I know. But the snow suggests it is not in the beginning of the film. The staff however looks to be with her on Jakku.

You are right that she might be repulsed by a specific sabre. I am just not seeing the staff as a sabre. I might be wrong.

 

I don't think the staff is a lightsaber. I think her saber is attached to it and it is being used to disguise it.

 

I'm with you on this... I think that Luke probably started a new Jedi academy or at the minimum started training the Solo kids and Leia in the ways of the force. Something happened and they dispersed by choice or by necessity. Rey may avoid using her saber because it would immediately bring attention to her. Luke probably has his green lightsaber... so her aversion to Anakin/Luke's may be due to its history... even touching it may cause her to have strong emotions or force visions.

I think it would be a fitting ending if Luke has a padawan again (Finn) and a student has returned to him (Rey) and they end with something like "You have much to learn, let's get started."

 

I think it's just attached to the staff rather than hanging from a belt. Hidden in plain sight. Also after 50-60 years, not a lot of people would have ever seen a lightsaber. It would be safe to have it on the staff.

 

I still think she learned the trick from Uncle Luke like he did when he stored his lightsaber inside Artoo I think it might just be a bigger staff she stole from a tuskan chief.

 

I'd be kind of annoyed if it ends up being NOT a saber, don't like being messed with.

 

I think Rey used the sabre once, or someone else used it to kill people she knew. But then once she accepts her destiny iy becomes a part of her and the force becomes strong in her.

 

Well I think its a stretch for it to be a sabre so I am not sure we are being messed with.

 

I also think this movie will end with a celebration. I say that because Ep I and Ep IV both ended on a high note after a battle. I also think a major player will die as in Ep I (Qui Gon) and Ep IV (Ben).

 

Not a stretch at all... it looks almost EXACTLY like Maul's or Mace's hilt.

 

Similar yes but also looks like a staff. It looks like it is not made of the shiny metals you see light sabres made of. It looks like many staves or maces a lot of background characters carry. Look you might be right but there are plenty of people who don't think that has to be a sabre.

 

If you are trying to hide it you wouldn't want it to be nice and shiny. You would want it too look like its part of the staff. I have seen no staff that looks like a saber. I know that has been said a lot but no prof has been produced.

 

I guess people see what they want or expect cause I am not seeing it. As for it looking like nothing else it looks a lot like tusken raider gaffi sticks, it looks like Leias Boussh weapon (I know it is missing a little bit on the end), and there are lots of dull metal rods, maces and staves carried around the cantina scene and Jabba's palace.

 

Seriously? Don't see it? It's clearly not just a scrap of metal on the end of a staff.

 

And nothing like a Tusken's staff.

 

I have said from the beginning I could be wrong. I have offered several suggestions of why I don't think its a sabre. They are not convincing for you cool. Its speculation. It really is not that big a deal you might be right.

 

From my perspective I can see it being a lightsaber, the shape fits etc... but my gut says that it isn't. She will use Luke and Anakin's old lightsaber, again just my gut. Finn will end up with his own lightsaber... maybe Luke's green one.

 

They can 3-D print almost anything, laser mill metal... build almost anything they need from scratch. The days of digging around for old gun parts is kind of over.It's highly unlikely they were like: "Hey! We need a staff for Rey! Go put something together for us. Use that old Darth Maul hilt if you have to."

They probably had the designers make 4 or 5 different staffs for JJ to choose from. On top of that, they probably had 5 or 6 identical ones to use while filming. Light ones for Daisy to run with, probably made from plastic and foam. Stunt ones to use, probably heavier but constructed to not actually hurt anyone and then they needed a Hero staff made for close ups and detail if they show her hands holding it. She has the staff in almost every promo shot and has it in both trailers.

It's significant. Does she do more than beat people with it? We'll see.
