Usually, I'd agree. I didn't mind when Dodonna was recast, and I typically don't mind the multiple recastings in Game of Thrones.

But Carrie is the princess. In this case, I think that (as long as her family supports the idea) a CGI construction may be the best way to honor her legacy as Leia. Of course, if the family does not want this, I absolutely understand. I just don't think that people need to speak on the family's behalf right now. When they weigh in, I think and hope that most fans will understand and agree with whatever they say.

If Leia "goes into a coma" in 8 then I guess her role in 9 was going to be even less screen time then she had in 7.

Personally they can have Leia (assuming this was filmed) on a First Order med table with droids & Kylo around her. Then she "I tear as I write this" she flat lines.

Luke on his island suddenly stops & sheds a tear.

Medical droids try reviving but it's futile. A Droid says "she's gone". Kylo screams Noooooooooooooooo! Him & his saber go on a rampage! Killing human & droid personal!

Then Snoke in his lair grins most evil. "Now his training is complete!"

As the scene ends with Kylo storming down hallways killing everything a motherly voice is heard "Ben! Ben! Stop!"

If they do decide to recast Leia it needs to be someone incredibly good to do the role justice (and A-list), possibly Jodie Foster who was Lucas' second choice for the role in the first place.

Don't want to take anything away from Carrie, but the character is important and IF they don't have her written out it needs to be as good as it possibly can.

Oh yeah, I don't think she should be written out, at least not without a poignant, on-screen farewell- she's way too important fto just be killed or written off offscreen.

The fact that Mark and Carrie were in costumes on the same day - hopefully it means Luke and Leia would be together in at least one scene in Episode 8.

I was wondering the same thing. It was great seeing the gang all back in 7, but there was very little interaction between OT characters, other than some golden moments between Han and Chewie. Even 3P0 and R2 were separated for most of the film. Episode 8 is really the last time we can ever see the original incarnations of Han, Luke, or Leia interact with each other. That's monumental, and I hope the chance wasn't squandered.

Flashback (or forceback in Star Wars), according to the leaked shooting schedule of TFA this was shot for Rey's vision:

EXT DAY - 198 - ACADEMY • Leia and Han Solo hand over Young Kylo Ren to his Uncle for training

I actually wonder if we could still, in fact, get all of the original three heroes of the OT in a scene together in EpVIII by way of forceback... it was certainly something that had some vocal fans disappointed in EpVII...

I mean, I don't expect a Force ghost, especially with how convoluted TCW made the process.

They shouldn't and won't put Han in episode VIII or IX. His character got his sendoff and it was well done. Now the series can move on. The cast is Rey, Poe, Finn and Ben.

Just a thought, those black costumes Mark & Carrie were wearing may not be actual costumes. On some film shoots, actors wear an outer garment in breaks between shots which prevents the costume underneath getting dirty or spoiled by food and drink. The extra layer also stops unauthorised photographers from getting exclusive pictures of costumes which may become spoilers.

My hope is first to give this tragedy, family members and close friends of Carrie's room to process this and grieve.

I don't think CG is the answer to EP 9 at all. She is irreplaceable. Luckily filming has been done. Depending what the storyline is, they may need to reshoot or the may not. I think the biggest changes will be to EP9.

I'm wishing and praying that they did take advantage of the opportunity for a Luke and Leia reunion of some sort because that would be quite sad if they didn't.

If anything they need to end the Skywalker Saga on a positive note, if not bittersweet, at least end this trilogy well. I hope they don't cheapen it. I don't care if this sounds like fan service, but they need to keep Luke alive in 9 in some way considering the circumstances, even as a supportive character to honour what his sister and brotherinlaw would have wanted to happen to Ben.

Saw some articles saying that Star Wars: Episode 8 is the most anticipated movie of 2017.

What about a Force Ghost Leia or just unused Leia Dialogue for Episode IX? She tries to use the force to communicate with Luke or Rey.
