He also didn't kill her because she was somehow more strong with the force .

Ren was under Snoke's orders to bring Rey to him.

I think we can assume...alive. So Kylo Ren wasn't trying to kill her.

This seems to be a better solution, since JJ's quote doesn't necessarily refer to the actual events of TFA. However, he does use the present tense...although sometimes people are kind of careless about that kind of thing.

If he were following Snoke's orders only, he wouldn't have offered to teach her himself.
    --- Double Post Merged, Mar 15, 2016 ---
To me it seems that he is just trying to disarm her initially to get her to listen to him, and not really trying to kill her. It isn't until she whispers "the Force" and closes her eyes that the tide turns (and how it turns!).

He was trying to turn Rey to the dark side of the Force, had she accepted. It would've made things a lot easier for him and Snoke if she accepted. We don't know if he was trying to pull a Vader and trying to unseat Snoke at that point.

Pablo Hidalgo co-wrote the story for the padawan Ben VR experience here and some of the Lucasfilm Story Group were involved:

    http://www.latimes.com/entertainmen...star-wars-virtual-reality-20160315-story.html
    http://www.starwars.com/news/step-i...g-trials-on-tatooine-with-ilmxlabs-rob-bredow

I'm not 100% on it yet being canon (even with Lucasfilm Story Group involvement) or inspired by what is going to be the canon backstory.

Yeah, we don't know what he was doing at all...it's all speculation for everyone. We just have clues to put together as best we can...until Ep. VIII. ;) My take is that Kylo is not 100% on board with Snoke. Whether that means he wants Snoke's power for himself (I think this is less likely) or Kylo has been completely derailed by finding Rey and her special power...whatever the case, I think Kylo's differentiation between the "Dark Side" and the "Force" is significant. (Compare how the Emperor keeps repeating "the Dark Side" in RotJ when he wants Luke to turn.)

So is the user playing AS Kylo Ren? I was confused about that ... But it's interesting that the saber isn't Anakin Smywalker's considering he says, "THAT LIGHTSABER IS MINE !!!"

I was just going to post that! You beat me to it ;)

What I find terribly intriguing about this are several following things:
The POV is from Kylo Ren. interesting. You would think 1st that they want someone who is a hero to be the one people would identify with. Also, hm, Kylo Ren, but yielding a blue lightsaber? (Also why not Ben?)
Also you would think that if they wanted the POV to be Kylo Ren why not give him yield his red saber?
Then the question about the blue lightsaber. Is this Anakin's??? Would that alude that Kylo was right when he said "that lightsaber it belongs to me"?
Also why is it delivered to him by R2D2? Does it mean anything?

Or all of that is just random things piled together?
But why consult the story group???

Veeeeeery interesting, isn't it? I'm not going to try figuring it out yet until I get more info. My head still hurts from trying to predict Ep. VIII based on Ep. VII. :p

It looks a lot like this picture from TFA

    Captain-Phasma-1024x429.jpeg

Speaking about Ren’s dark suit, Abrams revealed it was the“most difficult to arrive at” and that the chrome stormtrooper suit was originally pitched for Ren. Abrams said:

“We went through, I don’t know how many hundreds and probably thousands of iterations and different versions. One of the great things about that was, over the course of that, the costume for Captain Phasma was designed, that was actually pitched as a Kylo Ren costume originally. For story reasons, it didn’t make sense and didn’t work. We suddenly realized, ‘oh my God, this is one of the greatest looking costumes I’ve ever seen.’ He, then she, became one of my favorite characters in the movie.”

I like how it has a motorized two-piece thing...much more streamlined than Vader's
    lol.

the insane deliberateness of Kylo Ren's absurdly well-coiffed hair is all the more obvious when you see the behind-the-scenes shots of Driver putting on the helmet. it's clear that he's got his hair all tucked up and trussed away with a band or something so it won't hang out the back or get all over the place.

i gotta say, no matter how ridiculous it is, i love that they made this as a choice without caring one whit whether it makes any sense whatsoever.
thank you, Abrams, for keeping the fantasy part of this alive and well.

hahaha ~ i had to explain to a friend of mine why this moment is so brilliant in its absurdity.
he was going on about how ridiculous it was and i was like: yes, that's the point.
it's a lala fantasy moment that actually captures the character quite brilliantly without him having to say a single word ~ and uniquely puts the viewer in the (rightly) uncomfortable position of having to reassess who they thought they were dealing with (just like Rey).

I've read a bunch of other reviews besides the LA Times (about the Trials On Tatooine) one, and they're not mentioning anything about Ben/Kylo Ren in their reviews. So either the LA Times was wrong/read too much into it, or the other reviews are withholding information.
