

What Finn NEEDS is a more well defined role in the good vs evil conflict.

Hopefully now that he's fully committed to the Resistance, that will change.

Even Rose is more defined, by being the Resistance mechanic.

"There have been no elders in this trilogy?!?!?!?"

Who the hell do you think Han, Leia and Luke are!!!!!!!!

Poe and Leia's first scene together in this movie, describes Poe's whole arc and what he needs to do to get there.

Luke spends the film detailing a powerful, yet clueless, Rey what the Force actually is.

He teaches her of the failings of previous iterations of Jedi.

And while he doesn't spend that time promoting her to be a Jedi, he is basically telling her what the next future iteration of Jedi shouldn't be. (Learning from the previous generations mistakes).

Unfortunately since the last few movies treat Finn as ignorant, waffling and trying to be neutral.
The movie spends his time to teach him which side to be on.

I think we'll finally, at long last, know better than to put stock into any of them.

Most of the Finn rumors of TLJ turned out to be right without context

I'll disagree here, he has a role that is well defined, it just doesn't matter. When he's not providing First Order Intel Finn is a galactic space filler. If a hero needs a side kick, there's Finn. If we need someone to go on a mission, there's Finn. If we need someone to occupy a sub plot, there's Finn. Whatever space you need filled around the main story, there is Finn. He is Kordell Stewart of Star Wars[/QUOTE]

Really? I mean beyond going on a mission, I don't remember any of the other talking points having any credence, it could just be a miss on my part

    All of the following:

The bacta suit, going to a casino with Kelly Tran, fighting Phasma and knocking off her hand (cut), meeting FO stormtrooper Tom Hardy in the elevator (cut), meeting Benecio Del Toro, riding on Space Horse with Kelly Tran, being sent on mission to casino by Maz, not using a lightsaber in TLJ

The only one to show any wisdom was Han. Leia wasn't wise in this movie. Neither was Luke. Nothing like the OT.
And since they wanted to get rid of Maz, there is no dialogue worth remembering. That's the difference.

Ah ok. I think I was just looking at this differently. I guess before we had any trailer or BTS we didn't have confirmation of anything so the BioHexaCrypt, the Casino, Rose Tico, riding the Pikachu-Werewolves, those were all rumors at one point. But a lot of it was confirmed with trailer material, leaked photos, and BTS. They were no longer rumor even prior to the movie. But I'll agree that the Phasma arm cut, meeting Tom Hardy ST, those were things not ever confirmed and so they were rumor and didn't actually come to fruition. So I see what you are saying.

Actually those last two did come to fruition, since they're confirmed deleted scenes.

I'm just saying the rumors were real

Hmmmm, you pose an interesting philosophical question... if it wasn't in the movie but it was filmed, is it canon? I mean, alternate endings are filmed but since they're alternate can they really be canon? Phasma never lost her arm/hand in the movie. Can that really be canon?

Oh, I'm not talking about canonicity.

I'm just talking about how rumors (from back in 2016) of those scenes being FILMED were true. Even if they didn't appear in the big screen.

Not unless it's confirmed canon by an outside source.

Consider how Shaak Ti's death was treated in Legends, even though her death actually is portrayed in a deleted scene.

That's my one hope for Cad Bane, at least ;)

Not in a movie or something in the EU that contradicts a movie - not canon.

I don't think it would be considered canon until something else canon confirms it, for instance the novelization or comic adaptation. Someone else mentioned Shaak Ti who had two different deaths in RotS both of which were cut from the final film but on was eventually recanonized with Yoda's visions in the final episodes of The Clone Wars.

Just so I know, what does the TLJ novelization say about Finn? Anyone read it yet?

But Han used the lightsaber and he didn't become a Jedi.

At this point, people should realize it's not about "fairness" about who is force sensitive.

I think a big difference would be that Han didn't fight with the lightsaber. Also Han at least knew what it was and how it operated. The argument with Finn would be not only did he fight with the saber (and not hurt or kill himself) but he also didn't even know what it was and was still able to. In my opinion the lightsaber is only one of the arguments about why Finn could and should be force sensitive.
