Sam was the real hero of lotr.

The reason a lot of women see her as wanting nothing to do with him is cause that was the original idea. They didn't function well at all. Harrison Ford getting injured allowed jj to reevaluate the relationship/ attraction. That's why it was glossed over yet very prevalent in the books.

Smart decision. If your romantic leads have no chemistry, you have no movie.
Make them non-romantic and it works so much better.

I hope he ends up like Sam, Sam was the most badass character in the LotR. Actually the Sam comparison does somewhat work, Rey is Frodo the character everyone in the story says is so strong and their mission is so important and Finn is Sam the one fighting to make sure things go right and helps the main one get to where they are going but doesn't get the recognition. Both Finn and Sam are also the ones who come off as more relatable and genuine (but that could also be because of Boyega and Sean Astin). As for the Jacket, I assume the jacket is like a Resistance uniform of sorts and that Finn would get a new one when he officially joins the ranks, as to not changing his design, we know he will be in a First Order uniform (if leaks are true) as well as wearing different clothes underneath the jacket, some sort of white/off-white tunic. Something about the new wardrobes has me interested in Rey and Finn, clothes have sometimes been used to symbolize the character and in Ep. 8 Finn switches the black underclothes for white where as Rey has been seen wearing darker (maybe black) clothes on Ach-To. I'm wondering if the clothes are supposed to show that Rey will turn to the dark side and Finn will discover his force abilities and go to the light. An example in previous movies of the clothes is in Jedi, Luke wears a black outfit for the movie and we see him do things like choke the Gamorrean guards and use his anger to defeat Vader. But when it comes to it and he choses not to and instead denounces his hatred (when he throws the saber away and says "I am a jedi...") his tunic unbuttons and the white inside is seen, showing his temptation to the dark but eventual choosing of the light side.

This is an interesting speculation but the only thing is, I think they are deliberately moving away from the binary of light and dark force users in this movie and the franchise in general, so it's possible theoretically that Rey could go to the First Order and Finn would go the Resistance, it would take some serious plot scrubbing to provide a believable motivation why Rey would go to the First Order, I don't think it exist in the given material other than seeing flashes of her anger in TFA.

I actually think there's a better chance that Finn rejoins the FO. At least we have the established history of it being a way of life he's known all his life and the plausibility of still have remaining friends within the FO and latent guilt over killing his former comrades. It would arguably fulfill the assertion by most of the actors that this movie is much darker (even before Carrie Fisher's death). So I have to assume that someone either dies off (perhaps Poe... which would hurt) or that someone who we want to cheer for, who we believe in, chooses an ill-begotten path. Only Rey, Finn, or Luke could do that at this point. Unlikely to be Luke as he's setting the stage for the post binary Force Usage Star Wars universe, so it really comes down to Rey or Finn tilting. Plot wise it would be more intriguing if it's Rey, logistically it's easier to make a case for Finn (based on the information we have right now)

I think people are forgetting Finn's motive for going to the Starkiller was for Rey. Not the Resistance per se. He still has not committed to the cause and now his motivation is gone. He will be asked to do a mission and have to face his fear

I don't think it is very likely that Finn would go back to the FO after destroying Starkiller and realizing everything he has discovered about them. I could see him doing it temporarily, and to the viewer it seems like he really did, bu then reveal it was part of some plan and it was just to get Finn on the inside. As for Rey, I feel like a dark side turn of some sort is the only really interesting thing they can do with her. Make it so that her intentions are noble also, like Anakin wanting to save Padme, so that we don't fully hat her but feel sorry for her. I didn't mean to say that it would be this binary light/dark thing and that Rey woul now have to be a red lightsaber, black-clad, evil person but rather that she was willing to use the dark side as a means to an end (like Kyle Katarn using force lightning) and that Finn would be a more traditional (Obi Wan type) light side user. In the end I would love for Finn, Rey, and Kylo to represent the three main element of the force. Rey being more dark side, Kylo (feeling sorrow for hat he did to his father and just regret in general) becoming more Bendu-esque and Finn being (as I said before) more traditional light side.

"She's playing hard to get" - Finn thought as he hugged her firmly.

I also don't they'll hook up: its antithetical to Kennedy's definition of a strong and INDEPENDENT female character. It would also nullify their friendship by exchanging it for a sexual one. I understand perfectly.

You know, I thought that's what it was at first! I thought that maybe Rey was playing hard to get, however most of my female friends concluded that was not the case. As a matter of fact, they all told me they considered Rey to be "rude" and "ungrateful" and that Finn should look elsewhere! She seemed to have a "negative" effect on them!

