Logically it should have worked given that a single shot or a few shots from single x-wings have blown up planet sized weapons before. If he had gotten to the cannon, his skimmer would have exploded and likely caused a chained reaction in tandem with the cannon thereby destroying it from the inside. This is how all the superweapons have been destroyed. The only difference is those were shots and not a ship exploding. It's not the ballistic energy that would do the trick but the thermal energy.

 

@Stormagadon beat me to it, but I am saying that the Skimmer would fly into the open end of the cannon, straight down the barrel. I think this would either destroy or disable the canon.

The craziest thing bout all this? Is that it really is a logic hole in the plot. When the 13 skimmers headed towards the Walker Convey they were shot down mercilessly. For some reason Finn is allowed to continue flying, and Rose is able to circle back around (and the Walker operators couldn't know that she was flying back to knock Finn out of the way). Neither of them take any heavy fire. In the grand scheme of things, this was not a very good vehicle for Rose to deliver her line to Finn. I know there are logic holes in all SW movies (and movies in general) but when you examine this, not only is the message she gives him questionable, the set up is even worse. He really shouldn't have made it that close to the cannon and she shouldn't have been able to circle around to knock him out just before he hit the cannon.

 

I really hope Finn doesn’t become force sensitive as he was just a common stormtrooper before hand. Yeah it’s possible but it would be terrible it would be way better if he wasn’t like he is now. Just keep Rey and Kylo with the force sensitivity or things could get messy and confusing real quick.

Finn should just stay as an ordinary hero same with Poe but I would also like to see Poe maybe a general in episode 9.

 

2 movies completed with no confirmation of FS, you will probably get your wish. He will probably go from being an ordinary Storm Trooper to an ordinary Resistance fighter; you'll enjoy his story.

 

Poe ain't force sensitive, but because of his skills, I wouldn't call him ordinary

 

I don't gather from his post that he'd like to see Finn extraordinary even without Force Usage

 

Just came to a realization: when Rose says, "That's how we'll win. Not fighting what we hate, saving what we love". That isn't Finn's lesson. That's Rose's lesson to Rose. Despite what he's been through Finn is never really depicted as hating the FO so much as trying to get away from it. It was Rose that had the most obvious reasons for hating the F.O. and it is SHE that saves what she loves (Finn).

 

Ordinary? Killed Captain Phasma and helped blow up Starkiller Base. That's pretty ordinary.

On an aside: why do you care if Finn is regarded as ordinary? Aren't all the SW characters ordinary?

 

It's kind of hilarious we're even having this conversation. Finn's story has been great so far. I can't wait to see what JJ does with the character in IX.

 

Yet another post that doesn't address the original post referring to Finn as ordinary... now THAT is hilarious.

 

Has anyone seen anything about what Rey tells Chewie in regards to Finn?

In the TFA, it's clear that Finn doesn't understand Chewie so he'd have to tell Finn through an interpreter.

This is probably one of those questions there aren't any answers to, but it's fun to think about.
