hey guys i don't know if anyone thought that rey's staff could actually be used as a tool like an electrical prod for that big pig creature? in the artwork photos we see someone on the pig with a staff of some sort.

 

It occurs to me that I have no idea why anyone on the Star Wars universe uses a staff. They were very common around Jabba's palace but they didn't seem to do anything more than a big stick would do. In a place where there are laser guns and lightsabers why would anyone have a fancy stick for a weapon?

 

Absolutely. The rumored plot also supposedly has Han Solo finding out Kylo Ren is his son on Maz Kanata's pub. If the whole Kira Rey/Kylo Ren thing is true, that's obviously the names their parents gave them, so where's the surprise? Either there's something missing, or one rumor (Han doesn't know or Kira/Kylo) is false.

 

well thats the thing, i think that electrical pro could be used on the pig so rey could manage to transport the spaceship junk etc. not as a weapon.
or
its not a prod and han solo needed to fix his ship and needed to buy a spare part and went to the junk dealer market and that "staff" is just an engine part.

Well sure, those staffs are electrified, but I didn't see any charged tips from Jabba's goons while the almost-Jedi was hacking them to pieces.

 

In the one scene from the trailer she's carrying it with her while she runs, which indicates to me that it's important to her for some reason. I guess we'll find out what it does in December. Then we will ~FINALLY~ be able to put an end to the mystery of the staff.

 

Sure based on the assumption she doesnt know who her family it. But what if she knows who Luke is? It would explain a few things.

 

Correct. So, what you're saying is Rey's staff must follow suit with weequay staffs, then. Right?

 

Nope. I'm just saying I don't why anyone in the Star Wars Universe would use an non-electric staff as a weapon.

I don't really have an opinion about Rey's staff. Maybe it is electrified (though it doesn't look like it). Maybe it's not for combat (perhaps she pole vaults in her free time). I mean, it's clearly important to her - she takes the time to tie it down on her speeder, and it's the only thing she brings with her when she runs to escape the tie fighters. I'm curious to know the answer.

 

I believe she knows who Luke is because she was a padawan and perhaps Luke's jedi academy is attacked and only Rey and Ren survive but Rey Luke Leia and Han all think Ren is dead, why Ren turns to the dark side feeling abandoned then goes on a hunt for artifacts to learn about his grandfather (Artifacts 1.Helmet 2.Lightsaber etc). Luke goes into exile, Rey goes to Jakku and left with the Falcon, Han and Chewie go off hiding, Leia goes off to command the Resistance.

Evidence of some kind of flash back of jedi academy attack. 1.Actors where casted as extra padawans 2.Teaser 2 scene with Luke touching R2 Luke is in morning of the deaths as the fire indicts perhaps burning the padawans a jedi's death funeral

I was thinking, could "Rey" be an adoptive name akin to Obi-Wan using the name "Ben" in order to prevent his true identity being discovered? So, like it was Obi-Wan "Ben" Kenobi, for Rey it could be Kira "Rey" Solo?

 

Ren is older than her, so it's also plausible that she might not have been old enough to start training at the time of the academy attack - then afterward Han and Leia decided to hide her. I'm also thinking that maybe Han decided to stay in the general area, just in case she needed him.

If you really dig into the logic of it, there are problems - like is leaving the girl alone in the middle of a desert planet populated by scavengers and thieves really the best way to protect her? But none of those issues are as troubling as all the coincidences that the plot would have to rely on if she didn't know who her family was.

 

That's where the Vicar comes in, Han and Leia ask him to watch over her. But then how do they know the Vicar? Seeing rumors of the Vicar one of them is that he is a former commander of one of the crashed Star Destroyers. And another rumor that he is an elder Boba Fett which would make more sense if they know him.

 

I don't know why either, but, they do. Gaffi sticks, ewok weapons.. Everything goes in Star Wars. That's whats so fun about this universe: it's sheer flexibility. I mean, just look at this crazy fight:

Blasters, non-electric staffs, electric staffs, lightsabers..
Do note, however, that Hondo does not use those RotJ staffs.

 

Perhaps Rey's staff is a combine of Blaster and Electro. Like Ezra's lightsaber is also a blaster.

 

I apologize to anyone bored by this off-topic tangent I seem to have caused - I promise this will be my last post on the subject.

I see electrified staffs used in the prequels and Clone Wars cartoon as an invention of necessity. There are only so many Sith Lords and Dark Force Users out there, and they needed to find something else for the Jedi to use their lightsabers against in combat. Frankly it always bothered me - the idea that a non-force-user could last more than a few seconds in a fight against a fully trained Jedi using a big clunky staff with electrified tips. If Obi-Wan could kill (okay cut in half) a Sith Lord with similarly structured weapon, Hondo shouldn't be able to last 10 seconds against Anakin with that staff.

(Now my attempt to bring this back on point)

Perhaps what we'll get from Rey is demonstration of how effective even a simple staff can be in the hands of a person with force powers.

 

I have been thinking along those lines as well.. though I have yet to identify a trigger mechanism for the blaster aspect. The only time we've seen this thing on film has been in situations where it could not be utilized, so, we've only seen the PFX aspect of this weapon, that is for certain.
