Some of the stuff can be dismissed out of hand imo. The piloting skills, Luke and Anakin were "natural born" pilots as wells. Ditto on her mechanical abilities. Her athleticism and fighting abilities, she's been living along on a desert planet have to scavenge to survive/eat and defend herself from thugs. The movie also repeatedly gives Kylo "outs" for losing that fight, which I spotted right away but I guess other people missed. And I'm talking about throughout the entire film. The fight itself also wasn't nearly as one-sided as some make it out to be, she was running from him for most of it in fact.

My current theory is two-fold. Either interacting with the lightsaber jump-started her dormant Force abilities (artifacts storing power was a thing in the EU and she doesn't start really manifesting them until AFTER she touches it and has her vision), or Kylo trying to probe her mind caused something to happen, or a combination of the two. But we'll see if I end up being right on that.

I also think that her struggle will be simple, trying to balance the light and dark within herself. I think that she tapped into the Dark Side during the duel (the look on her face at the end was one of anger and passion, at least it looked that way to me). And if she leans certain painful details about her background, it could very well push her towards the darkness. If fact, I think that the whole ST will explore that idea. That you cannot destroy either the Dark or the Light, even within yourself. It's all about balancing the two (perhaps that's why Luke wen on his "quest" to learn more about the Force in this regard).

I caught that to, it was creepy. That whole sequence was almost like a horror movie actually. I also caught Yoda and Obi Wan's voices in her visions as well, including Obi Wan saying her name. That was interesting to me.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: athletic, slicked back hair... Rey is the daughter of Sporty Spice.

I am sure this has been discussed here before, but I wanted to check this just in case. In the flashback scene when Rey is being left to Unkar we'll see a ship leaving. To me it looks like a FO ship. Has anyone else noted this? It is interesting, and COULD imply that Rey is related to First Orde people OR someone from the First Order (Kylo?) left her there....?

Why do you say is a first order ship? felt like an ordinary civilian ship to me, not identifiable with any faction

It's boxy and silver like those FO troop transporters, but it could be anything, I suppose.

The shape looks similar to transport ships that the FO uses in the opening scene, as well as when they attack Takonada. I am no expert with the ships but it looked similar. That is why I asked.

I think i found a new important detail.
After Rey gets the quarter ration of Unkar plutt there is a scene with setting Sun, bicolor white andred.
Everyone knows the scene with Luke on Tatooine with the 2 suns. ;)

Has anyone here read the novelization? I've just started to read it and maybe it's too soon to say, but Rey seems like a slightly different character there: a little bit more hardened and confrontational, slightly less compassionate. For example, while watching the movie I got the impression Rey saved BB-8 from Teedo and didn't sell him to Unkar Plutt because she respected BB-8 as an individual and respected his freedom and agency; she felt for the droid and wanted to help him. On the other hand, while reading the book it seems to me that saving BB-8 was more about curiosity; she turns off BB-8 to discuss the price with Unkar because BB-8 was complaining, it's only after Unkar agrees to buy the droid for 100 portions that she gets suspicious that there is something about the droid.

I was just wondering if someone else read the book and if they felt the same. Personally I prefer the version we got in the movie, though I can see how the version from the book makes sense based on the life she's forced to live.

I actually really love the idea that she is Obi-Wan's granddaughter after watching this video. There are a lot of parallels and seemingly random coincidences:

    - Solitary existences on desert planets
    - Adept at mind tricks
    - Also shown scaling interiors of Imperial/First Order super weapons
    - Similar clothes
    - Obi-Wan appearing in her vision (not Anakin), a somewhat random choice for a Skywalker
    - British accents

I also love the idea of Rey, Kenobi's granddaughter, being the main antagonist of Ben Solo, Kenobi's namesake.

The only thing that bothers me about it is that there was never any indication Obi-Wan was anything but an upstanding member of the Jedi Order. Unless they do something where Obi-Wan had an affair with a woman but forsook both her and their child in favor of the Jedi's no-attachment rule (requiring a lot of exposition) it wouldn't make sense.

The OT had two Skywalkers (I know there where three but we didn't find out until the third movie).

    OT
1.The Hero Skywalker = Luke whom get's a droid and is sent on a mission.
2.The Villain Skywalker = Anakin/Vader whom wants the death star plans back.

    ST
1.The Hero Skywalker = Rey whom get's a droid and is sent on a mission.
2.The Villain Skywalker = Ben Solo/Kylo Ren whom wants plans to Luke.

    PT
Really only has one Skywalker whom is both the Hero and Villain Skywalker. = Anakin Skywalker.

-Kennedy has said the episode saga is about the SKYWALKERS.

    -John Williams music for Rey

-We know that Rey isn't Han and Leia's child because they don't even mention her as being there own, only Kylo Ren/Ben Solo is mentioned. Luke has an emotional moment when he sees Rey.

-Rey's Forceback scene part of it is shown in a Bespin corridor similar to this picture from ESB.
    esb_bespincorridor.jpg

-At the end of the Forceback a voice says "These are your first steps"

-Other voices Darth Vader's breathing, Luke screaming no, Yoda says something, Obi-wan says Rey's name.

Already tired and deeply bored of the "who is Rey?" mystery thing. I went to watch a new episode of Star Wars, not another episode of 'Lost', which was also directed by JJ and has an island it it... ;)

Seeing Rey is strong with the force mean's she is an offspring from one or two jedi parents. Who was the last jedi? = Luke

If Rey is Leia and Han's daughter then why don't they know her?

You know who else left out the lineage stuff in his first Star Wars movie? Lucas. But if JJ does it it is a different kind of thing..

Why? Was Obi-Wan an offspring of Jedi parents? Was yoda? Was anybody except Luke?

I don't mind Rey being a Skywalker, I actually want her to be one, but I don't see how she has to be Luke's kid to be strong with the force.

I was not surprised at all about not finding out who Rey's parents were. I was expecting it. I didn't really think we were going to find out in this movie.

In Before the Awakening , It is mentioned that Rey spent her free time on Jakku practicing on flight simulators and learning alien languages and droidspeak. That explains some of her skills in the movie.

On the Kylo x Rey fight, I agree with you. Rey was pretty clumsy with the saber and was basically running from Kylo until that pivotal moment where she let the force in.