It is almost as people have different perceptions of the characters and their relationship. :p

Considering that both Finn and Rey are each others first healthy relationship (because FO and Jakku), I would like Finn to forge new ones and it seems Rose will be that relationship. It will be different and it will showcase not just Rose, but other parts of Finn. Having said that, I wouldn't mind Finn/Rey end game in IX if they want to go with the romance. I like them both and I like them together.

Boyega's Omaze video reminded me how charming he is, I am even more excited to see what's in store for Finn, especially because we have seen nothing from Dubrovnik and whatever planet that is and where Finn and Rose go.

Ungrateful in what way? So what was she supposed to do according to your female friends?

Doesn't this suggest that women in relationships can't be strong or independent? I doubt that is your point but it is suggested by the idea.

Where are these interviews talking about how iconic his jacket is, I've never seen any? The only time I've seen anyone mentioning his jacket is when it was being used to argue in favor of a Finn-Poe romantic relationship.

Yep because there's no such thing as middle-ground. How about a skilled soldier who gets personal wins, shows mental struggle about switching sides and doesn't provide too much cheap humour? Maybe force-sensetive?

The thing is, this guy is a soldier trained from birth. He shouldn't be the Everyman. He shouldn't panic on the battlefield and certainly shouldn't get whipped by a no-name Stormtrooper.

The strange thing about that scene is that it could be easily fixed by replacing TR with Phasma. Why make a main character lose to a Stormtrooper? Seriously? Did they really think that would make Finn popular?

"Oh look how awesome Finn is, he fought a Stormtrooper and nearly got killed....but he was brave! It takes guts to fight a Stormtrooper!!"

She just scrapes it in the beginning, nothing major. Minutes later she's flying like a pro, without a co-pilot - something which neither Han nor Lando did. Flight simulator? Seriously? That would enable her to fly one of the fastest ships without a co-pilot?

It's a standard Resistance jacket. They're bringing it back because they haven't bothered coming up with a new look for him. Because he isn't as popular as Rey and Kylo. Both of them have new looks.

But sure, they're doing it because it's iconic now. Finn is the new Han Solo after all. He's so iconic he got a one second coma shot in the Teaser and isn't there on the poster. LMAO.

Ah, the good old 'heart and soul' comment again. Gotta agree with you man. He's the co-lead which is why he got one second in the Teaser and isn't even on the poster.

Who watches Star Wars for boring stuff like the Force and lightsaber duels? Not me!

Maybe next they can make a character who's a janitor(HA! Finn came close), or a baker, or an office clerk. You know, just the stuff we watch Star Wars for.

Go ahead, give me a troll rating for telling the bitter truth.

So you agree your analysis of Finn is all muscle, he didn't kick enough ass so he sucks. I'll say it again. Wars not make one great. Sacrifice, heart, humor, Finn has it all day. He was performed incredibly and without Finn every single personbyou care about in the film would have died.

    No Finn No Win.

Yeah I went looking for the interviews about the jacket. They were over a year and a half ago. But I couldn't find it because of thousands of places to buy the Finn Jacket.

It is not a fair criticism that Finn could have exhibited sacrifice, heart, and humor and also shown combat competence more in league what the canon novelization suggests? I mean I think it's important that he exhibited these qualities but I don't think it's addressing the legitimate critique that these don't resolve the issues with his combat performance. Actually the opposite, continuing to high light it has the effect of illustrating that they shouldn't have been mutually exclusive. A skilled and professional combatant could still have wanted to have run away from the F.O. A skilled and professional combatant, could've come to the realization that he was in over his head in trying to challenge Kylo Ren to a LS duel and still been resolved to do it for the sake of his friend.

I think that's why the Rey comparisons keep happening so frequently. While I continue to point out (to anyone that will listen) that she wasn't particularly skilled in her LS usage either (especially before her meditation on the Froce), we can overlook that (for now) because she is smart and strong. And I have no problem with her being portrayed that way (Disney got that part right). But Finn comes off as inept but goofy and loveable. These aren't the attributes of a professional proficient soldier trained as such since child hood. If he had been described as a reject trooper just barely getting by before TFA, you could at least make a case for the comic relief. Here it is, quite simply, out of place. And pointing to his valor in the face of his ineptitude doesn't rectify any of it. Does that make sense? Do you see what I'm saying?

Maybe all of this is moot because I think ultimately Finn is going to end up a different kind of Force User and it would be entirely out of place to make a Force User goofy. I still think there are opportunities for levity by all the characters, but not goofiness. I doubt we'll see that in a movie that's been consistently described as dark.
