Great interview. With her and the other new stars, Star Wars is in good hands.

Did Lucas imply that J.J changed Rey from Solo to Skywalker?

 

People are assuming it, just because he said they thrown his ideas away, i don't buy that, is the EU all over again, when they made the EU not cannon people assumed that not a single bit of the ST plot would even remotely be similar to any EU story.

From what we heard his idea were the Solo twins be little kids like Anakin in TPM, now KK and JJ said no, they're not going be twins, they gonna be Older brother younger sister, and they will all be grown ups in the first minute of the movie, that would still be throw his ideas away from Lucas perspective.

 

Right, I think people are overthinking it when assuming everything GL's "ideas" come to down is who's-the-parents-of-who. Like the characters being Solos or Skywalkers alone is not a pitch - a pitch also includes what happens and how the characters are used, etc.

 

It could almost be anything that they might not have used that leads Lucas to say they threw out his ideas. I worked very closely with a professor in grad school, and he submitted his magnum opus for publication. It was accepted but the reviewers asked him to change a few things, which is not unusual. No one knows exactly what they asked.

He went out to the middle of Anza Borrego State Park (near San Diego) with a shotgun. I inherited all his books.

So creative types can be very touchy when it comes to their ideas, to say the least.

 

I think it's exactly this. Her building a scavenged flight simulator would serve a number of plot and character development points:

• Display her MacGuyver-like ingenuity, which can be called upon throughout the ST
• Show her desire to leave a life of scavenging to sell junk to gangsters for water
• Show her hero's desire for something more in life (less specific than the above, which is more situational)
• Allow her to conceivably pilot starships right from the outset
• Possibly show her kinship to some other talented pilot ... ?

 

So, his idea was for Kylo and Rey to be like YJK-era Jacen and Jaina?

 

Yeah, that was the rumor, but i guess we'll never know

So, going back to the famous staff, I know Daisy said it's just a staff (I'm not sure If I believe her or not, perhaps she doesn't even know), but anyway my question is why do you guys think it's shown so prominently on almost all her Jakku scenes we have seen so far and then she doesn't seem to have it with her anymore? At what point do you think Rey stops carrying that staff and why?

 

I think I may have posted this in some form before but I suspect she either left it on the Falcon before going into Maz's castle or it could be lost in battle on the freighter with the gangs shortly after they meet Han and Chewie if the MSW rumors are correct about that meeting.

 

Makes sense, since she will have a new weapon now, would be anti-climatic to her ditch her dear Staff just like that for a lightsaber, makes more emotional if she doesn't have her weapon anymore.

 

It would be really cool if/when Rey trains with Luke, they combine Anakin and Luke's lightsabers together to give her a double bladed lightsaber. One end blue, one end green, it would be so friggin awesome

 

I think Luke does train her (not in this film), there was a leaked photo of the Skelig shoot of a scene that has her training. I remember an interview where they showed pics of her on the Island.

well, don't worry it's more speculation, we don't actually know he trains her yet.. So we are OK!! ;-)
