If MSW's ending is correct then it appears that these scenes take place where TFA leaves off or shortly thereafter. It will be interesting to see what type of weapon she fights with. If it is a staff-like Jedi weapon I think it will be cool. It will be something new and fresh that we have not seen before. Given her purported skill with a staff it would fit her character well

 

I'm thinking that throughout the movie, she knows she has an unusual power where she can do things but can't quite understand how or why. When she tricks the stormtroopers into letting her go, she thinks "How did I do that?" Then at the end of the movie when she meets Luke, he tells her "The Force is strong in my family... You have that power too."

So then in VIII, he guides her into its use and how to harness it.

 

This family twist already occured. It will be in my opinion a bad idea to get back on a family thing. Everybody is waiting for this. Vader being Luke's father was the most incredible twist ever. Rey being Luke's daughter would be a flop.

 

All that being said, for some reason whenever I see her costume, especially when she has her head gear on, I think the Mummy. Am I the only one?

And she fights with a staff.
Plagueis is in TFA and he is Rey

Flying around on a personal craft, scavenging, wearing headgear, etc.

I'm not talking about her actions, It is just the way that her costume looks. A mummy wrap look to it.

 

The more I know about the character the more I believe Rey is already going to be at least partly trained as a Jedi when TFA begins. Daisy Ridley has implied her character is a badass fighter specifically compared to other characters like Finn. That doesn't seem like someone who is a complete novice in the force. There is a description from some of TFA merchandise that describes her taking out a room full of stromtroopers and knights of ren single handedly although I think this was just someone at the company with an imagination trying to push a product not an actual part of the movie. Whatever the deal is with her staff at the very least it is very important to her which hints at it being more than just a metal stick. It looks strikingly lightsaber-ish at points (I even looked at stills of her running in the trailer and you can see what appears to be an opening at the end where the lightsaber would ignite.) She wears clothes that look like the homeless-desert-scavenger version of Jedi robes and I'm shocked nobody talks about this (it would be a weird coincidence judging by the amount a movie like this has to be micromanaged on every detail). It appears that Rey is an ex-pupil of some Jedi order based on her scavenger existence and this could be because the Jedi order was somehow destroyed and broken up or she left for some reason. It's speculated that she is on the run from Kylo Ren for most of the movie but what if she's ALREADY on the run or hiding from the knights of ren when the movie begins instead of someone who has grown up a scavenger. Finn's talking toy thing is quoted as saying 'I never should have rescued you' is he talking about her? The asumption is that Luke is training her on Skellig Michael at some point later in the story. This would be completing her training, she is after all about the age of an old padawan anyway but I believe she must be already familiar with being a Jedi. I don't think she's a prospect thats been found but rediscovered or brought back into the fold instead.

 

Maybe that the dress code of those on Jakku, she's just blending in, till Finn blows her cover.

 

Daisy Ridley is going to be a huge name after this movie I just know it! <3

 

Rey staff is probably electrostaff.

I disagree.
It would be the best thing ever. Something completely different.
Rey as Han and Leia daughter would be boring and predictable.

 

Is this place legit though? I know that there has been a lot of controversy with costume design & blurbs lately. Is this the same place?
