For me the major problem with Rey being a Solo is the way she is left on Jakku. When Yoda and Obi-Wan decided to split Luke and Leia they'd put them in a structured family. I wouldn't expect less from Leia or Luke. I can't imagine a scenario where Leia is somehow forced to hide her in that situation. If she were under the close protection of Lor San Tekka, it would make more sense. But the way it is put imagine Lor San Tekka reporting to Leia: "Your daughter is a scavenger, barely works to make the daily portion. She lives inside a wreckage AT-TT and if she gets sick and can't work probably will die."

If she is a Skywalker or Solo it will be hard to explain the circumstances that she was left on Jakku (I have my own theory above). Anyway, I don't see Luke or Leia knowing that she was on Jakku, living in that circumstances.

I agree with this... the only reason I lean Skywalker is because we don't know who the mother is and her relationship to Luke. We didn't learn much about Luke's activity over the last 30 years other than 10 years ago or so Kylo betrayed the Jedi. If Rey is a Solo it must be because she's presumed dead.

I'm under the impression that Han, Leia, and Luke all know who Rey really is or they know more about her than they are letting on. The script apparently makes it very clear that Luke recognizes Rey in some regard when they meet at the end. The look he gives her is full of emotion ranging from sorrow to happiness. The way Han treats Rey is very similar to the way he treats Luke in A New Hope especially when offering her a job as a second mate for the Falcon. He also seems somewhat guilty or sorrowful when he looks at her when they fly over Takodana. Leia is also very kind and motherly toward Rey by hugging and consoling her after Han's death. Finally Leia sends Rey, a person she seemingly just met to find her brother Luke who she has been searching for over many years. Honestly, Han and Leia could just be very kind people in general, who act this way towards everyone they meet. I think they act this way to Rey because they know her and are treating her as a member of their family.

I do agree. That's the big issue for her being Luke's or Leia's. Unless the clan/family she was left with was destroyed by the Knight of Ren? They could have found her a nice home and family, but things eventually went bad.

Lor San Tekka supposedly retired on Jakku with the Church of the Force villagers. If he ever watched over her, it was only recently.

However they spin it, they did make a point to show a very strong connection between Rey and Han. They finished each other's sentences for crying out loud. Hell, she's now flying the Falcon with Chewie. Would they ever consider Chewie with a non-Solo?

While I say this with my own reserved notion that there will be some more complexity to Rey down the road... my family and I have seen this film twice now, and my 6yr old's opinion (part of Disney's target demo mind you) is the loudest among us. "Dad, she's Luke's daughter... duh. Too obvious"

So has anyone figured out how Rey gets the gun Han gave her back? She's got it at the end, but we never see her go get it. Right?

Interesting haha. I hadn't noticed that until you pointed it out, but great point. Could also just be a blaster of the same model. Perhaps she gained an affinity for that style because that's what her buddy (*cough cough - UNCLE - cough*) gave her, and will be using that style of blaster from her on out, along with her....... DOUBLE BLADED LIGHTSABER!!!! Dun DUn Dunnnnnn

you're right... I never thought of it D:
I think she lost that in the forest near Maz's castle when Kylo took her, it would have been pretty dumb for him to take the gun too xD
maybe Finn and Han took it from the forest near Maz's castle? maybe BB8 showed them where it was?

There may not be a reveal in VIII, she is just too important.

    http://collider.com/star-wars-9-rey-parents-colin-trevorrow/

“I’ve seen all of the theories… What I do know is that we’re going to make sure that that answer is deeply and profoundly satisfying, because Rey is a character that is important in this universe, not just in the context of The Force Awakens but in the entire galaxy, and she deserves it. So we’ll make sure that that answer is something that feels like it was—it’s something that happened a long time ago [in a galaxy] far, far away, we’re just telling you what happened.”

I mean I love Rey, she's great. But the mystery of her origins isn't THAT compelling. I was fine with leaving it up in the air for TFA (I did wonder if that was one of the changes that JJ made at Rian's request)? But freaking 2019, really. I seriously doubt that the answer will be so shocking and super-brilliant that it'd justify dragging this out for like 6 years

I'm sure someone probably covered what I'm about to post, but I'm still gonna post my opinion....just in case. So, I think she is Luke's daughter. With that being said, I know that there is a chance that she is a solo. Personally, I can't wrap my mind around Han and Leia just giving her up though. Especially when they won't give up on their son who's evil. I think that if Luke is her father, she definitely didn't know that he was in fact Luke Skywalker. I'm sure he went by a different name and didn't tell her anything about the force and being a jedi just to protect her. Another theory of mine is that her name is not Rey. I believe that she was given that name after she was left on Jakku. The reason I think this is because when she meets Han, he doesn't seem to know who she is, even after she tells him her name. I feel that he learns about it just from getting to know her throughout the movie, especially aboard the Millennium Falcon.

Just a tid bit: I also think its coincidental that the X-wing helmet Rey wears is Dosmit Raeh's. Maybe that's just me reading way to into it though.

I actually read an article about how it's possible it can be Luke's daughter but Obi-Wan's granddaughter. I'll post it so you all can read it, but when reading it, like reading most fan theories, I thought it was kind of far fetched. After thinking about it though, it could be possible. We all clearly know that these movies aren't at all based on the books, so it can be possible for Johnson to make that happen. I think it would be pretty cool.

Anyway, so that's my theory on Rey. Thanks for letting me share!

Here's the link to the Kenobi/Skywalker relation.

Its curious, especially with the new comments from Trevorrow that it might be some epic huge reveal in IX.

however, I read another quote that him and Rian have been working close together, so maybe they will be more interconnected Than we anticipate.

I'll be honest, I would want to be the one directing IX.

I'm kind of hoping that Trevorrow simply means that he's aware of what her true origins are already. Or that the big reveal itself will happen in Episode VIII, but perhaps will leave a few plot strands left over for Episode IX.

Ridley claimed in a pre-TFA final cut interview that she knows who Rey's parents are.

Just to play devils advocate. Maybe she does know, but maybe they are keeping it a secret from everyone else. Not the first time they have told something like that and then not told the general audience.

Yep... if they were holding onto this until IX I doubt she would have briefed on this already.

Also, I thought Rian Johnson was writing XIII and IX?

I noticed that again in my last viewing. (Both finishing their sentences, etc). Also Rey saving Finn from the Rathtar's tentacle seemed a lot like Han saving Lando from the Sarlacc. And she was flying the MF naturally (though she called it "garbage"). For the ones who say that she did like Luke ("piece of junk") just remember Leia was sort of sarcastic the first time she saw the MF at the Death Star.

And regarding her piloting skills, it could be like Luke but also like Han. And as the Shattered Empire comic just kindly informed us, Princess Leia also had her piloting skills (when flying at Naboo with Poe's mother). But yeah, that would be the big issue: how she ended up in Jakku like a galaxy Harry Potter? (though at least Harry had his horrid relatives looking out for him lol).

Rian Johnson and Colin Trevorrow are completely invested in doing the best work of their lives. This is an honor to them, one they seem to both feel deeply about. I think they have more respect for what Lucas has done than Lacas has of his own creations. We are in good hands folks.
