Does the top of her staff look like a lightsaber?
I would think she would have some kind of weapon to protect herself.
But maybe she kicks ass with just a staff.

 

It's one way for her to be a fighter and have some skill before she wields the lightsaber.

Okay, so what do we make of Kira vs Rey? Released it was her name is Rey. Now at Celebration there is a prop titled Kira's bumper car (Bumper car? sounds like a mess up because it's a speeder) And there's another prop titled Rey Concept art. Was the Kira on the bumper car a mess up or a leak?

This may have already been discussed, but I think I know why Kira Rey might have been raised away from Luke and Leia.

My theory is that for someone to really learn to use the Force, they have to be around another Force user, like how Luke met Obi-Wan.

I also think, ever since the destruction of the Academy that MSW talked about, Kylo Ren and/or Uber has been going around killing a Force user each time they awaken, meaning begin to use the Force. Basically, nipping them in the bud.

I think Kira Rey is thus placed far away from any other Jedi so that she doesn't awaken. But somehow she and Finn awaken each other. She couldn't live with Leia for a similar reason--she would have awakened being so close to her mother.

Just a thought!

 

Both Rey and Kylo Ren are scavengers, looking for and acquiring items of a by-gone era.

 

Just a theory....from a newbie...

Rey and Poe are siblings...Luke's kids. Good...

Christie and Driver are siblings. Han and Leias kids... Dark side...

The later two can be ages apart if he is the Sith and she is the Silver Trooper or whatever they are calling it.

I'm inclined to think Poe is Hans kid, cocky fighter pilot...

I think Boyega steals Luke's hand and saber from where ever and gets chased and crashes in the opening scene. Maybe a spy? Maybe Lando's kid. Some maintenance guy found it years ago and he kept it.

This thing opens up with a hand on a light saber flying through the sky I'm walking. Too phony baloney.

1-She's not a Solo. Perhaps the "force has awoken" in people not of the Skywalker line but 1 or 2 will get adopted.

2-She's not a Solo. But the grandaughter of Sheeve Palpatine and Luke has a crazy plan that perhaps the Resistence led by her sister should make peace with the Empire by backing the heir to Palpatine's dynasty rather than the crazy fanatics of the 1st Order.

3-There has been a hit on her since she was young. An aging ally of the Solo's took her into hiding on the desert planet Jakur.

4-She got sick of the life of General Solo and Political Leader Leia and the security protection, the over protection of mom and dad and longed for adventure and excitement. A couple years back she shook her own security detail and struck out into the galaxy to have exciting space faring adventures like the stories she heard of her father before he back "a nice man" settled down and rose to the mantle of "general Solo." She found the life of bouncing around from star port to star port to be tougher than expected and had to take to junking for survival.

 

I suspect Rey may not know her true identity right away. She is going to be a reluctant hero. By the end of the movie she likely knows her true identity and due to circumstances in the movie accepts her destiny

 

I also think it's Leia reaching out for Boyega in the new clip. He knows who she is and is surprised to see her.

Also having watched the clip on the Home Theater to blow it up if that's Luke with R2 the hand looks funny because the glove is burned off. Maybe he pulled R2 out of the fire. At first I thought it was a woman's hand because the nails look sharp but it's the burned off glove that makes it look funny.

Nice details on the shoots though. Blowing sand, the full scale sets are apparent and fantastic. Some of the troopers look a little too CG, almost a little unfinished and dull looking. Akin to dropping a 480p CG file into a 4K background.

One last thought...Han crashed that Imperial Cruiser at the beginning of the film....

 

DarthSimon over at the Jedi Council Forums (Who I believe uncovered the 'Kira' name first?) said that the speeder at celebration is just a fanmade prop, not the real deal. I already mentioned this in the 'Twitter/Internet Buzz' thread, but I thought I'd do so here.

 

If Rey is captured and held prisoner in the evil castle by Kylo, what if after she's brought from her cell he has her sit down for a meal ("You have to keep up your strength") while he tells her about his plans but is soon put off her food??
